  4. THe peole that tell you it is the easy way out have no idea what we go through by having surgery. You can not argue or convence them otherwise. The best tactic is to ignore that kind of talk and have satisfaction in knowing you are going to do what is best for you and your health. Having the surgery is the best choice I have made for myself and it is the first time in my life that I have felt in control of my eating. My entire life I never knew what it was like to eat only because I had to and not because some unseen force was driving me to eat more and more and consuming my mind with the thoughts of food. I will say that this has been the most rewarding weight loss of my life because I am confident I can keep the pounds off this time and that is driving me to follow doctor orders and do my very best. Just keep your head held high and be confident in your decision. Make up your mind to do this and do it the right way and you can't fail. Best wishes!

    Best and worst "compliments"

I work in an elementary school and last year I stood at the front door every day and saw the students as they came in to school. I also helped load many into cars in the afternoons and I have worked here for almost 10 years. At the start of this school year a couple of the students in 4th grade asked me who I am because they did not recognize me. I did change my hair a little too but nothing that drastic! I guess a 60 lbs. weight loss over the summer threw them off a little! Sometimes the most hurtful things are not something someone says. My brother, who was somewhat against my surgery, has yet to say a word to me about my success. He never called to check on me while I was in the hospital either.
  6. I also tried many times to talk myself out of surgery and ended up prolonging it for several years. In that time I yo-yoed and felt pretty miserable. I was sleeved June 12th and total (pre and post op) weight loss is 40 pounds so far. The best outcome has been coming off of my diabetes meds. People keep asking me what foods do I miss eating and I can't say that I really miss anything. I am satisfied with what I eat and although food smells good I know that I feel better now than food ever made me feel. As time goes on I am sure I will be able to add back certain foods as long as I am reasonable about them and keep to a plan. That seems much more doable than ever before. My main goal is to have alternatives when the food choice is not what I feel I require. Sometimes that means lugging my cooler everywhere I go or having things in my purse that fit my needs. I'm not afraid to sit in a restaurant with friends and eat something I brought in rather than something off of the menu. The main thing is that I DO NOT complain, whine or make a big deal about doing this. I make out like its fine and normal if someone brings it up and I let them know it is my choice. Then I focus on a good time in good company and I do not let the talk center around my smaller stomach. This new lifestyle is not meant to hold you back but instead it's purpose is to help you spring forward and give you a new focus. Best wishes on your path forward!

    Dont know what to do!

I do that too. Go online and get Unjury unflavored protein and add it to things. I like to boil an egg, mash it up and add mayo, mustard, vinegar and half a scoop of the protein. Of course I add it to pudding, soup, shakes and anything else I can think of!

    Swallowing Issues?

When I was discharged from the hospital they said if I had difficulty swallowing to call the doctor. Don't hesitate to call and ask your doctor!

    Had to do it:(

I had to break down and take Milk of Magnesia. I was almost a week with no movement and after I took the MOM I was two days of not leaving home. Now I'm all about the Colace! Hopefully when I get to eat something besides liquids and soft foods I will get back on schedule. I will, right?
  10. I had my sleeve and gallbladder removal Wednesday (6/12) and I have breezed through. In the hospital I had nausea when the gas from surgery moved around but haven't throw up yet. Yesterday was a turning point for me because I realized I could get my liquids in with no problem. The yogurt I was given in the hospital was diluted with milk so that is a smart option if you want to keeps things a little more like liquid. Also, unflavored protein in broth and condensed soups is great. Last night I had broccoli cheese soup that I puréed in the blender with milk and unflavored protein. Best thing I've eaten yet! It felt like "real" food! My NUT's advice was to go slow and don't push or overdo things so that's what I am striving to do. Yesterday we attended a party for a friend and everyone there was astounded that I had surgery only a few days before. I felt great and I'm losing about a pound a day. Best wishes to everyone!

    Liquid Diet

I buy Premier Protein from Costco but you can also get it at Sam's Club. It is sooo good but I've only had the chocolate flavor. They have 30 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat and 5 carbs. If you get lots of protein you won't be as hungry. Mine is a 2 week liquid diet pre-op but I can have greek yogurt so that helps. Keep up the effort because it is worth it!
  12. I am a little over a week in and it's not that bad. I bought Premier Protein drink (chocolate) at Costco and I love them. They are like chocolate milk to me but have 30 grams of protein, 3 grams of fat and 5 carbs. My prayer is that I will still like them post op. I eat (drink) chicken broth and Greek yogurt plus some jello. So far I've most about 10 pounds and I am already feeling better. My sugar levels are great!

    pre-op liquid diet

Day 7 of the liquid diet. I started a couple of days early because I was off work and thought it would be better to start while I was at home. I really want to chew something! The plus side is I have lost 9.5 pounds!! Today I bought some really great protein drinks at Costco. They taste good and they have 30 grams of protein each.

    June surgery dates

June 12th!!! I am so ready to get the surgery part behind me. The liquid diet is not as bad as I thought it would be and I'm feeling confident that I can do what it takes to be successful.
