6 days post op and wisdom tooth!
I'm 4 days post-op and am feeling so weak I can hardly believe it. For me, vegetarian broth is the only thing I can get down. I can't bend over because of the incisions, so of course I keep dropping things on the floor like there is no tomorrow. Get to a dentist before you progress to an abscess or something. Teeth are nothing to mess around with.

Sleeved on June 16th, having some issues
My Dr gave me an Rx for the nausea, and I had an extra day in the hospital because of that and other issues. I did have a rough time with the surgery. I got some vegetarian broth down a little while ago but I'm still hiccaburping after every sip. My Dr suggested the CPAP might have something to do with it, so i figured maybe someone else here also had a CPAP and the same issue. My Dr knows about these issues I am having but there isn't anything he can give me to treat my stomach turning at everything I smell.

Sleeved on June 16th, having some issues
I have a killer headache (it's not caffeine withdrawal) and every tiny bit of liquid I get down makes me feel full and then I have sort of a semi-burp. Sort of like if a burp and a hiccup had a little baby ... that's what happens after every tiny sip. I think it may be air from my CPAP because I didn't have gas issues after surgery. I used some Gas-X strips, but so far it's still happening. I can't go near my Protein drinks. I opened one up and I felt myself retch. I got down two sips yesterday and that was all I could do. Water with a tiny tiny bit of crystal light is the only thing going down. I'm going to try broth later today because I feel so weak and fatigued. I spent the first night after surgery heaving up red blood, then a brownish liquid that had a bloody taste, then by morning it was only white foam. After that, I am not planning on doing the slightest thing that will make me throw up. I got an Rx to treat the nausea, but that doesn't help with the everything makes me want to hurl side of things. Is this aversion to the smell of things like the Protein Drinks normal? How bad is it that I can't get them down?

How soon did you return to work?
I was sleeved this past Monday (the 16th) and I have to be back at work this coming Monday (the 23rd). I feel so weak, I don't know how I am going to manage.

Any June 16th Sleevers Out There?
I also was sleeved on the 16th. I couldn't sleep at all in the hospital. When I got home I took a 2 hour nap. Last night I slept for a few hours, but it wasn't really fitful sleep.

Psych Eval
The last couple of months before surgery flies by like a speeding train. I thought it would drag but it literally went by in the blink of an eye. Early on in the process time moved like molasses, but at the end, it was warp speed. It will be July 30th before you know it.

My VSG Journey Is Finally Starting
Best of luck to you. I'm 53 and it took me a little over a year for the whole process. Now I am getting sleeved in less than 36 HOURS. The last couple of months of the process zoom by.

First BIG emotional trigger since surgery!
I deal with difficult people (with no back-up) in my job all day long. One of the things I do is rephrase things in a positive light while finding something to agree on. Tell your children "There has been a little misunderstanding. When daddy and Tracy know each other a little better, of course you can hang out with them!" like it's the best idea in the world, and leave it at that. A really good hobby can take the place of food. Something that you don't have to go anywhere to do. Knitting, weeding a small garden, anything that you have to concentrate on. It helps if your hands are busy and not just your mind.

Introductions & important question - surgery without support
All my immediate family are deceased. I have some half-siblings that were not raised with me and I have no contact with them. I'm an introvert so I don't I don't exactly have a social circle, and I'm fairly isolated at work. I have one really good friend who lives about 1,000 miles away. That's pretty low support, lol. Yet I have no doubt whatsoever I can and will do this. It's for me, so I can and will do it for me. You have to remember that at the end of the day, it's your body. It's your "home", where your soul lives. It's up to you to do right by it, no matter what anyone else is offering up. YOU have to be supportive of it and take of it and care of it no matter what. I'm a really independent person, so that probably helps a lot, but even so ... you have to get your mindset to a place where you aren't approaching this with fixed assumptions, ie "people want me to fail". Maybe some of them do. If that's true, you can clean house when the time comes, but don't let that hold you back from doing what's best for you. There is a difference between good concern (This surgery sounds dangerous. I'm afraid for you.) which can be dealt with by providing facts and information and ulterior motives or whatever "Let's put it off for another year!" (We already did that and I didn't lose an ounce.). Maybe you will lose a couple of friends and have to find some new and more supportive ones or maybe they will adapt to the situation. Just don't stay fat and unhappy to keep other people comfortable. That's not being fair to yourself.

Is it Asthma, or the extra weight?
I had bad asthma as a 120 lb person and as a 248 lb person, it is unbearable. I find that the extra weight makes it so much worse. If you do have asthma, losing weight will help control it.

Showering after surgery?

Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
I called my surgeons office and they said Isopure would be an appropriate substitute, so I went to GNC last night and bought enough bottles for the first two weeks post-surgery. A lot of really good suggestions here for vegetarian/kosher options. Surgery is Monday, so I have a couple of weeks to check them all out and place a few orders and see which ones my taste buds like best when I get a couple of weeks out. I really want to thank everyone for their help and suggestions.

Scared to go to the gym
Don't be scared. I was in a LTR with a personal trainer for years and trust me on this, they are happy to see you coming. Contrary to what the commercials for the gym that serves pizza and doesn't want anyone to break a sweat would have everyone believe, gyms are pretty supportive places. You have no idea what any of those people looked like the first day they set foot in a gym, only what they look like in the here and now. One day you will be someone elses here and now. The hardest part about exercise is getting started. Once you get going, you will crave it. It's a really weird feeling, the first time you find yourself actually wanting to go to the gym and looking forward to working out. The first time you are in the shower and you are washing and you stop because you realize you just ran your hand over a real live muscle on your own body. I let myself go so badly for so many years and I am really looking forward to getting back in the gym after my initial recovery.

Does Vegetable Broth count as a clear liquid?
On my list of clear liquids, it's included.

Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
It's for the first two weeks post surgery, Clear liquids stage, not the pre-surgery weight loss stage. My surgery is on Monday morning. Sharpie, my surgeon doesn't have ethical or religious dietary requirements, I do. I'm going to see if I can get some Isopures sent overnight. They are clear liquid and Protein, so it looks like rthey will fit the bill. I called the nutritionist to ask, but I doubt I will hear back from her before my surgery.

Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
These are all good suggestions for Stage II, but Stage I has to be a liquid Protein in Water , sort of like those MIO squeeze bottles that you squirt the liquid in the water. My instructions say I can't have any shakes until Stage II. It's extremely hard to get hold of the nutritionists at my surgeons office. It took six or seven calls over a week and a half last time, plus a few e-mails. I can't believe I would be the first person in Northern New Jersey that they would have run across that has these restrictions. It would be like being surprised to find out there are Alaskans in Alaska.

Huge Emergency Issue. Proti-Diet liquid protein is NOT vegetarian/kosher and my surgery is Monday!
I'm supposed to have one "liquid Protein in Water - Proti-diet concentrated drink or similar" per day for two weeks following surgery (which is Monday) so I was online ordering them when I looked at the ingredients ,,,, and the very first ingredient is Hydrolyzed Gelatin. There is no way that is going into my mouth. Ever. I need another product. I've Googled it to death and can't find one. Help! There has to be one without this ingredient!

Romantic Relationship-Secret Surgery-Bad Timing
Life will be a lot easier if you don't make "rules" about what is supposed to happen to you. Seriously. You don't know if this relationship is going to last another hour, another day, week, month or a lifetime. Take it as it comes. You don't owe him anything right now, and that includes an explanation. This doesn't fall under the "honesty" umbrella. There is a huge difference between being honest with potential partners and telling people things that aren't any of their business at this point in the relationship. With time comes the right to know. You can deal with the food issues by simply saying you have some "dietary restrictrictions". Only the most socially clueless amoung us would press for the gory gastrointestinal details. If he turns out to be a LTR who can keep a confidence, then you can share appropriate details when the time comes.

Any June 16th Sleevers Out There?
Oh no! Put a spin on the delay, it's a jump start, lol. I guess the bright side is that every year from now on, your 4th of July celebration is going to have an extra special meaning. It's not like I can go out and buy June 16th decorations, right? lol

Showering after surgery?
How soon will I be able to hit the shower? I don't feel right without at least 2 showers a day so anything more than one day is going to be pure torture.

Any June 16th Sleevers Out There?

Ex-Friend Keeps Writing Negatively About Me on Different Blogs and Web Sites
I'm more than slightly amazed that you haven't disclosed your friends multiple mental illnesses and that you continue to try and make it appear that a perfectly normal person turned ariound and did this without warning. You knew what your friends rigid belief structure and mental state was. She's battling multiple serious mental illnesses and you know darn well this affects her behavior. Perhaps your "friend" wouldn't still be going on about this if you hadn't directed hundreds of people to her blog weeks ago hoping they would back you up 8th grade style. Just a thought. Perhaps your "friend" would eventually forget about this and move on if you didn't keep posting every word she says on various web sites. You keep doing what you want, but poking someone who is mentally ill with a stick so you can get sympathy is pretty low. Shame on you. When this thread finally runs out of steam and sympathy and another pops up on another board in a few weeks, I won't say anything. I'm done. I wish you the best.
