APRIL 2013. Whooo's Comin' With Me!
Hello, my name is Stephanie - I just got my approval today I should be hearing from a nurse soon on a date. I'm excited and nervous. Ready to get this show on the road...although not ready for the pre-op diet :/ I guess I'm dreading the hunger most of all those 2 weeks. At least after surgery I won't get the massive hunger pains I will have those 2 weeks. I've been looking around on other threads and have seen some complain about how things aren't what they expected after surgery like hitting plateaus and such. Freaked me out a bit but I'm just going to take this journey one day at a time. I"m sure there will be some ups and downs. But I feel like every person has different reactions to such changes in their lives so I can't sit around and worry that MAYBE the same things will happen to me. I'm in this with all of you We CAN do it!!!!!

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
1st off I'm sorry I've been MIA!! It's been a crazy road to say the least! To make a long story short : My dr ended up breaking off from the group he was with and started his own practice with another dr. So....I got caught up in all that I could have just had my surgery by a dr in the 1st group but really wanted the dr I've been working with all along. The old office wasn't sending ANY info over from any of the patients that followed him so we all had to basically start over again with everything. I had to go meet the surgeon again and he had to make his notes on which surgery was best for me....still the Sleeve I had to call around to the Psyco and Nutri Dr to have my paperwork faxed to new office. Also had to get recommendation letter sent to that office as well. At this point I JUST got approval today for the surgery I'm waiting to hear from the nurse as to what the date will be for surgery and to make my pre - op apt. I'm very excited! The dr really helped to sooth my fears when I saw him the 2nd time. I took my mom on the 2nd apt with me so she and my dad could get a better idea at what I"m doing. Hubby went on the 1st apt with me. I was hoping I'd get more support from my parents of she could actually talk to the surgeon and understand everything. They seem to be better with the idea. My mom also told me on the way up to the DR that she had just been told she's diabetic My dad is too!!! I'm really hoping this encourages them to do something with their health! I'd love to see them both have this surgery but we'll see what happens with time and after they see how I succeed Soon I'll be starting this 2 week diet before surgery. What should I expect???? Thank you so much for all your support!!!!!!! I'm sure I'll be a VERY regular poster before long

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
Sorry for being MIA...all have been sick in my household the past month. So....I've done everything I need to do to get this ball rolling. Had my Nutri apt last week. Got lots of great info! I have a question...will my Drs office forward information to the insurance company or do I need to call to give the go ahead to proceed? Also....I'm starting to really get the worried questions/looks from the family mems that know about this. I've tried to calm their fears but not easy! I mean...here I am getting ready to have surgery so I need their support but instead I'm holding their hands through this :~/ Thankfully my hubby is my support but still...this is getting old with the rest. My mom went as far o say the other day...but our family always celebrates with food and that its a big part of our fams life. Also she's afraid its going to be too much of an emotional thing for me...when really I think its more of an issue for her. I told her...MOM...I can't keep living like this...I HAVE to do this! My dad hada heart attack at 42. My health has always been like his. Here I am 34 yrs old and fatter then he was at 42. She seemed to quiet down after I said that. UGH!!

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
traceyc - That's one of the things I've looked at when it comes to RNY or Sleeve. I know with RNY you are limited to the types of meds you can take. I don't think that's such a great idea for me at this point! I'm 34 and have a long life ahead I'm hoping and with the back probs I have I don't want to me limited with the meds....just in case! I'm going to ck the thread out you mentioned though Catracks - Wow!! So you walked most of the time after surgery??!! I've always been the type of person after having surgery that wanted to walk as soon as possible! I know the importance of that! It seems though from what you say you walked most of the time after surgery. That's great!!!! I have another question...I could call the office but maybe one of you ladies knows. I have done everything that needs to be done except the Nuti apt. That's at the end of Dec. After I do that is that when the dr send request to insurance company or do you think they've already done that?

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
catracks - I'm hoping I can get everything in I'm suppose too. I've heard you have to drink so many ounces every hour. If your napping did you wake up to drink or did you wait till you woke up?

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
vsg30815 - I too have PCOS. We went through 4 1/2 years of infertility treatments before having our little guy So; CONGRATS!!! We'd like to have 1 more if possible but are totally happy with our sweet Luca if he's all we can have. Much worse complications?? Can you explain? I'd like to thank everyone for all the support you've shown! I belong to other message boards and this by far has been one of the most supportive boards I have done what some of you have said and checked out Youtube. We have very slow internet where we live so I had to do it when I was in a faster zone. It was nice to see different people go through different weightloss options and to see how they progress. I've also responded to my friend... I basically told her that I'm going through with the Sleeve. I said that I appricated all of her input but I had done a lot of research and have decided to go along with what my surgeon recommended for me. That I understand everyone has different reactions to the different options out there but that it came down to how people handle the tool they've been given. If you go into it with your heart and mind set to winning this race then you will win! I've had major back problems. I'm actually on disabilty because of a injury in June of 2011. I used to be the person totally against weight loss surgery. Now I'm in the situation that I understand now why people decide on it. I also read once that if there's something out there to help people then why ignore it....do it to help your future. It would kind of be like not going through with heart surgery when you needed it. My fear now is the surgery :'( I'd have back surgery any day over this surgery!! I'm so affraid!! Like I said...I have a 3 year old and a hubby who need their mama/wife. I can't leave them :'( Can you all tell me what to expect?? Thanks again for all the support!!!!! Steph

Sleeve Verses Rny - Friend Pleading That I Shouldn't Get Sleeve
Hello My name is Stephanie and I'm new here. I"m looking forward to getting to know all of you I've done everything I need to do except my nutrisionist apt which is scheduled for mid Dec. I'm planning on having surgery in Feb. We are going on a vaca at the end of Jan so that's why I've decided on waiting till we get back. At that point I can totally focus on myself and nothing else. I have a friend who had the RNY several years ago. She is her surgeons picture perfect patient :/ She's been telling me that her surgeon doesn't even perform the Sleeve because of the major problems that come along with it. So of course this is scaring me to death and making me feel like maybe I should get the RNY. She's also telling me that if I ever got esaphgas or stomach cancer I'm pretty much screwed. I'm a cancer servivor so this is a concern of mine!!! She sent me the following pros and cons list. Here are my list of pros and cons Gastric Bypass Faster weight loss Higher complications Reversible Less likely to regain Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy Slower weight loss Less complications Not reversible Higher chance of regain I'm getting very nervous and feel like I'm making a horrible decision in getting the sleeve. Although when I read this site I see a lot of good stories from people. I know with any surgery there are risks. I also know that there are also different outcomes for different people. I've done a lot of reading on RNY and Sleeve. I don't like the idea of having things rerouted but then again I don't like the idea of having my stomach cut out :s My surgoen does RNY but dosesn't like the Vitamin issues people tend to have after. That worries me too about the RNY. I worry about the long term issues with Sleeve. I know staying this way is a death sentence but we have a 3 year old little boy whose the light of our lives. I can't imagine not living a old life and not being there for him. Also we'd like to have another child but that's another story! My husband is supportive but doesn't really talk too much about it. My parents are scared to death to say the least so I don't really feel like I can talk to them and they understand. So of course this friend I have talks to me about it but I feel like she's confusing me even more. I've had 2 back surgeries with the last resulting in fusion. I've still got a lot of issues with my back going on so I'm unable to really get out and exersize at the moment cause of the pain I"m in. I know I need to do something about my weight because it's not going to happen on it's own and I can't seem to do anything that really gives long term results because of my disability. Please can someone help me with my fears and questions?????????? I'm really confused, nervous and scared ;(
