I've been dealing with weight and food issues for the majority of my life... about 28 years actually. I'm 36 and have spent 2 years considering surgery and now what I have made a decision I wish I had done it those 2 years ago.

I still have doubts and concerns. Am I making the right decision? What happens to my need/desire to over eat? Will my love of fine wine turn into a need for a drink once the option to eat is gone? How is this going to change my relationship? I'm in a great one and see it going all the way but at this time he is completely against the surgery. The thought of it upsets hime greatly. He says that I am perfect a beautiful just as I am, that surgery is just another tool for weight loss like diet and exercise and if the latter 2 don't work how is this going to. Let's try being more active and eating better. I try to explain that I can do that for a week or a month or 6 months, but 28 years of experience tells me its not the losing that is especially hard but the keeping off. Will he come around? Will he be able to support me?

Regardless of said questions and concerns, I feel good about my decision and am excited about the surgery though I know it will not be easy physically, mentally, or emotionally. I'm not afraid of the work required. I'm excited to have a place like this for questions and support.
