  1. I want to have the lapband done, but I am afraid. I was set to do this a month and a half ago, and my husband asked me not to. He was talking to his friends about it, and they told him horror stories of people that had it done. I cancelled my surgery the night before I was schedulled to have it done. Please tell me how anyone has felt emontionally before the surgery and after. Lynn

    No Spouse Support

Jiggley, I too have lack of spousal support. When I first started my quest to have the surgery, I thought my husband was on board with me. The night before surgery, he voiced his concerns to me, and I cancelled the surgery. My husband had talked to some of his friends who all had stories of someone they knew who had complications. Lizster mentioned the press talking about all that can go wrong with gastric bypass. I too agree that there is heresay that gets started about lapband because people aren't differentiating the two surgeries. I think this happened in my case with my husband. I am going to include my husband this time around with doctor visits to allow him to get information first hand from the doc. I didn't do that last time. Hope this helps you. Lynn
  3. I would really like to tell my 10 year old daughter. She's very mature, and I believe that she would understand, but my seven year old is still a little young. Another problem with telling them is that they would probably talk about it in front of family members. I'm going to continue to think about it, and focus on what would be in my children's best interest. Lynn
  4. I haven't had lapbanding yet, and if I do, I can't decide if I am going to tell my kids about it. My daughters are 7 and 10 yrs old. The 10 year old has a weight problem, and I don't want to send either of my children the wrong message about being overweight. However, I don't want to feel like I'm lying if I have the surgery. The kids will wonder where I am the night that I stay in the hospital. They will also notice that I'm not eating the same kinds of foods that they are eating during meals. What has anyone done in this situation?

    Afraid

LapBandit, Thank you for your words of support and advice. I am going to ask many many questions, and this time I am going to ask my husband to go to dr. visits with me. I think (hope) he will be reassured when we discuss the details with the dr. Thanks again. Lynn
  7. Dear 40goinon20, That is wonderful! Good Luck! I am envious. Lynn
  8. I was all set to have the lap band on July 6th, and I let family talk me out of it. I work in a hospital that has a weight loss facility. Everything went wellgetting insurance approval, and the cost was going to be very reasonable due to me being an employee. My sister also works at this hospital as an RN, and harshly voiced her negative opinion against the dr performing the surgery, and also told everyone she knew (they also know me) in the hospital about the bad choice I was making. My husband also became extremely worried the night before my surgery due to friends influencing him. I therefore cancelled. Has anyone had such problems getting support from the people that mean the most?

Will, Thank you for your support. Your comments help alot. Carolyn
  13. This is my situation. I work in a hosptial that has a weight loss surgery center. I am a cardiovascular tech, and my sister who an RN, also works in the same hospital. I was set to have the lap band, had no difficulties with insurance approval, and the cost to me was going to be very low. My sister interfered with my decision by voicing her medical opinion about the doctor performing the surgery. She wound up causing a lot of heartache and a fear so great that I was a wreck. However, I was still going to do this, and my husband asked me not to the night before surgery because of what his friends were telling him. Has anyone experienced anything similar to this?:help:

    Finally registered

Dear BaileyRex, I too am very private and I felt intimidated about posting. After you see the support and advice people give, you will not hesitate to join in. Good Luck!
  16. Thank you for your reply WASaBubble Butt. I felt that I knew what I needed to know about my doctor, however, my sister didn't like the post op care or lack of care given by this doctor.
  17. I also need to find a way to deal with the fact that due to this small hospital that I work in, practically everyone knows my business, and they even ask me personal questions about my surgery which is against hospital privacy policy. I am very sensitive and private about my weightloss and the surgery.
  18. Thank you for your support. I really appreciate it.

    Hello everyone...

Try not to worry. I had my psych eval a couple of weeks ago and it went fine. The psychologist wanted to determine if my view of how much weight I intended to lose was reasonable, if I understood that the weight wouldn't fall off overnight, and how I would adapt and cope with eating differently with the lap band. As long as you're honest with your ideas and feelings about life with lap band, everything will be fine. Good Luck.
