  1. I had the band for 2 years, went in for a revision on 9/11, woke up after a 5 hour surgery with no revision. The band had done to much damage. I spent 4 days in the hospital. Anyway, my doctor is going to do an endoscopy (probably sometime in Dec) to see if my stomach has healed and I could get the sleeve. I'm wondering if insurance will cover the sleeve as a 'delayed' revision, or if they will require me to do the 6 months of supervised visits? Anyone else have a similar story? What did insurance require?

    Band Errosion

I went in on 9/11 to have my band of 2 years removed and a sleeve done. The DR said there was a lot of scar tissue & that the band had erroded a hole in my stomach. I had to have about 10 stitches to close the hole. He did not do the sleeve. I had a tube down my throat for 2 days and still have a drain in my side. I'm still in the hospital (4 days later) so I guess it was pretty serious. Anyway, he said he does not recomend the sleeve for me, ever. Because the risks outweigh the benifits. He said there are probably some doctors out there who would do it, but he feels the stomach is never going to be strong enough for the sleeve. Needless to say, I'm depressed. Has anyone had something similar? And what did you do?

    Band Errosion

Oh, I know. I'm thankful that I'm here for my kids and husband. It could be a lot worse. I could have ignored my symptoms and not went in for a revision. I can't imagine how much damage would have been done 4 months down the road. Two years ago when I got the band, I researched and never saw any of the horror stories I see today. Does it make you wonder about the Sleeve though? Do you think that there will be horror stories years from now about the damage cutting 85% of your stomach out will do? I hope not, since my sister elected to have the sleeve a year ago and has been very sucesful so far. I'm am grateful the band is out, but also a little depressed. For now, I will concentrate on healing and maybe down the road I will be a canidate for the sleeve?

    Band Errosion

Let me know how it goes for you. Does your dr think he can do a revision on you? How bad was your erosion?
  5. I am about 6 weeks away from my revision surgery. I am sitting here at my desk two hours after lunch, feeling miserable. All I had was about 2oz of ground turkey with about 1/4 cup of greenbeans. It is stuck and is such a horrible feeling of pressure. This is nothing new, I have had this pressure feeling frequently, usually after eating protein. My question is: do you still have this pressure in your chest (that nothing will go down) with the sleeve?

    Uncomfortable Feeling

I have had all the fluid out if my band for a couple of months. It is prolapsed (second time). My revision is scheduled for 9/11. I was hoping that after I had healed from sleeve surgery that I wouldn't have that same pain in my chest when I ate.

    Waiting for insurance approval

I just called my insurance yesterday and they had no record of a revision request from my doctor. The doctors office said they would send the request again (thanks for letting them know). So now, the approval that I thought would only take a week, will be even longer. With my band (same insurance) approval took 1 month. I'm wondering I will have to wait that long for revision approval? How long did anyone elses approval take?
  8. I had my psych evaluation and nutrition appointment today. Now, my doctor's office will submit the revision request to my insurance. I'm hoping because my band has siipped twice that insurance will approve quickly. I could be sleeved as early as August (as long as there is not much damage after he takes the band out). I'm worried because I didn't do will with the band that I wont do well with the sleeve. It was nice to hear the psychologist say that I wasn't a faliure with the band, that the band failed to work for me. I keep thinking that maybe if I didn't throw up as often as I did that the band wouldn't have slipped. I was throwing up because the food (protien) wouldn't go down. I can't wait to be able to eat healthy foods without the fear of them coming back up.

    Any regrets?

I have had my lap band in for 2 years. After a second slip, that has not fixed itself, I am considering a revision to the sleeve. In the two years I have had the band in, I have only lost 40 lbs. I deal with heartburn, chest tightness, and all the other symptoms others have mentioned. I've met with my doctor and he thinks that a revision is the best option. I was wondering if there was anyone out there who regrets changing to the sleeve? No matter what I do, I know I want/need the band out. I am just worried that because I didn't have much success with the band, that the sleeve wont work either.
