  3. Hello, my name is Diana and I just turned 30 this past December. I've been going back and forth about having surgery for almost 2 years now. I originally was considering lap-band last year, but after attending a seminar with a local surgeon I quickly realized that it was not for me. The thought of having something plastic inside of me just didn't appeal to me, and also having to deal with a port. I have been overweight most of my life, with the weight slowly creeping up on the scale over the years. I'm currently at my highest weight. I have tried numerous diet's over the years, but just have never been successful. I wish I could lose the weight on my own, but I know that's not possible for me. I started looking into the sleeve after a friend told me he was going to do it. I went to a seminar with Dr. De La Cruz-Munoz @ University of Miami on March 26th. At the seminar they had people who went through the procedure (sleeve & bypass) talk to us and share their experiences. It made me realize that I was ready to embark on this journey to a happy and healthier me. I had my first appt last week with the doctor, and was very impressed with him and his office staff. Since I'm self-pay, everything is moving along pretty quick. I meet with the nutritionist on the 18th, start my pre-op diet on May 7th, and surgery is scheduled for May 21st. I haven't told many people, but I do have the full support of my parents which I know will be a big help, and also some of my co-workers know. I'm so thankful for this board and everyone who shares their experiences. I know that there are risks and possible complications, but I know the benefits of this surgery outweigh them. :)Thanks for listening!!
