  1. I just read this! I am so sorry Brandy. How scary! I read that he's doing better now? Is that still true? I hope he continues to a full recovery. Did he have a genetic link to heart disease? Poor guy! Being so healthy and fit and having an MI. At least when we are out of shape, we can see how something like that can happen, but when someone is taking the time to care for their health... I think they deserve to remain healthy.
  2. Munchkin, Did you check with your medical insurance? I have TMJ and had to get a night guard. My medical insurance paid for it. I posted this very long response to your question about going to days! I worked nights for over 10 years and am now on days. I loved nights and I loved the money, but when I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes and I saw the rates of Breast Cancer for night shift nurses, I decided I better get on days. I still hate having less money and waking up so darn early and having to work with so much management hanging around, BUT I am very thankful for the "human-like" energy and feeling I have now. I think I actually look more rested now that I'm on days. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the 86.6 lbs I lost! Right? I think you made the best decision for you and that is what is important. I remained on nights because for 10 years as I was raising my small child, it was perfect for me. I could take her to school at 850am and pick her up at 1550. AND sleep during her school time.... we all do what we have to do!
  3. Yup, I had that same thing. It was actually the size of a extra large egg and Dr. K offered to drain it. BUT I declined -- since he said it would be absorbed eventually by my body. AND I know that draining it could cause an infection since I was entering the site. He agreed and we left it alone. I'd say it is about 90% resolved now 5.5 months later.
  4. Yes, you bought the right one. I eat the McCann's regular. I'll go to King Soopers and see if I can find it. thanks! I have WLS for Dummies. It has some lap band stuff in it. But Dr. K never recommended any specific book to me.
  5. Lap Band Summer Family BBQ :scared2: Saturday Aug 2, 2008 Chatfield Reservoir 11am - 3pm Heronry Overlook Picnic Area RSVP by Friday July 25 to Natalie with # of guests (immediate family only) @ ncardenas@lapbandrockies.com There is a $7.00 cost per vehicle for a park pass. Hope to see all you Skinny Minnies there! Love, dee~:seeya:
  6. Hey Girl! Isopure is a clear protein drink you can get at GNC. I drank it on my first day home from the hospital, poured it over crushed ice with a little cranjuice splenda in it. I only like a few of the flavors. Munchkin has an entire case! Some don't like them. I prefered them to the thick ones! To get a ticker, go to Tickerfactory - build your ticker and then come back here and go to your edit signature option - copy and paste the actual ticker, not the code to the signature box. It should work! Good Luck!
  7. Well, I saw your ticker moving in the right direction! You know Shelbi was punished severly last time she was so naughty on the bench. She spent a long time on the naughty chair thinking about her bad behavior.
  8. Good Morning Mini Girlie Poo! How's our newest Bandito doing? Doesn't the Loser's Bench have a nice comfy feel to it!?
  9. Don't forget our next Red Robin Meeting is: July 16th @ 7pm Red Robin @ Arapahoe and I-25 I hope everyone in the area can join us!
  10. I'm glad you're feeling better! Good! I know that Mayo doesn't have carbs and most blue cheese dressings do not. Some ranch doesn't also. Just check the label. Ketchup has lots of carbs, but mustard doesn't. I prefer Miracle Whip, but changed to Mayo during that time.
  11. Mal! Did you say you got some instant steel cut oats? I have been busy lately and don't want to end up not eating my oats if I haven't cooked it the night before. Can you tell me the brand of your instant steel cuts? Thanks!!!
  12. Congrats on that weight loss! I lost 17 the first time and 13 the second... unfortunately I had already gained the 17 back plus more before I lost the 13! It was a vicious cycle back in the pre-bandito life of mine!
  13. Great Post Green! Popcorn is 100% carbs... so I'd say don't eat it during your preop diet. I have eaten popcorn several times since being banded. I get the Smart Pop and have the single serving as a snack. I call it a slider food for me. It's like chips. I eat one kernel at a time and chew it at least 30 times. It goes down, probably too well for me. I also do no gum - for fear of swallowing it and it gives me gas! I also do no straws due to the gas, but Dr. K didn't tell me not to, I read it somewhere else. I never miss my Diet Pepsi until my daughter is drinking it and I smell it! I do drink Joint Juice that is has a little fizz, but I open it in the morning and pour it over ice and then don't drink it until after dinner. It's totally flat by then and diluted by the melted ice. Have a good day My Green Sister!
  14. Yup! You got it Girlfriend! That salad of yours looked so good! I hate to get salads out when I'm by myself or the only one eating it because I don't eat much of it and it isn't good the next day, BUT they are great to share with my daughter! I had to do the pre-op diet twice! The first time was over Thanksgiving. I was at work -- happy to be there and my friend brought me a turkey leg her husband had smoked! That was my lunch the next day and it was so good! I never felt hungry -- I felt exhausted like I wanted to sleep constantly for about 5 days, but then I was okay. The second time I did the diet (both times for 14 days each) it was two weeks after Christmas. Hmmm, know you have me thinking about that salad of yours!
  15. Pardon me, but why didn't you have a big salad? You can have all the veggies you want except for the potatoes! Anyone else, please correct me if I'm wrong. But I lived on huge salads with every veggie available! Squash, tomatoes, cheese, tuna, sunflower seeds, onions, celery, bell peppers... it's all good. You don't have to sacrifice the veggies. Paula told me I could have all the veggies I wanted except for the Potatoes. And believe me Lotza, it is totally worth it! But you have to find the stuff you can eat and eat those things. Don't be hungry, don't allow yourself to sacrifice. The pre-op is not a difficult diet to follow. Truly. You can do this! AND after the post-op period it gets much easier!
