  1. What's up everybody! I'm Antoinette. I was sleeved on August 19th. I'm recovering well but these staples are annoying the hell outta me. I just came here for support and motivation on my journey. I've been going through a lot in my personal life and could use some positivity. :-) I live in the Dallas area and I'm 29.
  2. Hello all! I'm new to the site! My name is Antoinette and I'm 29 years old. I'm pre-surgery going through Dr. Kim in Texas. This is not the first time I've attempted to have weight loss surgery. I've tried two other times, but always hit some type of snag with the insurance company. Well since working at my current job, two people told me they successfully had it through our company insurance which is Anthem BCBS. My initial appointment was 03/22/14. I'm 5'1" and my weight was 359.8lbs. I chose the gastric sleeve option. The nurse tried to talk me into getting the duodenal switch but i decided against that. I was told by Dr. Kim he wanted me at 325 or less before he would schedule me for surgery. That sounded astronomical to me. Lol. But, i was ready for the change! I started my pre-surgery weight loss on 04/01/14 and as of today I'm down to 336.8. I have a weight check appointment next Wednesday and trying to figure out how to drop this 11 pounds in one week. Lol. It's almost like a dream that the only thing i have left is to drop 11 pounds and complete my psychological evaluation. I can't believe this process has been so smooth. The hardest thing has honestly been me trying to lose weight on my own. A lady at the office gave me this website to find encouragement buddies and i decided to give it a try.

    Today is the day!

I got Alpine Punch, Peach Mango, and Blue Raspberry. I love them all. I'm on protein shakes now so I drink both along with Crystal Lite. I can also have cream soups and the broccoli and cheese has saved my life!

    Today is the day!

The gas was terrible for me as well...I'm 8 days out and it's a LOT better. I'm still having problems getting all my fluids in. I actually like the Isopure. What flavors did you get?

    Too Good To Be True?

Just an update. I had my surgery 08/19 and am recovering well. The staples annoy the hell outta me but I get them taken out Friday. Yayyyy. It's been 8 days and I've already lost 14 lbs. I'm excited for what's to come. I'm finding it hard to get as much fluid in as I should. I just feel full all the time.
  6. Hey guys! So I'm pre-op and my surgery date is 08/19. I'm going through Dr Kim in texas getting the gastric sleeve. Here is my issue. I was told to start my liquid diet on 06/11/14 and continue it until surgery. That seems to be a bit long to me and I've talked to other sleeve patients who said their liquid diet ranged between 2-4 weeks. I just don't know why mine is so long and wondering how long you guys had to do yours.

    How long is too long?

Okay guys just called the doc and spoke with the nurse who told me it's mainly because i carry a lot of my weight in my stomach area and they want to reduce that as much as possible. She said since I've been doing so well with my weight loss on my own that she's gonna ask the doc if i can do one meal like a meat a broccoli until about 4 weeks out. Thanks for the advice!

    How long is too long?

It is specifically written on the paper that this is my diet until surgery happens....not after

    How long is too long?

Girl they told me 8 weeks no food. I was all excited about the surgery but when i thought about it i was like dang that's a long time. They actually gave me a list of the only things i could consume which consists of protein shakes, chicken broth, sugar free jello, sugar free popsicles, green tea, fitness water, zero calorie drinks, etc..... I think i am going to call them.

    NEWBIES..... LETS STICK TOGETHER

Just spoke with scheduling today and i chose August 19th. This process has been extremely easy. I started in April and it only took this long because i had to lose 35 lbs. I really can't believe it's all happening and am in a state of disbelief. But, I'm beyond excited. I just hate that I'm on this all liquid diet for eight weeks but i know it's gonna be all worth it in the end!

    Too Good To Be True?

I've been drinking atkins protein shakes and i eat a protein bar. I have to admit though it's very difficult for me to go with no food at all. I tried the liquid diet and it leaves much to be desired. :-( i know I'm gonna have to do it after surgery but man no food is a foreign concept for me. And i definitely don't have much support. My boyfriend uses food and cooking to show love and boy is he a good cook. Lol
