  1. Hi. I am having RNY next Tuesday. My insurance company has a specific clause disallowing all WLS. I am self paying 26k out of pocket for this surgery. However, I am getting EOBs from earlier visits for nutrition, lab tests, psych eval that have all been submitted through my insurance company and they are paying those charges! They didn't pay for surgeons visit, but basically everything else. Now, on Thursday, I have to pay my 26k. But they have already been paid for items included in the flat fee. When I asked at the clinic, the lady said, oh well they weren't supposed to charge that through, you are self pay. Duh... I know that. S I told her that her office did. She said it didn't matter. After the procedure they sit down and go through all my charges and if the insurance company paid anything, they will be refunded. I don't believe them. I think they will pocket my money and what the insurance company pays. Anyone ever seen a review post surgery of your account? Has anyone ever bought Bliss insurance and needed it? Thanks. BTW, this is Cleveland Clinic.
  2. I am on day 6 of 14 of the liquid preop diet. I was getting discouraged as I didn't feel I was losing any weight. I was on vacation for the last week and tried hard to do good. I only had a few bites of food on one day and some watermelon along the way, but mostly shakes and jello. This morning I weighed myself and I am down 9 pounds from May 2!! Only 9 to go to the weight nut wanted me to be at! This gives me so much motivation for the rest of the week! Surgery week from Tuesday! I am so ready! Good luck to all surgeries this week! I will be thinking about all of you!
  3. Question everyone...I am on day 3 of pre op liquid. Headaches daily and having hard time concentrating. Is it alright to eat watermelon? Low calories and 92% water? How about soup? I can get same amount of protein from soup as shake, with fewer calories. Having hard time finding shakes I like. Is it that I need to eat 800 calories, or only liquid? Seems like I could do this easier if I just restricted to calories, and not liquid. Just trying to keep sanity for 11 more days!
  4. Dr Brethauer is doing mine. I really liked him but I think all of the doctors in Bariatrics at CC are great. Good luck!
  5. Got my date.... May 28 starts my new life. I cannot wait!
  6. They called today. Got my surgery date. 5/28!!!! I am so excited...and scared! Can't wait to start my life!
  7. My insurance covers nothing....but more than willing to cover a lifetime of diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.... Go figure. But I will self pay at a cost of $26k. Worth every penny.
  8. Hi everyone. I am new to the group. Attended a seminar a year ago, but found out my insurance company doesn't cover WLS. So I took a year, saved like crazy and now am self paying for gastric bypass. I cannot wait. I was cleared from everything on Friday, now just waiting for surgery date. I am nervous, but so ready for this. I have been heavy my entire life, always being the big girl in the room. I am sure like most heavy people, always sure everyone was watching me when I came into a room, laughing or just disgusted by me. I met a wonderful man that I married, but my weight ballooned after getting married and then I didn't want to be seen by him, so needless to say our sex life is pretty much non existent. He is being very supportive of me, coming to all of my appointments and telling me how proud he is that I am finally doing something for myself. I know this wont be easy but I am so ready to start fighting for myself. I went out today and bought various protein shakes as I have to do the two week pre-op of shakes only. I figure I had 43 years to eat whatever and whenever I wanted and look where that got me. We have already been walking for a year now, looking forward to walking without so much pain. Reading your posts has been so inspirational. I am so ready for this, but also scared about complications. Especially for self pay. Anyone know of insurance I can buy for complications? I am meeting with the financial consultant for the Cleveland Clinic next week, just wondered if anyone had any first hand knowledge.
