  1. I just wanted to share my progress. I had RNY on May 19th, so not quite 3 months. I have lost 40 lbs thus far. It seems as if the weight loss has been slower than expected, but I have noticed a difference in how my clothes are fitting. I assumed my clothes would start looking better bc of the weight loss, but now have too much material in the waist area, making me look wider... I won't complain about this it gives me an excuse to go shopping. Unfortunately, my hair is changing for the worse. The texture is more straw-like, and it's noticeably falling out. At this point, I am taking Biotin, and looking into alternatives to cover this up while it re grows. Overall, I am very blessed to be able to tolerate almost every food I have tried post op. I still struggle with getting in all my proteins/fluids, but that will come I just wanted to ask-- what are some examples of Vitamin regimens y'all do? I really feel like it must be a mental thing but I Cannot stand taking pills. I tried chewable gummies Vitamins and those were getting to me disgusting to me too..Id love some examples of how people space their meds/vitamins. Here is a pic of my day of surgery, and of my current status. Thanks so much

    Progress ☺️

Thank you all! These responses are very helpful. I have to figure out a system that works for me bc right now I'm being very lax about it, and I know that's not good. I will try the caramel chews. And take these ideas into consideration!! Thanks so much, I really appreciate it! ????
  3. Hi everyone, I would like to share something I have just started experiencing and wondering if anyone has any similar situations. This has been a tougher week for me. I had some diarrhea issues earlier in the week. On Friday I was having some vomiting issues. The real concern is last night around 4 am I woke up with SEVERE pain in my lower right abdomen radiating to my back. I was unable to get relief with my heating pad or repositioning... I finally caught up with some pain meds which allowed me to rest for a few hours... Now it's kicking in again. I can't honestly remember my last BM. In the first few weeks of surgery I was tracking that more closely. Has anyone had constipation resulting in this much pain? I was concerned if this is related to my appendix or a bowel obstruction... I'm passing a little gas but not much... Yesterday I ate my three meals and drank a lot of Water and everything stayed down.. So I feel like if it was a bowel obstruction I would be vomiting after every intake. Let me know thoughts please. Thank you!
  4. Thank you all for your responses. The pain is very localized. More on my RLQ and radiating to my back... Which made me think appendix. I do have my gallbladder and am taking the medication to prevent the gallstones. When I was reading online it seemed like that would most likely be pain on my RUQ/shoulder area. The pain subsided after taking Tylenol and oxy that I had from my surgery. But now it's kinda creeping back. I am working on drinking a glass of miralax. The pain that woke me up was more sharp than dull, but just Very intense. Now it's kinda on the dull side but I have a feeling it will intensify. I just wish I could have a BM to see if that does the trick or if it persists... If it gets to the point where it did last night I'll have no choice but to go to the ER. Otherwise either way I'm gonna call my surgeon tomorrow. I decided to not take any more meds bc I don't want to keep covering an underlying problem with meds, especially when it's been apparent that it's kept coming back throughout the day. This is really discouraging and scary to me

    GOING BACKWARDS?

Hello, My name is Natalie. I had RNY on May 19th. Upon discharge I was on the puréed diet for three weeks. I was tolerating everything fine, with the exception of milk--so I switched to soy. About two days before the three weeks was up, I was SO SO tired of the puréed foods and bc I figured I was tolerating everything well I would move on to the next phase (despite not having my first follow up... Bad I know) So I tried baked fish, and a little salad. Everything was sitting well, and I thought great! Well, starting Monday of this week, I haven't been tolerating hardly anything! It started on Monday when I threw up my salad, about an hour after eating it. On Wednesday, I had a small banana and I almost threw up right before my first exam in my summer course. Yesterday I had a few sips of Water and almost got sick.. Today I was having some Cereal and now am still riding out this bout of nausea. It is disappointing to feel I am moving backwards, and concerning bc I am not getting the hydration/nutrition I need. Does this sound like it's part of the "healing process"? Or a possible complication (stricture)? I feel like I'm gonna see how the weekend goes and call my dr on Monday.... I'm worried about this :/

