faulkner hospital
karen123: I haven't used Faulkner, I went to Norwood. If you're interested in going a bit south of Faulkner, Norwood Caritas hospital worked out well for me. My surgeon is Dr. Adam Glasgow. He is the weight loss center director and he's fabulous. He is partnered with his Dad, Dr. Arthur Glasgow. They run a very good program - skilled, caring, efficient, and good post surgery support. Their office staff is great too. Best wishes to you. If you want, look them up at www.glasgowandglasgow.com Take care. Sue

single mom, 1 kid, what will i cook?
Hi: I have a trikke with air tires now. I started with a knock off trikke with polyurethane tires. The polyurethane is supposed to be easier to learn on. However, I'll probably never ride on them again. The air tires are so much smoother. With the poly tires you can feel every bump and crack in the road. With the air tires it's smooth sailing. You can try going on the website www.trikketalk.com and see if there's anybody nearby that has one for you to try before buying. The people there are quite friendly and maybe somebody has one of each for you to try before you buy. Best wishes to you. Sue

Just discovered a new method for "unplugging" stuck food!
Hi: I've found that while in a sitting position bend over and reach as far as you can forward. It helps something get unstuck. Take care. Sue

Ad Normal EKG, I'm so scared :O(
Bobbie: Glad they found it by running tests, and not by some other way. Hopefully this will just be a little bump in the path to being banded. Take care of you and your heart and then battle the weight. Best wishes to you. Take care. Sue

single mom, 1 kid, what will i cook?
Hi Susan: I can't answer to your question re cooking. I hardly ever do! I can respond to your question on rollerblading. Take a look at trikking. WWW.trikke.com I bought my new one at trikketampa. I am loving it, and it's so much fun that I forget that I'm exercising. It works muscles that I never knew that I had, but now I can actually feel them under my blubber! Good luck with the banding. As far as eating the right stuff goes, it takes alot of planning to eat the right things at the right time, but once you get into a routine you'll be fine. Best wishes to you. Take care. Sue

started eating solid foods... have a question
There is one thing I could never give up - coffee with fat free flavored cream. It keeps me sane. Nobody wants to be near me if I had to give up coffee.

Exercise Talk
Hi: I'm not sure about machines that can hold the heavy weight. However, walking outside will do the same thing. I find that I get alot more out of walking outside than being inside on my eliptical. Good luck in your weight loss journey. Sue

dizziness?
Is it possible that your blood sugar is getting too low? The muscle cramps can be caused by low potassium. Please do talk to your doctor about these problems and they can suggest a fix. I hope you feel better soon. Take care. Sue

started eating solid foods... have a question
Hi: I'm guessing that it won't do any damage. I think that you're not experiencing the full/restriction feeling because by drinking and eating at the same time you're washing the food through the band. If you are extremely thirsty it's better to drink something before you eat than after. However, it's best just not to drink and eat together. I hope that things go well for you. I found it hard at first to schedule everything to happen at the right times because I'm a coffee junkie. So, I decided that I will drink coffee from 7 am to 10 am and then have Breakfast at 10:30 or 11:00 am. Best wishes to you. Sue

had my surgery
angcal26: Hi there. You are not alone! You may find this to be a faded memory sooner than you think. Pretty soon you'll be out trying on new clothes and hanging out with your friends and doing lots of things that normal weight people do. Keep that in mind to get you through the difficult days. It gets much better when you can eat solid foods and feel restriction. Until then, keep your chin up, and positive thoughts. Oh yeah, the sugar free popsicles. I like the one's that are called "Life Savers". They saved my life in more than one way! I'm addicted to popsicles now though. Take care, and do it one day and one pound at a time. Sue

Mergatroy: I'll be your band buddy. I live in Norwood, MA. Banded 7/26/07. It's been terrific so far. I believe that exercising with the band is the best way to get the weight loss moving. LEt me know if you need help on specific topics. Take care. Sue

101 gone!!!
Ezma: What a great accomplishment! Congratulations. If your Mom wants to buy you new clothes, why not ask her if you could have them in the form of a gift certificate that you can use now or later. I bought mostly used clothes while on the way down. Second hand, clean after washing, and they're new to me. Best wishes for your continued success! Sue

Hi Everyone from MA
lizbit: Congratulations on your new band. I hope that you feel better soon. As far as the Protein goes, did you buy a Protein powder that can be added to things? That's what I used when I was worried about protein. If I recall correctly, soft boiled eggs might work. How about some mushy vegeterian baked Beans? Where did you get banded? I was banded in July 07 in Norwood by Dr. Adam Glasgow. Things have gone very well for me. Best wishes to you. I hope that you grow (shrink??) to love your band like I do. Take care. Sue

Will this go away?
Carly: I've always been a very hot sleeper too. It's gotten much better since I lost a full person. Best wishes to you. Sue

Here I sit......
Hi: Eating too fast does it to me almost every time! Yipes. If your portion sizes are okay and you don't have a problem except when you eat too fast, you probably don't need a fill. Hope you feel better soon. Sue

Massachusetts Bandsters Chat
Luv2teech: Hi: I am one of your fellow Mass bandsters. I wanted to respond to your weight loss slowdown, and some tricks that might kick you back to losses. I try to change my foods a bit. I don't know why, but this has helped me in the past. Another thing, change your exercise from one activity to a different one. I don't know why, but changes seem to make things move a bit. Another thing to consider is your portion size. If you're able to eat a larger portion than you used to, maybe your band is getting a bit loose. It is normal for it to get looser as you lose weight. Maybe you need a small fill. You may want to try tracking your intake for a few days. If you are only having about 1000 to 1200 calories a day, plus exercising like you are, you should be losing. Hope things kick back into gear. Take care. Sue

Can anyone give a good definition of "slime"?
Slime is like a "spit snake". It's thicker than regular spit and you could practically pull it out of your throat. Ewwwwwwwww. It's like egg white coming out of your throat. I guess this is the "super spit" that your body produces to help get something through that is stuck or when you irritate your pouch. Good luck. Hopefully you'll never have a visit from the "spit snake"! Sue

100% of goal weight loss within 1 year
JWRN: The trikke is very difficult on a hill. It's really meant for flat, smooth surfaces. I usually ride on back roads or parking lots. If you have bike trails near you that works too. You can google bike paths and see where there are bike paths near you. As far as the swerving back and forth being dangerous in traffic, I usually ride against the traffic. That way I can look the drivers in the eye and they realize that I can see them, and they can see me. I always wear a helmet. Take care. Sue
