I'm a mom of 2 boys, ages 8 & 3. Married, and a healthcare professional in the Richmond VA area. I never really struggled with my weight until I got pregnant, and then ballooned up 63 lbs. Never lost all of the weight befor getting pregnant again. My highest weight was 265 at age 38. Turned 40, and started having hypertension, stress, and cholesterol issues. My mom had a heart attack at 45, and I didn't want to even consider that happening to me. So after a long talk with my PCP we started on the WLS journey in August 2012. I met my surgeon in December, 2012. Denied for sleeve, but approved for lap band. My ekg came back abmormal, which then caused me to get cardioligist approval prior to surgery, best appointment and lab work I have ever done. Considering my pre-surgical diet, i was definitely on track to a heart attack. Hyperlipidemia, etc. once i found that out, neither me nor my husband turned back.. My weight was 236 the day of surgery and I wore size 18w or 1X clothes. First week was tough, but I made it through and a averaging a fairly good weekly weight loss. I joined a gym, I do not eat any bread or pasta, and NO red meat. I continue with a protein shake in the morning, chicken or tuna salad for lunch, and salmon for dinner and 6 weeks out I feel better than I have in years. I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings, knowing I have control now of my health and will be here as my children grow older. Life is good!
