    anyone near Geneseo New York?

Dr. O'Malley and everyone at Highland are the greatest! Just wonderful, the whole process. I go back in a few weeks for my 6month post-op. You are DEFINITELY in good hands up there

    December 2012 Post Op Group

Hi Everyone. It has been a long time since I've been on. Over a month at least. It was crazy to go back and see some of the progress everyone has made. You're photos are amazing, you all look SO different! Some unrecognizable! Isn't it funny how people say that? I went to a BBQ on Memorial Day with my husband's side of the family, many of them I hadn't seen since Christmas time pre-op, and a handful said "I didn't know who you were, I didn't recognize you"I think it's hard for us to believe we look so different unless we see the side by sides because we see ourselves each day and know our struggles. Not a lot has changed for me weight-loss wise in the last month. I've been stalled out at around 255 for WEEKS. Going really from 257-254 I just can't seem to break it. The scale this morning said 251. I realized that once I hit 250 I'm at my halfway point. I will be down 70lbs and have 70 more to go. That "70 more to go" is what scares me. Since about early April my weight loss has just been slow slow slow. And I know what you're all going to say- do you work out? Do you eat lots of protein? The answer to both is yes, but not enough, but I also think I'm just going to be a slow-and-steady loser. And I'm okay with it. I'm still in a size 18/XL, though I do have 1 size L top I can wear. I was hoping to be 14/16 by this point, but it's still an improvement. Yesterday I caught myself in the mirror while I was out and I couldn't believe it was me. My face didn't look swollen. I didn't have a double chin hahah. Even at almost 6mos post op I still don't think I look all that different sometimes. My body is starting to droop. My hips/thighs, arms, and chest look SO saggy to me. Surprisingly, my stomach is the one thing that doesn't seem flabby. I know I need to step up my exercise game, especially since I'm paying for a gym membership. I'm pretty much at the point where I can eat whatever. I've still not tried a few foods, like pizza, rice, fast food, etc. but I've eaten some things I shouldn't too. I still avoid bread when possible, now that it's grill season I do bunless burgers a lot. Real quick- some non-RNY positives I've had lately: bought my first brand new car (2013 Chevy Cruze-she's beautiful), finished my first year of grad school, and starting a new job soon. Not a lot of photos taken of me lately, but here's one of me while out on a wine tour yesterday (I live in wine country, it's not too shabby) and my profile picture is of when I completed my first 5K--the color run Hopefully next time I check in it won't be another month, and hopefully I'll have passed my halfway point!

    Doing a 5K..whaaaat?

I just registered for my first ever 5K!! I've always wanted to do one and feel like this is the perfect time to do it. It's not until April so I've got a few months to go, but this is exciting for me. I've never been a runner, but feel confident I can do this! Has anyone else ever done one?

    Restaurants & Eating Out

We're going out with friends tonight to Joes Crab Shack to celebrate my husbands birthday. This is my first time out to eat with people since surgery 5 weeks ago. What experiences have others had while eating out? Any restaurant recommendations or

I'm nervous if I buy it now it may be out of stock by June. Silly I know.

    What ya eating tonight?

I have way too much going on in my life to deal with Internet arguments. This thread has become silly. Everyone on this site is an adult. Lets start acting like it. From now on if I have questions, I will ask my licensed physicians and surgeons and if I need dinner ideas I'll ask google. I wont be participating on these message boards anymore as I feel it's become a joke. I doubt anyone will miss me since I never participated much to begin with. Should people decide to stop criticizing people for either a) sharing a poor food choice or getting mad if someone calls them out on eating crap then maybe I will return. Best of luck to you all on your journeys.

I also have a wedding coming up in June & want to buy a cute dress now while they're in all the stores but have no idea what size to buy or how much I'll change between now & then. Since surgery I've lost 60lbs and went from a tight size 24/3X to 18/XL. I will cry, literally cry, if I ever get to single digit sizes.

    What ya eating tonight?

