About Me

  • Gender
    Female
I am 58 years old, retired from a career in International Banking. I have often dreamed of losing the weight, made many attempts, lost weight only to gain back and then some. This past year our only son went away to college and I decided that now it was time to focus on myself.
My weight had been a big source of criticism from my family and friends in Nicaragua. They do not consider it improper to tell me how fat I am and to joke about it. When I was growing up my mom. my siblings, extended family were my food police. At 16 I came to the US to go to college and continued to buy into the social pressure about my weight. Once I got married and moved to SF Ca I decided that my weight was not what defined me.
Over the years my weight problem got progressively worse. I was out of touch with my body so much so that I was shocked to find out that at 5.2" I weighed more than my 6' husband!
The health issues were really what made me decide to get the surgery: Sleep Apnea, pre diabetes, early Cardiac Heart Failure.
I had surgery, a sleeve, in mid June 2014 at UC Med Bariatric Group in Sacramento, CA. The surgeon, Dr. Ali was wonderful both in his skill as a surgeon and his caring and patient bedside manner.
I am doing well with the food restrictions but just recently got on board with the exercise program.
