  1. I had hernia repair and didn't have any pain swallowing or any cramping when liquids get to my stomach. I'm still on full liquids (which includes Soups and pudding) so that might be a factor. I'd ask my doctor, sounds unusual.
  2. @@Babbs I completely agree. My gallbladder surgery was a walk in the park and this was nothing in comparison. I was dressed and home an hour after waking up from my gallbladder surgery and never took any pain medication. I believe I had lots of morphine on the day of the sleeve surgery and needed pain meds for a few days after. What's nice though is the hardest part is over. I still have some incision site discomfort and weakness but it's minimal. The only thing I'm afraid of now is throwing up from overeating.
  3. @@TheBlissfulNatural My surgery was on 9/24 and I found the first 3 days or so pretty rough. I slept a lot, was in a good amount of pain and had no desire to eat or drink anything. I'm still feeling weak but I'm relaxing and taking it easy. I hear that about a month out, energy is back and higher than before. My issue now is that I really want to eat and have another week or so until I move to soft food. This liquid diet is for the birds! Hang in there, it sucks but it's a means to an end.
  4. I didn't care for plain Water before or after surgery. I drank a lot of diet soda before surgery and now am trying to make nice with the water but find myself usually using Crystal Light or drinking decaf tea.
  5. It's a normal fear, especially when we fail at every other diet. I was afraid and sometimes am still afraid of that myself. However, data shows as well as what I've seen on here, that it works a whole heck of a lot more than anything else you could do. 5% success rate for all other diets up to 80% success rate with surgery. And yes, you have to make changes but the surgery does enable those changes. I've logged my food for years and stayed fat but of course, I always stopped logging when I started overeating. I have just started logging again in the past few months. But I'm very focused on getting the right amount of Protein and the only way to know is to track my food. As we lose weight, exercise becomes easier to do so again, the surgery enables the new, healthier habit.
  6. Still on full liquids and ditto everyone's feedback. On a side note, I have lists of soft food recipes piling up. 5 more days, but who's counting.
  7. @@cdenney123 A binder is this stretchy band that goes around your waist. It helps support your abdominal muscles for a short time after surgery. (think of holding a pillow to your stomach to help reduce discomfort when you cough or sneeze) They automatically put it on me after surgery. I take it off here and there but I'm more comfortable with it on. They cut and stitch at the muscle level which is where most of the post op pain comes from.
  8. How's everyone doing? I lost 7.5lbs the first week which is probably a record for me. Didn't exercise at all the first week because I was tired and did have some pain I was dealing with. I've been laying around binge-watching The Tudors. I did take a short walk today and am going to try to ease back into a routine. I'm starting to struggle with the food demons. Thinking of all the foods that I want to eat (despite not being hungry at all) and I suddenly really want a Diet Pepsi. I drank caffeine-free before so I know it's not caffeine withdrawal. Just a bad habit that doesn't want to leave quietly.
  9. It's been a week since my surgery and overall I feel pretty good. I lost 7.5 pounds the first week. I'm off all pain and nausea medications but I'm still wearing a binder on my stomach for support. I've heard that I should expect to be more tired the first month. I really haven't been napping a lot the last few days so I figured I'd head out for a walk this morning. I lasted 10 minutes and was out of breath, sweating, my stomach cramping, shaky and weak. I was truly surprised. I was walking 60 minutes prior to surgery. It really does take a while to heal. Guess I'll just take it slow and wait for my energy to come back. Hope everyone else is doing well. I'm amazed at how fast I got bored with the full liquid diet. So ready to move on to the next stage.
  10. Very easy surgery. I was dressed and leaving by about an hour post op. Much easier than the sleeve surgery.
  11. Yay, congrats. I don't remember anything until about 8 hours post op and remember very little of the first two days. So glad to hear that you are awake enough to write.
