    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Sure - Provide Solid Gold. And I did get a tiny taste at the pre-seminar. I thought then it might be trouble!!
  2. Count me in! I need to lose 75 post-surgery (lost 20 pre). I've lost 2.5 post.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Well, I made it!! It's been 6 days since I was sleeved and I'm doing fairly well. Still nauseous a good bit of the time. I threw up the first morning home (blech) but mostly kept things down. The Protein shot they told us to take seemed to be the culprit so I'm steering away from those now! Otherwise fairly good. Thank you all for all your thoughts and prayers! Mine are with all those that already been sleeved and those upcoming!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

OMG!! The list for Dec 2nd has really grown! I was also told at my pre-op meeting with the surgeon that I could have a small plate at Thanksgiving. I don't know if I will yet or stick strictly to my pre- op. I'm 3 days in on that and STARVING!! I'm afraid I won't be able to stop if I start!! ????

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Unjury.com has a starter kit that has like 2 packets of each of their flavors. My facility sells Bariatric Advantage and I'm just getting a couple of each of their flavors, but on their website, they sell individual packets (bariatricadvantage.com). Unjury also has an unflavored and that is what is recommended for us for the first week+ so I also ordered a canister of that. That's going to be it until I see if I like these and go from there

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

OMG!! I had so many problems trying to get back on the site after the changes!! Anyway, I had my NUT and behavioral classes yesterday and started my pre-op diet today! And I'm actually a little less than 2 weeks out (12/2). We are asked to take something called Provide liquid Gold Protein shots for 2 weeks after surgery. Anyone else? We got to taste it in class and it was nas-tee!! I've got the Vitamins on order and some Protein Powder (samples for now) which should be here before surgery. We were told not to use a blender because it adds too much air (at least at first). Oh - and one thing I didn't know that I learned is that Sonic sells shaved ice. I've got a feelin' I'll be buying some of that!
  7. Thank you so much! I will definitely discuss my specific concerns on this with my doctor. Hopefully I won't have ankle problems after I lose some weight
  8. Does anyone know why anti-inflammatories are not allowed after surgery? And is this a forever thing?? Just wondering because I have tendonitis and doc specifically said he wanted me on an anti-inflammatory so what happens if I have a flare-up after the surgery?
  9. Thank you all so much for your responses! I understand much better now!

    Any food addicts here?

There should be a annag, there should be a Region (#) office (run by the gov't) somewhere close to you. For example, I am in Region 8. They offer mental health services and only charge based on your ability to pay. Plus there may be other facilities in your area that are locally run. Please do some research and see if you can find one of these or ask your doctor. If your doctor is already prescribing two anti depressants and this isn't "curing" the problem, then he/she should be able to help you find a therapist.

Anyone Afraid of Telling Others about WLS?

I know just how you feel! I haven't really told anyone. I've told a couple of people at work and my immediate family, but that is it! If it spreads at work, then I will know it came from one of two places and I won't be happy! My husband told my MIL the other day and I didn't know how to feel about that. She and my FIL have always been great, just... We've got a family (in-laws) gathering coming up this weekend and I am worried that the word has spread and I will receive some unwanted comments. I guess it is just so personal and I understand about the shame feeling. I am having the same feeling. My husband wonders why I'm down since I got my surgery date (12/2), but I think it is because I feel like a failure for not being able to do this on my own. And, then, of course, I'm worried about failing at this! Maybe that is why I am reluctant to tell. I've been trying to think of a response if anyone says anything after surgery about my weight loss and was thinking something like - "losing it under a doctor's care" or something.
  13. Thank you so much for the encouragement! I know all of us here suffer from ailments, stressors, the inability to do things we want, etc., but it sure is nice to be able to just lay it out for folks who will understand that we're not just being whiny-babies!! Just like the rest of you, I've tried to lose the weight traditional ways - just not happenin!!
  14. You would think being diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes would be the last straw - it wasn't, but that was probably the beginning. I first looked into surgery when I was diagnosed 1 1/2 ago because I figured the quicker I lost the extra weight, then the less impact from the diabetes. Then my Mom passed away (terrible in itself and unexpected even though her health had been poor for years!) BUT I didn't have anything to wear!! AND I had to go and try to buy something when I was all emotional and stuff and wound up crying in the dressing room because I couldn't find anything suitable. Finally had to 'settle'. Now I also have colitis to deal with and a bad ankle and all of it just became too much!! I am sick and tired of being sick and tired! Oh, and I have 2 young adults to deal with - 'nuff said there, I bet!!

