December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

This must be "come clean Monday". Thanks so much to BestYet2Come for sharing her last month's results. I had a similar experience and most certainly take full responsibility for it. I did find also that I was able to maintain my weight loss and was actually able to lose 3 pounds through my month of living dangerously. I got myself back on the beam on July 1 and am very grateful for the 4 pounds I have lost since then. I still have a long way to go and the posts you all share each week are very inspiring and motivating to me. Thank you so much. HW 285 SW 266 CW 222 TPL 63 TPG 145 Rock on!

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

HW: 285 SW: 266 CW: 227 Wahoo! Another week of 2 pounds this week and a total of 58 pounds lost! It's been a fun week to see the scale move. I increased my protein to at least 80 a day and I feel confident this has made the difference. I found Health Wise hot chocolate and it's easy and delicious so I'm having a couple of cups a day. At 15 grams of protein and only 80 calories, it's a real go-to for me. Have a great week, sleevers! You all ROCK!
  4. I'd like to ask your help. I am only getting in 600-800 calories a day. I find that amount satiates me but I need to add about 200 calories each day to move further away from starvation mode, trying to jump start my metabolism. I am meeting goals for Protein, fat and carbs with very low to little sugar in my diet. Do any of you have suggestions about what I might add to my food intake each day to add 200 healthy calories? I find I am only able to consume 3-4 ounces of protein at a time---- my first thought was to add a larger portion of protein but don't want to make myself sick or stretch out my sleeve. Thanks in advance for any advice you can share!

    Bad knees

I am 55 and had a severely arthritic hip prior to surgery. My orthopedic surgeon agreed to a total hip replacement 6 weeks following sleeve surgery. The six weeks between surgeries was very painful without any meloxicam. I continued to use pain killers during this time. The surgery was a blessing- a huge one. The pain I felt after the surgery was entirely different than prior and far more tolerable. I am sure the weight I lost prior to hip surgery and the weight I've lost until now has helped with my recovery. Only downside is that I was not able to exercise well until about 4 weeks ago so my loss has been slower than I would have liked. Small price to pay. Good luck to you and I encourage you to have those bad knees replaced. You have lots of life ahead of you so give yourself as much an advantage as you can!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

So sorry to hear fatigue has kicked back in on you. I have had tremendous fatigue as well and it comes and goes. Although it sounds counterintuitive, I find that when I start my day with some exercise, it keeps the tiredness at bay. Sometimes I am not able to do as much as other days but I get something done and it helps. I have also been amazed at how dehydration affects me. Make sure you are getting in all of your water--- super important. Hang in there!

I have a question for you on the hair loss...are you finding it coming out in certain instances, or can you just put your hand in your hair and pull it out? I've been concerned about the potential for hair loss, but I am not sure if it is something you see in your brush, or if you can just pull it out with your hand. [/quote In the morning when it is wet, I see a lot of hair in my brush. We are trying to figure out if it is my thyroid or due to the surgery (maybe lack of protein).. I hope you don't mind me weighing in on this but it has been one of my big concerns, too. I have very fine hair as it is so any loss is alarming to me. I started losing hair right at the 3 month mark, like everyone said would happen. I don't have it coming out in my hand but my brush is full every day. I've already shortened the length of my "bob" and hope that will do. I am taking Biotin twice a day and get at least 50 gm protein each day but trying to get in 60+. Am able to on some days but not all. Six weeks after the VSG surgery, I had another major surgery, total hip replacement. So, I probably have a double whammy with the effects from anesthesia--- my experience might be more pronounced than others'. My hairdresser has me using a 3 part regime from Aveda called Invati. I hope it's going to help out. All in all, it's really not as bad as I was expecting but I think I've still got 1-2 months to go.

  15. I have felt this as well and wondered if it was just me. I feel it even when sitting on some softer things. I just readjust myself and carry on! I suppose it's a pain to be thankful for...

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

At 9:00 tomorrow morning, I'll be heading in to surgery for my Hip Replacement. Not thrilled to be back in the hospital but am so excited to get rid of this ever-present pain. I'm excited for the opportunity to finally exercise and perhaps even see the scale move a little faster. It was my need for a new hip that led me to the VSG in the first place. Funny how one thought or action can lead to another. Keep up the great work everyone and I'll look forward to seeing your successes continue. Blessings to you all. Sally

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

HW: 285 SW: 266 CW: 252 Still much slower in coming off and it is a bit disappointing. I am telling myself it is because of no exercise and hope that really is the reason. Only 11 more days until hip replacement surgery and then therapy and exercise can start in full. It has been a 2 year journey of increasing pain to finally have this hip surgery done. I think back to all of the ways my life became more and more limited during this time and wonder how I let it go for so long before getting something done. I haven't been out for a day of shopping, for a visit to a museum, on a trip that included walking or even a comfortable visit to the grocery store in 10 months. And this inactivity only led to weight gain during this time. It was actually preparing for this surgery that opened up the door to VSG for me. My Ortho said he would not do the surgery until I lost some weight and he suggested having this procedure. So I'm grateful beyond belief and am so ready to get this final piece done. I have really stepped out and given myself what I truly need to get "me" back. I have taken leave from my job since November to concentrate on myself. I used to travel across country every other week (airport walking was a killer) and my company accommodated me by having an apartment for me out there. It took me a while to realize they weren't really doing this for me but for them! I was a compliant workaholic. So I am taking all the time I need, without pressure, to focus on what is best for me. And it's not been easy to place myself first. I have replaced all of the emails that were generated by my job with emails about your postings here. What a positive change! Your encouragement, success stories, challenges have all provided me with the support I need and I appreciate each and every one. Thanks for being here and being a non-judgmental group of people. Only 11 more days (with hopefully a few more pounds gone) and then BRING IT ON!

    does it get better?

Yes, it does get better! What you need to do right now is get meds for the nausea and for the pain. This is no time to suck it up, to feel like you need to be a hero. You will heal better when you are not in pain and that pain will go away sooner, You have just come out of major surgery and you've got healing to do. Just rest, try not to worry about anything, listen to your body and let the nurses and caregivers take care of you. Hang on. You are going to be fine! Congratulations for taking this brave step and enjoy creating the new life you want for yourself!
