  4. @candy1980- oh dear god! It sounds horrible! Im sorry you had to go through that. ....so what can I do to avoid it? *Jess*
  5. @Candy1980- Were your experiences as bad as what alot of people say? The sweating, throwing up, diarrhea, horrible pain? *Jess*
  6. Doesnt sound fun The dumping syndrome they discribed in my support group here where I live they said that people end up in the hospital its so bad. I hope I never have to experience that! So are people typically more constipated after this surgery rather than having diarrhea?
  7. I am reading this document that my doctor requires me to read and sign before surgery and it lists the risks that are involved with the surgery and side effects afterwards. It mentioned something about dumping syndrome...I didnt think people had that with this surgery? I thought it was only with the RNY? Can someone elaborate on that for me please? Does it really happen to sleeve patients?
  8. @Kalimomof3- Yes that makes perfect sense! I figured that was probably why. Well I hope to god I dont have it with my next one because it wasnt fun at all!
  9. Hey everyone! I wanted to give everyone the information on the Walk From Obesity in Lansing MI. I know some people were waiting on the details. Registration starts at 9 am Date: September 22nd 2012 Walk begins at: 10 am Location: Potters Park Zoo in Lansing MI On Site registration fee: $35 Online Registration fee: $25 Site: www.walkfromobesity.donordrive.com/event/lansing2012 This walk will accommodate 1, 2, and 3 mile courses. It is through the Zoo which is nice you can look at the animals while your walking or running. The awesome thing about this walk is they do it to raise money for people who need these types of surgeries done that cannot afford it and have no insurance. Its amazing...these people are getting the second chance they never thought they would have. Spread the word to all of your friends and I hope to see you there!
  10. @Des0520- Yeah I am not sure why they wouldnt because I have no health problems either. But I had a very high risk pregnancy with my daughter. I had high blood pressure...never had pre eclampsia but 1 week after I had my daughter I got full blown eclampsia and was rushed to the E.R and they drained 26 pounds of Fluid of out me. I could have had a stroke. So that could be their reason why...because I may be at rish for it agaIn. Can someone tell me what PCOS is? Like I know what it stands for but what is it and how do I know if I have it?
  11. This is the one of the reasons I am having this surgery done. I will be having the surgery in exactly 40 days from today. I have a four year old daughter who I got pregnant with my senior year of highschool and I was on the birth control pill. Last march in 2011 my husband and I started trying for another one, even though we knew my weight was the highest it had ever been. So I started on weight watchers while we were trying and lost a little here and there but nothing consistant. I tried everything possible to get pregnant...stopped smoking, ate healthy, stopped drinking, used a basal thermometer, etc. This march in 2012 I went into my OBGYN to talk to her to find out why it wasnt happening and she said it definitely could be due to my weight. I asked about some kind of fertility pills or something I could possibly take to help it along. The response I got was that I needed to lose about 100 pounds before they would even think about giving me anything like that. I was devastated. I didnt want to wait any longer... my daughter was starting to get older and I didnt want my kids that far apart. I have started to accept the fact that I will not have another baby for at least 2 more years because of surgery and Im okay with that. It actually is going to work out great because by then my daughter will be in school full time and itll save me on daycare exspenses. So hopefully it happends after im cleared by my doctor to go ahead and start trying.
  12. Mommydearest74- Thanks! I hope so too! lol
  13. Thats really exciting! Congrats and goodluck!! My surgery is coming up the end of september and I am starting to get really nervous.
  14. Thanks you guys! I really think I am making the best decision for myself. It looks like you both have done a great job! Im a little nervous as its getting closer. Im not so much nervous for the surgery itself because I have had surgeries before....its the after part where you have to re introduce food. Im scared i might get sick.
  15. I have been going back and fourth between the sleeve and gastric bypass and today after reading a ton of info and stories on here I decided to go with the sleeve. Im very happy with my decision...so far...hopefully I feel that way after surgery in september as well lol. From what I've read on here everyone seems to be pretty happy with it. *Jess*
  16. Hey everyone! Im new to this site and live in michigan...saint johns...small town 30 mins. North of lansing. I haven't had my surgery yet its going to be on september 24th. Also just wanted to let everyone know there is a walk for obesity at potters park zoo in lansing on september 22nd if anyone wants more details on it if ur interested in walking in it. You can do 1,2, or 3 mile walk and its thru the zoo...u can register online but im not sure what the cut off date is online or pay ten dollars more to register tht day. Its 25 or 35. But what it does is helps raise money for people like all of us that need these kinds of surgeries done but cannot afford it. Let me know if anyone is interested. *Jess*
  17. Thanks a bunch everyone! Pdxman...just letting u know that ur stuff isn't showing up in ur signature lol... but anyways thanks for the advice and info. It feels good to be getting so much support. I can always use more friends to talk to lol....mine are all super skinny and hot and don't understand what im going through...but definitely are supportive of w.e my decision is. *Jess*
  18. Hey everyone! I am 22 and will be getting it done 2 days before my 23rd birthday so I will be in the hospital on my birthday but what a great gift right? To be getting my life back good luck to everyone else! Its really nice to know other people around my age are getting this done as well...I was very concerned that I am to young to be going to this extreme but honestly...I couldn't be happier!!
  19. I am scheduled for september 24th....still going back and fourth between sleeve and rny but I have basically a week to make up my mind.
  20. Thanks everyone for the advice and sharing your thoughts and stories, it means alot to me. I guess im just so lost feeling now that she brought up the sleeve and I've tried to do research on the internet but you never know what you can believe on there. When I first started this journey I was told by a dietician that ran the informational session that the sleeve was for very large people that were 400 or more pounds...so for me it was not an option. My surgeon actually rolled her eyes when I told her that and was mad that the weight management center is telling people that. I feel like I absolutely need this surgery but im scared...im so young and I feel like not a lot of people my age are doing this and its scary. Can someone answer a few questions for me maybe? Can you take excedrin migraine when you have sleeve done? Bc I know with rny u can't and I have horrible migraines. Also, what is the average amount of weight loss per week? Do you absorb nutrients with the sleeve ..like with the rny you don't absorb very much. Last question....can someone tell me what the surgery process is like? And how painful is it? For the women out there that have had a csection...is it that painful? Because alot of people I've talked to said its as bad as having a csection and let me tell ya...I thought I was gunna die after my csection lol. But....I don't tolerate pain very well. Sorry im asking so many questions...im just super crammed for time to make a decision. Thanks so much again!
  21. Sdb1147- thank you for sharing and I wish you the best and hopefully it does cure your diabetes! I actually have a lady in my support group that is local to me that had her diabetes cured by having RNY. That was another main reason my surgeon said to go with sleeve instead of rny. Goodluck to you!
  22. Hey everyone! I am new to this site...I have been a part of the RNY talk for about 4 months now and love it. Through this whole process I was positive I wanted the gastric bypass until I got to my appointment and my surgeon said she thought the sleeve was a better option for me bc I am so young there's no point in cutting my intestine. If anyone could give me any information or tell me ur success story would be awesome...I have to make a decision in the next few days and I feel like im going into this blind now because I don't know anything about the sleeve.
