This whole journey went from exciting to a nightmare in a flip of a coin.
Okay so here's the scoop: I had my gastric bypass surgery on February 4, 2013. The recovery time was supposed to be 3-4 weeks; Well, I had nothing but complications from Feb 4's surgery until 2/10/13. They did the 1st surgery (2/4/13). I had to have 3 blood transfusions before Wednesday late morning (2/6/13), I had a bleeder that no one could detect, so I had a 2nd surgery which was more invasive. After they 2nd surgery on Wednesday they had to put me in a surgically induced coma because my vitals and everything were way out of whack. I woke in the ICU unit on a respirator which scared the be-jesus out of me. I got out of ICU Friday night. During the 2nd surgery, they implanted a surgical pain dispenser that was installed like an IV but was held in place with a few sewn stitches to secure it so it couldn't accidentally get pulled out. My IV sites kept blowing and were bad from day one so they implanted a pick line that could handle many things at once, like blood transfusions, IV fluids/meds and pain meds which I could administer for myself, it was called a PCI drip. Saturday I had two severe and very bloody bowel movements and had to have 2 more pints of blood for a total of 5 bags throughout the weeks journey. I think I covered just about everything except I may be out longer than I had originally thought but I could be wrong. My surgeon told me I won't be able to wear a bikini, lol like that has ever been a thought, I'm not a bikini kind of girl. Lol. I'll be glad when I can fit in any suit that doesn't resemble Orka the great white whale. Only reason I wasn't happy was because I already had 5 or 6 small incisions which was causing some discomfort but with the my new incision, span's 14-18 inches long (approx. 25 staples) and the pain from the 2[sup]nd[/sup] surgery is something I have never experienced in my entire life.
I was so excited because my blood count almost made it to 30 on Sunday so I got to come home from the hospital that evening at about 6 or 7 (Sunday 2/10). The ride home was a b.... VERY Painful. But it was worth it!!! Everything from Sleeping, walking, talking, breathing and just about everything has been a real struggle. February 19 was the 1[sup]st[/sup] day I felt somewhat okay and only had pain when I moved instead of constant pain. My doctor was with me through it all and I am grateful he figured out what went wrong.
