  1. Just his opinion. May be right or wrong. That's why I mentioned needing some studies to prove or disprove the opinion. That's how science works.
  2. Surgery on a Saturday?! Crazy weekend. Good luck.
  3. My surgeon was not impressed with single-incision surgeons. He basically said it's a gimmick and could compromise safety for minor cosmetic improvements. I would definitely like to see some studies in the future. I bet in 5-10 years when they have enough data we can see if the single incision is just as safe. Good luck.
  4. Check iTunes. 5K Runner is one some of my friends have used. It also posts to Facebook if you want it to, which is nice for encouragement and getting friends on board.
  5. Are you at goal weight yet? My program instructs 500-1,000 calories per day, mostly Protein, until goal. I'm not saying you can't go over that if instructed, but if you are at 1,200 that might explain why you're not losing or gaining. The post about Water retention also makes a lot of sense. Good luck.
  6. Ya, I hear ya, I probably shouldn't have added that commentary. Just seems that the goal of those "extreeeeme" workouts is to drop as much weight as fast as possible. But, again, you might like it. You might not. You might only be able to or want to do some of it. It will definitely get you in shape, no question. I know a guy at work who is in pretty good shape and P90X was kicking his butt for the first few weeks.
  7. I think there's an obsession with losing too fast. It's easy enough to lose quickly with the sleeve. Not trying to discourage you, though. No harm in trying and see what you think. I'm a guy, so I'm trying to bulk up while trimming down. That's tough, but I don't mind losing slower in order to keep my Protein up and my calories a little higher to try and gain some muscle. Good luck.
  8. I wonder if P90X or Insanity isn't too much if you're on low cal. Don't wanna burn up all of your muscle. Make sure to increase your protein intake.
  9. Varies by program. I had a pre-surgery class for 8 weeks with a group. I got a 3-day liquid diet. Others who didn't lose as much weight pre-op, had a higher BMI or who had more health issues had to do a 14-day liver shrinking diet.
  10. One stage or two? If it's two you'll be getting a sleeve first, might not even need the second part. I've been "thin" before, just looking forward to feeling more unlimited again in whatever I choose to do.

  12. Ever enter a Toughman? I might try some MMA once I'm in better shape, just for a workout.
  13. COsleeveDude... CO=Colorado, where I live, but not where I was born, hence masking my true origins... sleeve=duh (although tatts are popular around here, but I don't have any) Dude=I tend to call guys dude a lot, and COsleeveMan sounds like some lame superhero
  14. Running already, nice job. I started doing walk/spring/walk/jog intervals a couple of weeks ago. Basically walk, then spring, then walk, then jog (I would sprint again, but I'm too out of shape to spring more than once or twice). Doing some running makes you feel like you're really getting in shape. Plus it makes other workouts easier, and I can walk faster.
  15. Joining a gym at work is a good idea. I joined the gym at my workplace this week. I agree that public gyms can suck for feeling judged. I took the opportunity to do a lot of walking starting in April before my surgery, and I did all of it outside in my neighborhood or during/after work. As the fall/winter temps and weather roll around I will probably join a regular gym so I can work out closer to my house when I feel like it.
  16. I'm six weeks out and I do at least 2 Protein shakes per day, with the goal over getting over 100 grams of protein per day. I shoot for 500-1000 calories, depending on how I feel and how much I'm working out. I also do chicken breast, egg substitute omelettes, yogurt, turkey chili, tuna, baked fish (tilapia or salmon), shrimp, refried Beans, steak or bison, and a few carbs, fruits and vegetables here and there.
  17. I may get flamed, but whatever. I don't think there's anything wrong with eating a few Doritos now and then, if you can handle. Big IF. The idea that you can't have anything bad ever again is unrealistic. I was craving a cheeseburger. Had a few bites of one last week, haven't thought about it since. Until now...mmm...cheeseburger... But, I digress. Wait at least a few months before trying anything sharp like a Dorito. Good luck.
  18. Oh man, I must've had at least 10 of these in a day once or twice in the first week after surgery: http://www.target.com/QuickInfoView?partNumber=13353480&catEntryId=200352799&categoryId=240005&productId=200352798&overlayId=QuickView&validation=true&position=targetCenter&omnitureSuperCatgValue=&lnk=srch_qi_grid_1_2
  19. Say you're getting your gallbladder removed and use your medical leave. You'll want your vacation time to hit the beach when you're skinnier. Two weeks is probably the minimum for non-physical jobs. I took three, thought that was perfect. Good luck.
  20. How's your stomach handling raw fruits and vegetables? My program recommends waiting six months before trying raw vegetables. Can't believe I'm even saying this, but I'm craving an apple and a salad. I've had a few bites of things here and there and chewed them up well, but I haven't had a whole piece of fruit or a whole salad. Thoughts?
  21. Seems normal to me. The "cheats" are what get me. It's a lot easier to eat 6oz of something healthy than 6 oz of something questionable. One example is when I got a cheeseburger..don't criticize, I HAD to go for it, just a test. I had a few small bites and everything was good. A bigger bite, and at the point I was through maybe 1/4-1/3 of the burger. And one more bite just felt like it stuck right at the top of my stomach. And then I was fairly uncomfortable for the next hour or so. But, when I eat what I'm supposed to. Say, chicken breast, I may feel full, but I don't feel too full or uncomfortable.
  22. Well, except for allergies. Yesterday I skipped working out because my allergies were killing me. So today I was feeling guilty because I'm still not feeling great, but better than yesterday. I managed to make it all the way until 8pm before I decided I need to work out somehow, but without leaving the house. I just went old fashioned with 6 sets of body weight squats: 30, 25, 20, 15, 10, 5. http://www.acefitness.org/exerciselibrary/135/bodyweight-squat. You might be surprised at how out of breath you will get doing just simple exercises with body weight. I definitely was. I have this rule that helps me feel guilty, but not too guilty, while keeping me on track: it is okay to skip working out for one day, but not for two. And if I do skip one day, I have to work out at least the next two days in a row. Point is, we all make excuses for why we overeat or skip working out. And we really don't have any. It's okay to slack off and screw up some of the time, just not most of the time. Now that I did something today, I feel much better. And it only took me about 15 minutes to alleviate what would've been a few more hours of guilt before bed.
  23. Which medications are you on? My Protonix (Pantoprazole) acid reducer causes dizziness. I take it in the evenings after I work out so I don't kill myself. For me it just causes mild dizziness when I first stand up after sitting. I haven't noticed it any other time.