  16. Hi Fatwidow! What time is your surgery? I'll need to give you my name and phone number for you to list it on the pre-op form. Also I'll need your real name so I won't look like a freak asking if I can pick up, "Fatwidow" About being hungry. There is no limit to what you can eat now, just the NO carbs rule. Drinking the Atkins shake is not going to keep you satiated. After banding it will before, it won't. I'd focus on eating solid proteins and veggies rather than drinking the shakes. That's just my opinion... plus there will be plenty of time to drink protein shakes after your surgery. Enjoy those good salads, a nice steak or some of those crunchy pork rinds. I actually loved being able to eat any kind of omelet I wanted! After your banded and through the post-op diet, you can return to your good carbs. I'm not sure about the plane regulations and checking liquids, but maybe you can buy some things here. Like gatorade, Isopure clear protein drinks or the Special k drinks. There is a Super Target, Walmart and Walgreens not far from the hospital. Also there is a Target pretty close to your hotel. Good Luck! Your day is almost here! AND we are scooting over on the bench to make room for all the new Banditos! BTW, are you renting a car? AND we are meeting at the Red Robin on the 16th. It's actually also very close to your hotel! See you soon! hugs, dee~
  17. Shelbi! My partner! Oats - check NO red meat - check cycling 35mins - check fat 33% of total cals - check! Good job! We're on a roll! I can't wait to weight myself in the am! I'm so proud of you!!! I could just give you a BIG Hug!
  18. I loved me some hotdogs! I would get one at Cost Co -- without the bun and dip it in mustard! Yummy! I also ate some nuts, like pecans and walnuts. They are low carbs. I love cottage cheese with a little salt and pepper and hot sauce on it. Remember it took me about 5 days before I was back to my normal energy girl? It will cause you to feel exhausted for the first 4-5 days if you've really cut all carbs out of your diet. Anita, you told me several times that was normal and for me to just hang on and it would improve and it did!
  19. If you like Meat and Veggies, you should be okay. Just enjoy being able to eat whatever Meat you want without fearing they will stick. Mini had a great salad when we met for her last supper! I think most places have lots to choose from when you're on the pre-op.
  20. Thanks Lifesaver!!! Yup RR is on the 16th! I hope you can make it!!

  22. Jilly! Hi! I'm sorry you're getting nervous, BUT it's totally normal! Let me tell you what I ate on the pre-op and maybe you can get some ideas. I had to be on it twice, once before Thanksgiving and then again after the New Year. I learned that I had to plan my meals a head of time and have them partially prepared so that I wouldn't be tempted to grab something bad for me. I've carried that habit on to my banding life too and it works! Breakfast: Eggs, any type of meat is fine Lunch: Chicken, Fish, Turkey -- veggies are great! Dinner: Burgers sans the bun, more veggies. Breakfast for me was almost always eggs. I love eggs and they were easy. I also had some turkey sausage. Of course, no toast. Lunch, I'd have a taco salad, no tortilla bowl. A huge salad with everything you can think of, except the croutons. I also had Chicken and turkey a lot during this time. Grilled fish. I would go to Toyko Joes and get the chicken and veggies with the sugar free sauce. Dinner, for me a lot of time was a stew in the crockpot without the potatoes. I made steaks, brisket, roasted chicken from Cost Co was perfect -- I made a chicken salad and ate it wrapped in lettuce. I loved it. I made a red chili in the crockpot with meat only and tiny chopped up veggies. We ate a lot at Cheeburger Cheeburger - I'd get mine on top of a salad. We also ate at Boston Market. You can have all the veggies you want, no potatoes. All the salad and all the meat. We went to the Tomato Cafe and had salad. Eat things you love, just make sure they have no carbs in them. Remember some BBQ sauces and Ketchups have a lot of carbs. Maybe someone else can give you some more breakfast ideas. I'm pretty simple when it comes to eating.
  23. Your Baby is adorable! I think she looks just like you! Cute as a button! I love the roof! It's so you!!! I saw your ticker move! Yeah!!!
  24. Hi Deb! Yup, the Steel Cuts Oats is for cholesterol and fiber! We need to make sure we're getting good fiber. I fear at times when I decrease my carbs, I'm not getting in the healthy stuff, I need. Dr. Oz calls Steel Cut Oats, "little scrub brushes" that go through your body getting rid of all the bad stuff! He says they are the best for you to help prevent colon cancer too. The scale I have is the Tanta scale. I got it online and it's excellent and extremely accurate! I can weigh, walk away and come back and weigh exactly the same down to the tenth of a pound! I think it was $40.00 or something.
  25. Mini! I have to tell you when I went downstairs at Parker the day of your surgery to see you, I had no idea what your last name was. I told the receptionist, "I'm here to see my friend who is having surgery!" I knew your first name, but not your last. I told her, your first and she looked at me waiting for your last. I said, "I am sorry I don't know her last name, but she spells her first name like this...." I know she thought, "AND she's your friend?" It's great, I love this board and all of the support. I am constantly now thinking about Lap being in Texas while she waits for her new Grandbaby! I pray things will work out very well! It's like she's my sister or something! All of you guys are so special to me! I miss you when I can't log on! And Mini about your tummy being distented. I had that too! I felt like I was 9 months pregnant! I couldn't wear some of my pants for about 3 weeks! It does get better!
