Welcome to the world of winner's beating the weight issues. myself i had my VSG 3-2-11 and have lost 91 lbs so far. i live just down the road in Alma, and used Dr. Roller in northwest AR for my surgery. if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask. someone here has probably experienced the same issue. good luck and keep up the good work.

    Spouse not supportive?

both my wife and i have had WLS. she had RNY and i had VSG. and during both surgery's there was a lot anxiety about one of us possibly not surviving the operation. that is a real possible outcome, but you just about as likely to die in a car accident. the thing that you must stress to him is if you don't start this journey you will die years earlier than you would if you do. obese people are dying younger and younger these days. it is just fine to be selfish but its not just for you. it for you, him, your children, and your future grandkids. Our life has changed for the better since having our surgery's and yours can too. if he continues to not want to support you, don't forget you have tens of thousands of us out here to help support you. but when its all said and done his mind will change when 5 or 6 months after surgery he puts his arms around you and kisses you, then he picks you up and carries you to the bedroom. i know i felt like a teenager again when i did that to my wife after her surgery and now we can do all the things we dreamed about because we a physically, mentally, and with the money we have saved on medications and grocery's, financially able to do them. it isn't the easy way out, trust me it's not easy, but it's the proven and safest way. if that doesn't work have him contact me and i will talk to him because i have been there and done that.
  3. i just joined today. a little bit about myself. I am a 51 y/o married male that is a 7 1/2 year cancer survivor that decided if i can beat cancer then i can beat morbid obesity. i had my sleeve done 3-2-11 by Dr. Josh Roller in northwest Arkansas. i can't say enough about Dr. Roller other than if you need WLS and live anywhere nearby he is your man. in the 3 months since my surgery i have lost as of today 83 lbs. that puts me just 65lbs from my goal. In the last 3 months the changes in my life have been profound. simple things like looking down and seeing if your shoes are tied without having to move your foot forward, going to your favorite place to eat and watching the waitresses bringing out food for other customers and realizing that 4 or 5 months ago that was your dinner and how the hell did you eat all of that junk. i have cut out almost all of my prescription meds and haven't felt this good since i was a teen many moons ago. my wife is going through the same thing as she had RNY 3 months before my surgery. it has been a journey that has brought us closer together in more than one way. hey i can now put my arms all the way around her and clasp my hands. and she can do the same on me. the only down side has been both of us having to start replacing all of our clothes. and although expensive this is really a good thing that i will gladly pay for. But like a lot of you there is no amount of research that can truly prepare you for the changes to your life that VSG will cause. So as we go through this journey its nice to have a place to go and mine for more info to make the trip easier. So thank you for allowing me to join you here and if i can be of any help to someone out there just ask.
