  1. Going to have surgery March 29 with Dr.Garcia. Bought tickets last night and am flying in the day of surgery. I'm anxious but know this is what I have to do. I have 4 little boys, 1,2,5&7 and at 50 years old (yes, 50!) I'm having trouble keeping up with them. But mostly I want to be health to see my grandchildren someday. Right now I can barely walk from joint pain. Sigh. But I really feel hope. I'm really starting to mourn the loss of my relationship with food. I know it sounds melodramatic, but do you know what I mean?and although I have a partner who supports me getting the surgery I don't think there's going to be much help once I get home. What I get is, "I went on a fly fishing trip 3 days after I had my gall bladder out. Laparoscopic surgey is no big deal." This forum has been so helpful for me especially since I'm not telling anyone except one friend who lives far away-she has a lap band that transformed her life and is very supportive. I know that we all are struggling here in one way or another. Please know that I read your posts and am sending a hug your way. Deborah in Iowa
  2. I'm also requesting March 29 with Dr Garcia. If there's room on his schedule I'll be flying in the day of surgery around 11am. Do you know what the earliest time is on our discharge from hotel day? Alma told me I only needed one week of a preop diet, but I think I'll do two weeks anyway. Basically I'm already so anxious. Hope they have Versed in Mexico!
  3. I'm not telling anyone. My partner knows and I imagine my mother in law will have to be told. But no one else. This is MY struggle and my solution. I have tried every diet, lost, gained, over and over again. You know the drill. And my A1C keeps creeping up, triglycerides and cholesterol through the roof. This is for me and my little boys, and my grandchildren that I hope to have someday and would like to meet their grandma. I won't be able to handle any more well-meaning comments like, "but you look good" or "you aren't that heavy," etc. Or my favorite is, "have you tried diet and exercise?"
  4. When people in the hospital have trouble swallowing we add a powder called "thick-it" to any liquid. A more viscous liquid is easier to swallow and apple juice is viscous, too. And maybe the pectin in apples is soothing?
  5. Measureofme...love your story. You souns like a very brave woman and im hapoy eveything is going well I still haven't found a surgeon and an looking for the direct phone numbers instead of going brought brokers. Leo39. I also have a bunch of rug rats...boys ages 1,2,5,7....and I'm a stay at home mom and wondering how long I will need extra help around the house when I gt home from surgery. I just don't buy the line I've gotten from two coordinators "you can have surgery on Friday and be back to work on monday. " yeah, right Deborah
  6. Can you elaborate on your experience and give any advice? I'm still trying to decide between the sleeve and plication. Deborah
