  1. Does anyone know which papaya enzymes actually taste like papaya or fruit vs mint? Mint has always upset my stomach.
  2. I looked on Amazon to purchase some papaya enzymes and read numerous reviews describing them as "mint flavored" (and peppermint oil showed up on the ingredient list); while others did not list ingredients at all. So that's what prompted me to ask before buying.
  3. I absolutely cannot have a drink near me when I'm eating. I will take a sip or two before I even realize what I'm doing. I would love to drink while eating and I watched the video (thanks for the link), but I'm staying in this side of caution. Once this new drinking while eating rule is out for a considerable length of time, most docs are on board and it becomes the new norm, I may try it then. ---calling scaredy cat on this topic

Negative posts that plant the seed!!

Guy stated: The fact is the band is VERY high maintenance and requires much learning and attention. There's a lot to learn and aftercare is PARAMOUNT to the band's effectiveness. AMEN!!!!! If it was not for this forum and the wonderful posts & responses to questions, I for one, would be totally lost! I often cannot wrap my head around how these surgeons offices (mine included) do not give out more information before surgery and more importantly postoperative. It's like a big guessing game. I am so thankful when people pass along information for nutritionalists that really care, teach and support their clients (mine was useless). ....regarding the scary posts, I say a little prayer for their health and move on. Like others stated, if they cannot link their adverse risks & reactions to a viable reason, then how can we learn from scary? ...we learn from reasonable things like: explanations, diagnostics, trail & error, studies, facts...etc ------- To all those who have continued to stay active on this forum after years of success when you could have just moved on... my deepest gratitude....Thank You All! ------

    PBing

My post fill diet is also long: 3 days liquids & shakes 3 days mushies & shakes ....soft...then progress to reg diet It's like doing a 5 day pouch or post-op surgery diet after every fill.
  9. IF... I ever had problems w/ my LB I would choose sleeve/plication.

    Aspartame

Mio sweet tea is my favorite! Not sure what's in it but since using it I have doubled my water intake... so it works for me! I have also served it to friends, HA, and not one person has caught on that it is not real sweet tea. Trick: I keep a bottle in my purse and while out at a restaurant I will order unsweet tea then squirt some Mio into my glass.. um um good!
  11. WheelCrazy... why don't you try the 5 day pouch test, then gradually begin reintroducing foods back into your diet. I might help you feel back in control and during the pouch test remember all the reasons you got banded in the first place. ---just don't give up!

Anyone try 5 Day Pouch diet?

My post fill diet is also pretty close to the 5 day pouch test and since I'm only 10 wks post op I have not needed the pouch test. This is my post fill diet: ONLY liquids & Protein shakes for 3 days ONLY soft food for 2 more days Day 6 and later, 4-6 oz portion meals One minute per bite! I did pass the 5 day pouch test to a friend who had hit a plateau. She said it really helped but the first 2 days were very hard. It actually took her more than one try to actually get thru liquid phase. I also encouraged her to keep a food diary a few days prior to starting the pouch test and she was shocked at how many calories she was consuming; so you may also want to track your food. ----good luck
  13. SILENCE ... it's the best revenge! P.Thick you have better things to do, and no time for a recycled man! When you put your trash out for pickup, your not thinking they will store it and unexpectedly bring it back to you some day... so good riddance!
  14. I just noticed you joined in 2011 and have only made 77 posts.... I would absolutely start here and help those who are asking for: help, tips & guidance ...... and I'm one of those people, so start with me...lol!!
  15. Not in a million years!!! We ALL knew we were obese and if they do not ask for your help or your opinion, then just leave it alone. Besides this is not the easy way out; its still a huge challenge; takes lots of determination and dedication... and we all know if your not prepared, esp mentally prepared, there are countless mistakes and stories of self sabotage and failure. ----like I said... not in a million years I think your heart is in the right place (bless you for that) but try posting answers to the questions on this forum from bandsters whom are actually asking for help!
  16. Baked Salmon often when hubby is home (he makes it look so easy; it moist and flavorful... but for the life of me I just cant cook it: it just sucks)! I like the sweet & spicy tuna in the pouch. It's like 90 calories and I add about 2 TBLS low fat mayo. It keeps me full the longest. Also I marinate chicken breast overnight and cook them in the steamer; helps them stay really moist. I will do 3-4 breasts and after cooking weigh out 4 oz portions then ziplock them individually. Baked catfish is good but not as filling as tuna or salmon. Breakfast is either a Protein shake or scrambled eggs. My new favorite (a banded friend turned me onto) is jumbo lump crab meat! I add it to hummus, laughing cow cheese, scramble eggs, Soup, or just weigh 2-4 oz pure crab meat and eat....yumm 4-6 boiled shrimp keeps me satisfied for hours, but have to chew very well. Charbroiled oysters. (Seafood is a staple b/c I live on the coast) Snack: laughing cow cheese with cucumbers

    Do you miss favorite foods

WheelCrazy ... please describe "issues" you have with healthy food. I have only had 3 fills and have no restriction so this has peeked my interest.

    Do you miss favorite foods

Mis73 .... I was thinking the same exact thing! Why can't you eat veggies & fruit? Beer is empty calories AND carbonated! (.... Well not sure if its actually carbonated b/c I don't drink it, but people belch, it bubbles & foams)

    What to pack for surgery?

PILLOW for the ride home (to splint your abdomen, esp w/ bumps in the road). If you live a few hours away I would suggest bringing a cooler with a couple of drinks (Gatorade was nice & cold b/c my husband had frozen some the night before and they slightly thawed in the cooler..yum); also Protein shakes if ok with surgeon. Make sure your PAIN MEDS are filled PRIOR to leaving the hospital (I did not do this and suffered until the next night before we could get it filled) (also some pharmacies do not carry the liquid pain meds in regular stock). Also CVS sells ADULT liquid Tylenol; which is very hard to find. Dress for comfort and make sure you wear something that is easy to maneuver for potty breaks (nothing tight on abdomen). Stock up your pantry prior to surgery and make sure you have enough post-op food to make it at least a week. (Protein shakes, chicken/beef/vegetable broth, warm cup tea... were my staples wk 1). Gas-ex for gas pain... some claim it works... some not... but if your having lots of gas pain it just may make you feel better to take it (comes in ready melt strips). Ginger helps with nausea & soothes the tummy; try tea or suck on hard candy). Remember: No heavy lifting! Be prepared to walk walk walk (to reduces gas pain) have a path mapped out in the back yard or house that is free if objects because you will not want to trip, fall or pick things up out of your path. --good luck!