  12. @@resipsa89 Thanks, I think you are right. I am off pain medications and doing well with Tylenol. And the food aversion is only temporary. My husband made brats last night and they smelled very good. I used to think it sounded so gross to puree food but if I was on puree, I would have blended up one of those brats last night. LOL
  13. Here's what I don't understand. I've read a lot of posts on gas pain and yet my doctor's office didn't really bring it up as an issue. I even asked in my pre-op class and they just said no one complains about it. So on surgery day when my surgeon came by to see if I had any questions, I asked about gas. He said that it shouldn't be an issue because they extract the gas out when they're finished. And by golly, no gas pains for me. So why don't all doctor's do this? It's clearly causing a lot of pain.
  14. @@Jon1111 Oh, I had not one second of buyer's remorse. I was simply saying that it's hard to believe I finally had the surgery. The past week sucked but I expected it to suck and promised myself I would never second guess my decision. I have not done that for even a second. That being said, I hope the scales show me some love soon.
  15. @@Boopgwee I was feeling stuffed and miserable yesterday after getting in all my Protein and the doctor's office called today and told me to cut back so I don't feel that way, I just may need less in the beginning. That might work for you. Take it very slow and make sure you sip. I've taken a few big drinks and I feel it going down and it's not pleasant. @@lose4life2 I have been enjoying nap time as well.
  16. You should be able to take Tums (or generic Tums) and it will give you magnesium. I think it's caltrate but my dietitian said it's the same thing. I have a stash of Tums in every room because i had so much heartburn pre-op. I plan to just take a few of those a day and they taste good. Did you ever think you'd be so excited for eggs and mashed potatoes?? LOL I am like 5 days post op but I can tell that food is starting to sound good again. I'm sure by the time I get to 2 weeks, I'll be as excited for some eggs.
  17. I'm only 5 days post op but some things are on my full liquids that are probably more like soft foods. This morning i had oatmeal for the first time. I used 1 T of oatmeal and made it watery. I feel like I ate a whole pie, very full. I think I'm going to try a yogurt for lunch. Was never a fan of it but I'm hoping my taste has changed.
  18. @@Boopgwee What are you eating when you get cramping? Seems like most of us are either on clear liquids or full liquids at this point. I am cutting myself off the pain medication today. I'm still pretty sore but I'm pretty sure that my lack of bathroom action is due to the pain meds. I'd rather be sore than not be able to go to the bathroom. The past few days I've gotten out to the store and walked around but got tired pretty quickly. I think I'll take the dogs out for a few short walks today and burn a few calories.
  19. @@lose4life2 Today was the first day I got all my Water and Protein in and I feel like I ate 2 Thanksgiving dinners. I'm having the opposite of the diarrhea problem. I've been taking Miralax every day and I'm hoping it works soon.
  20. I saw this thread for people who had surgery the week prior and thought it would be good to start one for everyone who had surgery last week. My surgery was on Wednesday the 24th. Had an unexpected hernia repair during the surgery which my surgeon said would make me more sore. He wasn't lying. I'm still pretty sore. First few days were a blur, I just wanted to sleep. My first three days I was only able to get down a 1/3 of a Protein shake. It was so much work. Today was probably the first day that regular food started looking appealing to me. Not having any issues with the liquid diet though, I generally get filled up pretty fast. My weight on day of surgery was 244 and this morning I was at 240. I have the next month off and I'm happy to have the time to bond with my baby sleeve. I have already learned that drinking too fast makes it chatty.
  21. To run the 2015 Honolulu marathon with my husband wearing something cute and skimpy. (and then spend a week lounging at the beach without being self conscious) @@Kindle This one made me laugh. Go hiking again without feeling like my lungs are bleeding....check!
  22. Don't stress about it because you might not even want fried foods after. I was all torn up about giving up my diet soda. I'm only 4 days post op but haven't even thought about wanting a diet soda and I don't think I've ever gone 4 days without one.
  23. I bookmarked your site so I can visit regularly. I had my surgery just a few days after yours so it'll be interesting to follow your journey.
  24. Oh, I would be very frustrated by that news. Will you have other insurance? I read a post on here where someone said that their insurance didn't cover the surgery and she signed up for different coverage on the Obama Healthcare site and it covers the surgery. Not really sure how it works but might be worth checking into.