I'm sorry, I don't mean to sound like a jerk so please don't take this as anything other than general concern for your success but why on earth if you are still on liquids would you try to eat garlic bread?? I am over 4 months post op and still haven't eaten something like that (I am not holier-than-thou, I have made my fair share of less than perfect choices). And soda? You need to get that out of your house if it is a trigger for you. I know it's hard to change, but if you want any sort of success from this surgery, you need to follow the rules. Not only will you not lose weight but you could seriously hurt yourself eating bread & drinking soda so early out.

Cooked some chicken breasts in the slow cooker with a spicy BBQ sauce & made pulled chicken. Yum!

I've been lingering in the same 5lb range for a while too. The weight loss has slowed significantly in the last month. Seems like most weeks I barely lose a pound. Now that we're all in the 3-4 month post-op range, are people finding it harder to follow the rules? I know I am. I don't necessarily mean the diet, as I still eat well and stay away from the bad foods, but what I mean is like: I sort of feel like I get it now. I don't have as many questions or concerns anymore. Life after RNY is just second nature, so I don't think about how I need to sip sip sip all the time, or worry about what I'm going to eat and when. I'm also terrible at remembering to take my vitamins. And I don't wait 30 minutes after I eat to drink. I kind of feel like I'm back to living my normal life, just eating differently. My weight loss probably could be better if I was stricter with an eating routine, but even a slow loss is a loss, so I'm happy. I still have my days where I'm not hungry, and days where I'm a bottomless pit, but in general I feel pretty "normal" Am I the only one?

    New obsession

Coffee. I always liked an occasional latte, but I now drink coffee everyday. I usually do decaf but ocassionally if I'm really tired I'll do regular. I also weigh myself daily, sometimes more than once. If you weigh yourself right after you wake up and go to the bathroom, before you eat or anything, it's the lightest you'll be all day I use that as my "true" weight, as I can "gain" at least a pound or 2 throughout the day. I always "lose" it by morning though

    Syntrax Nectar

    Mmm Starbucks.

    Syntrax Nectar

I just got the big tub of the Iced Tea flavor and I love it! Ok maybe love is a strong word, but it's so much better than the chalky thick chocolate & vanilla powders I had before. I put 2 scoops (23g Protein each) into my 32oz Water bottle. I want to get the Lemonade one too before summer. I wish I knew about Syntrax nectar 14 weeks ago. but I agree, it does smell kind of funky

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Whenever I see friends or family I haven't seen in a while they all react so "Oh my god you look sooo good/different" and it's kind of weird sometimes. I mean, I see some changes in my body, but not like they do apparently. and I still have like 85lbs to go too.

    What ya eating tonight?

We just got back from NYC where we ate out--A LOT! So I'm going to make a home cooked meal tonight. chicken breasts, roasted asparagus with garlic, and sweet potatoes. Just have to decide how I want to prepare the chicken.

    What ya eating tonight?

I had my first "unwich" from Jimmy Johns for lunch. Good but simple, could have made it myself. Had some chicken w/buffalo sauce for dinner that gave me some stomach cramps. Don't think I'm ready for spicy yet.
  20. I'm still a looong way from those small sizes.

    Wine....

Yes I did! Dr. O'Malley. I'm 3 months post op. It's been a wonderful experience for me start to finish. You?

    What ya eating tonight?

How do you do with ground meats? I don't eat a lot of big pieces of meat either because it fills me up, but I can eat a good portion of ground chicken/turkey/beef. Both scrambled or in patty form. plus, plain grilled chicken breast gets boring to me. Rotisserie style is good though, it's soft. Maybe worth a shot?

    Wine....

I work in Rochester! Does your husband work for a winery in the Finger Lakes? I can't wait until the weather warms up and we can go tasting again
  24. How funny, I was just going through this today!! I didn't cry, but I find myself holding on to clothes I know I won't wear again because "Oh I might want to wear that one more time." But I won't, especially the sweaters and cold-weather clothes, I'm nervous to get rid of them yet. I have SO many clothes too. I have a love of shopping, and my dresser and closet are overflowing. I need to part with these. I tried to sell some to Clothes Mentor, but they didn't want them. So I guess I'll donate. I just hate to do it because some of the clothes are relatively new. Oh well, may they go on to make someone else happy...
