Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters
I finally got myself out of bed early this a.m. and walked for about 30 minutes at the track with my daughter. It felt great to finally get moving - although I was a little droopy today at times. I'm going to "try" to crawl out of bed again to walk Friday - wish it was more fun! Kim

Marcy, I'm glad I'm not the only one with no exercise motivation - I know I just need to get up and do it - should we challenge each other to exercise at least 3 times a week? I'm seriously considering hitting the bed earlier tonight so I can wake up early to walk... I have my 2nd fill the end of September - I can't tell ANYTHING with this first fill, other than I still can't eat chicken...I am REALLY ready for some restriction of some sort. Playing with the kids IS good exercise for all of you! I teach 4th grade and am on my feet 90% of the day, but I know I need to get up and moving so my heart rate will increase and burn some calories. Keep up the good work! Kim

I think that's going to have to be my plan! I just can't get motivated after work. I have about a 25 minute lunch period total, and trying to slow down my eating to around 20 minutes leaves about enough time for my bathroom break (I'm a 4th grade teacher) before I get the kiddos. I have watched Fat March - I think I would die! I haven't seen the past few episodes, but it is motivating. Thanks for the post! Kim

:cry How funny! Loved your post - maybe I'll give that a try! I do seem to lose motivation as the day wears on! Thanks for the lift! Kim

I am really in a rut as far as getting myself in gear to exercise - I had hoped with 30# gone I would feel more like it, but no such luck. I teach 4th grade and am on my feet all day and am just TIRED when I get home. Any good motivational advice (other than get off my butt) :help:

I had the EXACT same problem with some General Tsao's chicken over the weekend - it was miserable! the eggroll seemed to go down o.k., but not the darn chicken. I think it's the worst I have felt while eating - almost didn't make it to the bathroom before PB'ing - and I was in the mall. AUGH! I really tried to chew, chew, chew, but perhaps I was eating too fast? I've had issues with chicken before, so maybe that was my problem. How do you feel after your 2nd fill? I've had 1cc in my 4cc and want MORE - I can't tell much difference. Kim

The tuna helper was WONDERFUL! I added extra tuna to it for added protein...nice to have something semi-normal again!

That's too funny! I have been working on my room for quite a while - today I got all of my posters up on the wall (hot glue gun) and have been putting my daughter and her friends to work as well moving desks, etc. We start school Monday - kiddo's on Wednesday - AUGH! I have 17 little darlings this year - 20 last year - 4th grade. I loved my class last year, even though they were supposed to be a "difficult" class. Congrats on everyones loose fitting clothes! Mine are getting a little less tight - I wouldn't let myself buy any when I kept gaining - had to squeeze in the suckers. I'm ready to start looking through my older, smaller clothes! I'm making tuna helper tonight - haven't tried it before - doubled the tuna - I'm still on soft foods, so thought it would be good? Night! Kim

Tell me what you think of the grape - I had to spit the fruit punch one back out it was so disgusting! Hoping grape would be better? I got the sample pack from bariatric eating.com so am wading my way through - have found a couple I like but the test tube fruit punch was certainly not one of them! Coffeeee??????I hope so! Kim

I'm a teacher as well and inherited a LOT of STUFF when I entered the 4th grade last year. I sorted and sorted and gave all of my surplus that was in the room to anyone who would take it! I didn't get through the whole room last year so I finished up this summer - what a chore! It's at least nice to know where everything is. When do you start school? Teachers begin 8-13 and students 8-15 AUGH! Good luck! Don't overdo - Kim :bounce:

I've only told my close family members (and one close friend) about my surgery as of yet. Wasn't planning on telling anyone - but then Star Jones "outed" her surgery and some people think she's a little of a shamster for not being open. SO, my dilemma is now should I just tell whoever so I won't be seen as "hiding" my surgery, or keep it under wraps and just let people wonder. I've had people I work with already comment on the quantity (or lack thereof) that I'm eating - what would you do? Or what have you done? Thanks - Kim

That scale sounds wonderful Cazulay! My scale weighs different than the Dr.'s scale so I'm not sure how much I've lost - maybe I should take it with me to my next appointment and synchronize Kim

I know we're really not well acquainted, other than me reading your posts, but I went through a similar situation as yours - and I must say - 13 years later I am an a fabulous marriage with a very honest, loving, and sensitive guy - my daughter (with my first hubby) is much better adjusted having a stable home life, and I never knew a relationship could be this great, since my other one was the shits. My ex-hubby (among many other things) used to stay up late watching t.v., then would sneak out of the house to go? I caught him coming home one night and met him with a motel key (for him) - that was the last straw...I still can't sleep with the t.v. on because it reminds me of those lovely times. Anyway - there is a happier and better life out there - just do what's best for you and your daughter. Good Luck! Kim

Poll: Are you glad you were banded?
So far ( 2 1/2 weeks post op) I am VERY happy with my decision and would do it again in a heart beat. I can certainly tell a difference in the way I am needing to eat - small bites, chew slowly, and get full MUCH faster - I am looking forward to my first fill so perhaps I won't get hungry as quickly after eating. I am a huge sweet and "comfort food" craver, but haven't had really too much of a problem missing those foods, except when my daughter wanted to eat at Cracker Barrel - one of my weak spots. I had mashed potatoes with some gravy - it came in a perfect serving size (about 1/2 cup) and I milked them for all they were worth. Still wanted the peach pancakes with whipped cream . Gastric Bypass sounded pretty scary to me - especially with the malnutrition aspect, and the fact that it can be abused and the pouch stretched - and I also read that if you eat sweets or some other foods you have a "dumping" syndrome where you get sick - yuck. I also think all of the excess skin caused by the fast weight loss would be awful. Especially some of the pictures I've seen on t.v.

