  1. I just want to know where everyone had their surgery (or will have), how much they paid, who the surgeon was (or will be) and what your overall experience was and how you are doing now. I really wanted to stay here in the states but couldn't find an affordable option here, I did lots and lots of internet reasearch. I paid for my own surgery, no insurance. I finally settled on Dr Ismael Cabrera and Dr Louisiana Valenzuela (they perform surgery as a team) at Hospital MI Doctor in Tijuna, Mexcio. Everything was great, I was very pleased. The only thing that could have been a little better was some of the nurses could have spoken better English or in a few cases any English. The doctors and important personel all spoke really good english or good enough to communicate well. The facility was very nice, they call it a hospital but I thought it was more like a Sugery Center than a hospital, well at least compared to hospitals in the US. It was new, very modern and squeaky clean, exactly like the pictures. I paid $4500 for the surgery, total with other expenses like passport and airfare I'm into it for around $5300. I'm a 43yo 5'7" white male. I had surgery on Jan 10th 2013. I started out at 246lbs at the start of my pre surgery low carb diet (12/27/12, 2 weeks before) As of today 2/16/13 I've lost 38lbs, I've been in a little bit of a stall only lost 1lb in the last 7 or 8 days but i don't expect that to last too long and I knew it was coming. No complications at all and it's been one of the best decisions I've made about my health. I've struggled all my life with my weight and eating too much. I feel 1000 times better.
  2. I'm two weeks out yesterday had my surgery on the 10th. I started my presurgery diet two weeks before. It was a liver shrinking diet the low-carb diet I was told to stay under 40 or 50 carbs a day I stayed under 20 or 30. It was probably the best thing idea did for my surgery after about a week I started feeling great I actually lost 15 pounds in those two weeks I lost a total of 28 pounds so far. I'm actually convinced I could've lost a bunch of weight just the low-carb diet by itself. I was always too scared to do the Atkins diet or the low-carb diet goes I love carbs so much especially bread and pastas. I suggest you start your presurgery diet two weeks in advance not one week and you go overboard on the low carbs. I talked to my surgeon after the surgery and asked him about the presurgery diet he couldn't stress to me enough how much easier the surgery was by having a shrunken and not fatty liver to mess with. I don't know what kind of surgery you are having, well I know it sleeve but are they doing one large incision or they doing laproscopic surgery? I had the laparoscopic and there were five incisions and they really haven't hurt at all they are little tender but that's it. Three of them are about 3/8 of an inch long in the other two are about 1 1/4 inches long My surgery was on a Thursday I felt great by Saturday. Didn't get home until Monday night but I easily could gone back to work Monday morning. I did go back to work a little bit Tuesday, but by Wednesday I was climbing on roofs again. I don't think you have anything to worry about first far as recovery I think in a couple of weeks you will be able pick your kids up just fine. They say the low-carb diet works and I believe them and they say that it takes away your hunger I believe that to. Probably the worst part is I'm a little tired every day I think that's because I'm on 600 to 900 calories every day and my body's natural response is to want to sleep to conserve energy. I don't have any problems drinking I just have to drink kind of slow I am getting tired of the protein shakes but I just keep telling myself get by these first six or eight months then I'll be back to regular food. I tried a little soft food but I'm not ready for that so I'm just going to stick to the liquid only diet. I've been drinking soups run through the blender, which are okay but again getting kind of tired of them. I just can't wait till i've lost 60 or 70 pounds I used Dr Ismael Cabrera and Dr Louisiana Valenzuela they are a team which does surgeries out of Tijuana Mexico at hospital Mi Doctor.
