  1. Like others, I didn't have insurance for VSG and have a lowish BMI. I looked at several US docs for self-pay. I found prices all over the place. I had a few offer to come down on their rates, but they couldn't do anything about the hospital fees. Those hospital fees kept rates high. I would have preferred to stay local to have local follow-up and support groups. But, I'm hoping that with Dr. Aceves, I won't have complications that need follow-up. Good luck in your search.
  2. I'm February14 with Dr. Aceves. I'll be arriving as you are getting ready to sail.
  3. Good luck everyone. Exciting times for all of us.
  4. I'm exactly 1 week ahead of you. I'll let you know how it goes. 27 days and counting.
  5. February 14 with Dr. Aceves. 27 days and I can barely stand the wait!!
  6. I am a surgeon (not WLS) and we always consider the day of surgery to be day zero. Day 1 is the day after surgery. But, Dr. Aceves has about the strictest postop plan I've seen. Most seem to go to full liquids right out of the gate.
  7. I'm scheduled February 14 with Dr. Aceves. Burying my head in the sand to avoid the fear whenever I think about it. But then, super excited that it's only 4 1/2 weeks away. My fee was $8750.
  8. February 14 with Dr. Aceves. Valentine's Day gift is the sleeve instead of a box of chocolates.
  9. I'm one week ahead of you in Mexicali. Can't wait. But, can't give you much advice since you'll probably be on your way by the time I know what I wish I had taken. Good luck
  10. I did the same thing. Went with a friend to a different doc in Mexico. We started with a similar "low" BMI and have struggled together with weight loss and gain for years. Watched her shrink and saw how it's working for her. Found Dr. Aceves through folks on the board. Have been talking with Nina via e-mail for a few months now. Just set my date for Valentine's Day. My gift to myself. Not telling a soul except my husband and my friend who had the sleeve. No one would understand. They all think it's about willpower and diet and exercise. Best of luck to you. Enjoy your travels and then best of luck for an easy surgery and speedy recovery.
  11. I have BMI of 30. I'm going to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali. A friend of mine with a BMI of 28 went to Dr. Almanza-Reyes in TJ.
  12. We'll cross paths just before I leave and you start the journey. Good luck.
  13. I'm going February 14. BMI 30 (sometimes 31 or 32). Happy Valentine's Day to me.
  14. I have a BMI of 30.2. I'm self-pay, looking at Mexico options. I have done lots of research and talked to lots of surgeons' coordinators. Most won't do surgery for BMI <32. One doctor is willing to do surgery with BMI of 30, but not 29.9. With a BMI of 26, you may not have much luck finding someone willing to do the surgery. To get to normal BMI of 25, you probably only have 5-6 pounds to lose. Best of luck