Good for you SSANKOFA - I just can't get myself motivated to exercise other than my normal activities. It's so hot here I hate to go outside, let alone walk - I think I'm just needing a swift kick in my butt...

7/17/07 Surgery Date!
Mindy and Carmel - sorry I didn't reply to your posts for a while - I've been on a trip and at meetings for work - that's awesome that we were all banded on the same day! How is everything going now? What stage of the post-op diets are you on now? I'm on mushies/soft - will be for another week and a half, then supposed to introduce "regular" foods - kinda nervous. I've had a couple of times when the food doesn't go down so well and it sure is painful. Have either of you had that experience? How are you doing on the exercise part? I don't seem to have that motivation yet - and it's hotter that heck here so not to excited to get outside and walk. Hope to hear from you soon!!! Kim

Banded 7/17 - help, need advice
16 Pounds! That's AWESOME! Isn't it nice to get on the scale and it actually goes DOWN! It's been a little like slot machines for me all my life...that moment of apprehension, then the numbers, then AUGH! it goes up...now I still have a hard time believing it's going down - I weigh 2 - 3 times just to make sure! I've been trying to expand my food groups to include more veggies and fruit in addition to mostly Protein - I think the variety has slowed me down a little and fills me up pretty well. Plus...my daughter's friend grows canteloupe (sp) so I've been enjoying that - YUM! I had scrambled egg for the 1st time today - had a rough time with the first couple of bites - really hurt - must not have chewed enough. Do you every have that problem? When are you scheduled for your 1st fill? I have mine in about 2 1/2 weeks - kinda nervous - have a little needle phobia...

Your lists are awesome! Some of the things I didn't think of but certainly DO apply! I was banded 7/17 and it's been a whirlwind of activity since then...my ex-mom-in-law (my honorary "mom") was visiting during my surgery - also had our local 4-H county fair I had to work at a few days after, then took "mom" back to San Antonio - and squeezed my post-op appt. in on the way to SA. Needless to say - the activity has certainly helped keep my mind off of the pain (not much anyway now) - the hard part was all of the restaurants on our trip. I even sat in the car and ate a container of baby food while my daughter and "mom" ate filet mignon at one of my favorite rest. AUGH! BUT - the scale keeps moving down, and I feel full after eating a little. I'm starting to get hungry faster after I eat so am looking forward to my first fill to slow that down a little. Anyway...my list... - energy - buying the cute clothes at the Harley shop to wear when I ride my bike - shopping at "cool" stores and not looking at the back of the rack for the bigger sizes - better sex life (I'm sure hubby's ready for that as well) - feeling in control of my health - cooking fun gourmet meals without eating too much - looking great for my daughter's high school graduation in 2 years - not feeling self-conscious at the front of the classroom with my back (and butt) facing the kids - fitting comfortably in those damn airplane seats! - amusement park rides - my next class reunion! Thanks for all of the continuing inspiration and advice! Nice to know I'm not alone! Kim :biggrin1:

Banded 7/17 - help, need advice
We are banded twins - I was banded on the 17th as well - hope things are going better for you now. My stomach has finally deflated from the surgery - it was quite bloated and hard as well for quite some time. Now it's easier to button up without pain. I was on clear liquids for 2 days, full liquids for 3, mechanical soft for a week, and am now on soft, mushy foods. I can really tell when I am eating too fast or not "chewing" the mush well enough - kinda hurts like it's not going down. Let me know how your doing - I'd be interested in keeping contact since we were banded on the same day! Kim

Got My Band 7/30/07!!!
I tried walking fairly early on - it helped that our County 4-H fair was that week and I had to work a little there, then vacation with walking, etc. I was sore for a couple of weeks, not bad though, am on week 3 and feel SOOOO much better! Every day I felt better after surgery - it'll get better and better! It is so nice to see the scale going DOWN instead of UP for once. My throat irritation went away after about 3 days - seemed to be better the more water I would drink. I find myself moving around and thinking...hey...that didn't hurt now! Good luck Becky - you're going to do great! Just don't overdo during healing - I was on clear liquids for 2 days, full liquids for 3 more days, mechanical soft (really mushy) for a week, and am now starting on soft foods - I've had some overcooked mac and cheese made with milk, refried beans with cheese (yum!), soup, Fettucini Alfredo (chewed really well), pudding, jello, etc. I have really tried to make sure I get a lot of protein in the day - found a juice called "Naked" that had a pretty good protein drink, had coconut, pineapple, and banana in it (I'm picky too, but liked this). I can really tell when I'm not chewing enough or eating too quickly, or am eating too much - I get a sensation of the food getting "stuck" on the way down, kinda painful, so be careful! Kim

Banded teachers
Hi all! I have been pre-plotting my school year as well - I have 30 minutes for lunch so will plan on eating in my room - and nothing too earth shattering - I was just banded 7/17. I have no breaks in the a.m. from 8:10 - 11:20 so will have to be careful what I drink in advance. Hopefully I'll have a para in there during part of the time so I can make a quick escape if needed.
