  1. I am a Catholic who was confirmed in 2010. One of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that is received during confirmation is the gift of Wonder and Awe. Through the process of deciding whether or not to have surgery, I kept praying to God to give me a sign if this is what I was supposed to do. I pray that He helps me get healthy so that I may serve Him better. After contemplating for three years and praying on it for a year, I took the leap of faith on April 29th and began the long process of doctor visits, thinking I may be able to have the surgery in July. I work in a school and have good insurance, but found out that my insurance is changing July 1st and that if I didn't have the surgery by June 30th, then I may need to wait another year. While the surgeon's office did not think this may be feasible, I told them that I was going to actively pursue it anyway. The Grace of God has been with me. Initial appointments began to open up and I was able to get all the required visits in and meet again with my surgeon on May 30th. I prayed the Hail Mary over and over the morning of the 30th. I asked God that if He should see fit to have this surgery, to please find a way. I told Him that I would willingly accept His answer if the answer was 'No'. After my surgeon told me that I could go ahead and proceed with scheduling surgery, I dropped the bomb of my deadline on him. As he listened, he began to quietly scroll through the calendar on his smart phone. He told me that he was going to be away from June 18 - July 4th. I sat in anticipation... then he said, "June 12th". Really? He said that for some reason there was an opening on his calendar that should not be there. I told him I knew it was there because I prayed for it... as unbelievable as it was. He left the room to be sure that his staff had not put anyone else there and I began to cry. The Wonder and Awe always strikes me with amazing gratitude and my husband and I just thanked the Lord for His blessing. God gave me the sign I had been looking for. While I worked for it too by planning and completing what I needed to do, in the end it was He who made it possible. He really is amazing and it amazes me how much He loves us. God is good. He is very, very good.
  2. Being short and fat has been an exceptional challenge. The wider my waist had gotten, the more difficult it is to reach things; up in the cupboards, etc. because my large belly reduced my arm's length by about 3 inches. Also being short, I think I have a short esophagus because I feel full very fast as it is, sometimes the food just feels stuck. But this is a symptom that started after my waist expanded. Has anyone else ever experienced this?