    One-week post op

Hey congratulations to you on your surgery! I completely understand the pain you're feeling on the left side... It's the worst! However my abdominal binder did come in the mail today and it's not a cure-all by any means but the compression and extra support does feel really nice. Maybe if your pain continues that's something you could look into! Being a side/stomach sleeper, I also understand the frustrations with not being able to lay on the side. Its still too sore for me to lay on my side and I'm getting tired of sleeping on my back. I use a body pillow and tuck it under my left side so that kinda props me somewhat on a side... It sounds like you're veryyy productive in these days following your surgery! Good job! I'm glad for the most part you're doing well after surgery :)
  10. I am one week post op, and still am experiencing this occasional but Severe burning/stinging pain. It just spreads throughout my whole abdomen and I literally have to "run" to the nearest bed or recliner chair so I can feel instant relief. I ordered an abdominal binder through Amazon, free two-day shipping, but sadly bc of the holiday weekend I won't get it till Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm also starting to get worried that I may be developing a hematoma, and I am wondering if this is why I'm experiencing this pain. Above my left main incision I noticed a bump that I didn't seem to notice before. I have been icing it and will call my surgeon tomorrow. Despite these setbacks, I am enjoying the small successes: -Losing 14 lbs since Surgery last Monday -increasing my Water and Protein intake a little more everyday -having a BM yesterday -the fact that I've had no trouble sleeping/resting at night -being able to tolerate all the liquids and puréed foods I've had so far. These experiences that we are all going through are highly personal. I think we all have our ups and downs to how our body's react post-operatively. For that, I will be happy for the things that have gone "right" this past week as opposed to dwelling on the negatives. This online community it such a huge support, and is loaded with so much information and guidance I wish you all a Happy Memorial Day
  11. Hello, I had my RNY gastric bypass on Monday, May 19th. The first and second days were pretty rough for me with pain and nausea. Getting in and out of bed was the hardest- I would feel an intense stinging at the incision site- especially on the left side. It felt like my stomach would rip open. However, the nausea subsided on the second day, and that second night I was able to sleep SO peacefully. I was feeling really encouraged... Today was my discharge. From about noon-till now I haven been experiencing a major sense of pressure/pain/tingling in my abdomen and kinda radiating to my back. The pain meds seem to not be touching this at all. It is only relieved when I lay down and do not move. Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas if this is normal or abnormal? Please let me know! This has been kind of discouraging.. Although I do realize surgery was only two days ago.

    Pain/pressure

Thank you I called the nurse and she got back to me right away. She said that the fold is very common and it almost looks like a "second navel". She said that it flatten out, and as angel face (thank youuu!!) suggested, she recommends getting an abdominal binder for extra support to relieve some of that pressure. She also said that crying is normal bc there a lot of shifts in hormones (I'm kinda already a cry baby lol) I feel so relieved now, and am so thankful for this site with people who have or are experiencing similar things... It is just wonderful!!

    Pain/pressure

Thank you for your responses to my concern. No changes this morning. I forced myself to finally shower. I looked at my stomach at the incisions and the incision on the left side where all this pain/pressure/tingling is stemming from looks different than the others. I kinda looks my skin was folded inward, like a tummy tuck. So now that area of skin folds inward and the rest of my incisions just hang naturally on me..... I don't know if I am describing this to the best of my ability. I called the nurse at the bariatric center to discuss this. In the voicemail I started crying, of course. This is the first time I cried about this whole process. Has anyone heard/experienced an incision like this? I just am praying so badly this isn't a mistake..... ????
  14. Hi everyone! My name is Natalie. I will be having gastric bypass on Monday, May 19th. I will post a pre-operative picture to this thread. I can't believe how fast my pre-op time has gone! In December 2013, I attended an informational seminar with my sister to learn more if I would be a candidate for weight loss surgery. My insurance required a total of 4 pre-operative visits. Being a full time nursing, the time has just flown by . Suddenly, it is the month of surgery and I am feeling a mix of emotions. I am beginning to feel nervous due to never having any prior surgeries or hospitalization, however even more excited in thinking of all the opportunities that could open up for me... In my very near future! I just wanted to introduce myself to the community, as I would like to share my journey, positives and negatives, with others! (Hopefully, the majority of it being positive). Do any of you have any suggestions for final preparations? In some threads, I have seen people purchase smaller spoons and plates.. Does anyone have any other ideas that I could consider? Well, hello again. I look forward to talking with you

    Surgery date!

Tomorrow is the big day...May 19th! I can't believe it is finally here. On the outside I am trying to appear calm, and collected. Inside, I feel a whirlwind of emotions. My surgery is scheduled for 9:00 am. When I arrive at the hospital I will post my starting weight along with a picture, to begin documenting these changes! I CANNOT WAIT! Best wishes to everyone else who is undergoing surgery tomorrow! My prayers are with you

    Surgery date!

Hahha! I think I might break that rule too. In fact, I might just copy that idea completely. Bc I feel like that would be so motivating for me, as I absolutely love clothes. I want to find a nice place to donate my clothes to bc I have a pretty extensive wardrobe and I feel someone could really enjoy them. I also chose to have the gastric bypass. I flip flopped between the bypass and the sleeve.

    Surgery date!

Ahh!! Yay for May 19th!! Thank you all for your wonderful responses and suggestions! ???? I am curious to those of you who have had surgery, how soon after surgery did you start losing weight? I realize it will vary person to person, but I'm just kind of wondering. I don't really know how to go about getting rid of/getting new clothes (which is a part of this process I am really looking forward to!!! )
