I know, as many of you pointed out : ) that these pictures are bad, but it is a start. I will post better ones before my surgery.
  2. Sorry, y'all! Idk why my phone posted that multiple times. ~ L Nor in TX
  3. Just fyi...I was referred to Dr. Chris Cottrell here in Dallas by another VST member. I had my consult yesterday. I really like him, I know the surgeon that will assist & love the hospital where he will operate. I am only self pay for the sleeve part, ins will cover hernia. He is only charging me $2500. I don't know where you live, but thought I would throw that out there in case it helps anyone! ~ L Nor in TX

  10. Actually, I take damn good pics with my Samsung camera...posting these low quality shots was a big step for me. I am doing things for myself now. Thanks for speaking out for the professional photographers, though..that was real helpful. ~ L Nor in TX
  11. I agree with needing better shots! This was kind of a big step to post those. I would be lying if I said I didn't make them obscure on purpose! ~ L Nor in TX

  14. Hathery, I knew that I had a hernia because I started having really bad heartburn and went to a GI doc and he did an endoscopy. This was about 18 mos ago. I have to take ppi's daily. Many people have no symptoms from the hernia. Odds are good that you have one. I visited another surgeon yesterday. He is repairing my hernia and doing the sleeve for less than $3000. Don't give up!!!!! Lori ~ L Nor in TX
  15. Yes, he is! I just got home from.Baylor. Dr. Kuhn operated on my mom this morning. Sleeve & hernia repair. He is so great!! ~ L Nor in TX
  16. Hathery, My insurance excluded all wls as well. I have previously been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and it's repair is covered. I called a surgeon here in Dallas TX...Dr. David Kim, and his office verified my benefits and said that since the hernia repair is covered, my portion to pay for ths sleeve will only be $5800. It is very possible that you need hernia repair as well. I have a consult Friday! I know you will find a way to do this for YOU! Lori ~ L Nor in TX
  17. My goodness!! I need to turn this auto correct off!! Fee, not few! ~ L Nor in TX
  18. Well..my surgeon's office called and said it would be $4500 for his few and $7500 for the hospital's fee. I don't get it! Maybe some of you healthcare professionals could explain. My insurance company will already be paying for OR, anesthesia, etc. associated with Hernia repair. How can it be so much more to add the sleeve? ~ L Nor in TX
  19. Yeah! Mexico is closer..lol! ~ L Nor in TX
  20. Thanks, Museum-Mama I am really hoping Dr. Kuhn's office calls me back with a price more like that. Mexico would be $4700, plus airfare (Dr. Garcia) but I would rather stay here in Dallas. ~ L Nor in TX
  21. Carol, Where is this surgeon? ~ L Nor in TX
  22. I meant to type "mom's" Not whatever that crazy word is....auto correct! ~ L Nor in TX
  23. I have a message into the surgeon who did my dad's sleeve & will do my nor'easter next week. Initially, via email, his Billing dept. quoted me $12,500. (that is the self pay price for anyone) Surely it will be less seeing how the extremely similar surgery & everything associated with it (hernia repair) is already covered. Crossing fingers!
  24. Hello! I am 37, in Dallas. 5'5" 200lb. My husband is a Teamster and we have excellent coverage thru BCBS of Illinois....BUT...all WLS are deemed cosmetic and are excluded. Here's my question: I have a documented hiatal hernia, been on dexilant for the past year. My insurance will cover hernia repair at 100%. I am thinking it should not be the entire self pay price to get sleeved along with hernia repair. Has anyone else had a similar situation? ~ L Nor in TX