    Low BMI Sleevers?

That makes perfect sense and is what I would expect.

    Low BMI Sleevers?

I've currently got a BMI in the 35 range after pre-op dieting (started in 37 range). I haven't heard this, but would also be interested to know if that could be an issue.
  17. pshew! Ya'll are making me a bit nervous that Transformations won't supply the after-care that they say. I'm self-pay (BCBS but my plan won't cover it). I got my date (Dec. 2) and started making the plans and Laura called and wanted to know if they could move the date up but I said no. December is a better time for me to miss work, plus my hubby had already started making plans to be off that day plus work from home for a couple of days (he's a real sweetie!). I'm kind of nervous and scared about the whole thing. Kinda depressed too. Weird, huh?! Maybe I'm mourning the loss of my food habit! Anyway, no one has mentioned a specific diet to me yet. They just told me to eat several small meals several times a day to prepare. I've got my NUT classes (I guess that's what it is!) in a couple of weeks so maybe I'll have to do more then. Glad to hear those of you that are doing well post-surgery!!
  18. If you have a good, reliable medical supply place there you should get set up pretty quickly. Ours around here are terrible and it takes forever to get anything. If you have contacted one and they are not responding, look for another. Heck, call all in the area and use the one who responds first!
  19. I have sleep apnea and am on a machine - it's called a CPAP. It hasn't made any difference in what I've had to do; however, they WILL want the/your pulmonologist to give the ok for surgery. They might also require a cardiac surgery approval. Those are the 2 things that were required of me, but I have established relationships with both.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Thanks AtlantaRed for helping me find this topic! Just to kind of recap for everyone - I've got my date - Dec. 2! I have my EGD done in a couple of weeks, but that is the only test that I still need. My bmi isn't as high as some, but I've got T2 diabetes, sleep apnea, high bp and colitis. It's just too much! I can't seem to get the diet down to manage both the diabetes and the colitis AND lose weight so my goal is to get down to only having the one health issue (colitis) that I can then manage. I get so overwhelmed trying to figure it all out right now... Just gotta keep moving forward...

    December Sleevers?

I got my date last week - December 2nd! I could have done it a week earlier, but figured I would wait and not put my family out for Thanksgiving! Plus it's easier to miss a little work in December. I'm excited and scared all at the same time. My insurance won't pay a dime on this so it is self-pay all the way. If my hubby hadn't told me out of the blue one day that we could cover it I would never have considered shelling out the moolah! But I really want to do this and to get healthy. I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes last year and haven't been able to lose and I have struggled with it all my life! Also have high bp and sleep apnea. Ugh! I'm so sick of being sick!

    Who Are You?

Ok - here goes - my first forum post ever! I am a 49 yr old working Wife and Mom who has 2 boys age 17 & 24. I've been married to the most wonderful man for 27 years. We met in college and got married as soon as we graduated. I've got one brother who lives far away and 2 lovely nieces and 1 nephew. My mother recently passed away, but my Dad is still hanging in strong! I work in IT, but am not a total geek cuz once I get home I want nothing to do with computers! I'm thinking this journey may change my mind on that to a certain extent! I've lived in the South my whole life, but love, love, love the mountains!! My husband shares that love and when we can manage we take trips to mountainous areas. Once we both get in better shape, hopefully we can begin doing the hiking we both enjoy more. We both want to travel and retire early enough and in good enough health to enjoy some!
