I have been on a quest for bariatric surgery for 6 years. I was denied twice by my prior health insurance company. I found a new policy that will pay for bariatric surgery and I switched in the winter of 2014.
I have Type II diabetes, high blood pressure, joint pain and had two hernia surgeries. I am hoping that the surgery will help with all of these problems.
March 2014
I am officially referred to the HealthSpan Bariatric program. It's a 6 month program....no exceptions. I have to attend clearances and nutrition appointments each month.
9/2014 My surgery date has been approved: 11/3/2014. One more pre-op appointment with my surgeon.
10/10/2014: I had an ultrasound of my legs today and they found an acute DVT in my left leg in a location that I had one 4 years ago after a 9 hour hernia surgery. The clot had resolved and I had clear ultrasounds in 4/2014. This clot is considered "unprovoked" and now my surgery will probably be delayed :-( I will see a hematologist and a rhumatologist to try and find out why I got this clot.
10/25/2014: The official word came today, I am currently on hold for my gastric sleeve surgery because a DVT was found in my pre-op testing. The Dr.'s tell me I'll have too wait more 6 months. UGH. SO SAD and upset. But I know it's the safest course. I don't want to be sick with a PE (pulmonary embolism).
1/28/15: clot gone.
3/5/15: Sleeve surgery scheduled for May 12, 2015.
3/6/15: clot back after a change in blood thinners :-( Back to Coumadin!
5/5/15: clot gone again!
5/12/15: My surgery day!
