Severe Left Shoulder Pain 1 Week Out--Anyone Else?
perhaps I didn't explain very well what I was talking about. This was my particular outcome from vsg surgery.......everyone varies. But I did have sharp pains in my back and left shoulder. Which is a sign. Perhaps I was quick to respond to this topic. This was just what happened to me personally. I responded because the severe left shoulder pain is a sign of the spleen issue. Just trying to help..........I will not respond to this issue anymore.

Severe Left Shoulder Pain 1 Week Out--Anyone Else?
Look up splenic infarction........and "rootman" you actually commented on a post from March 2011 on vsgtalk that was this very topic. It is not very common that you would ever know this happens, but it does happen to a select few of us. Depending on how and where your spleen is in conjunction to your stomach. And yes I am "offended" by the remarks that I may be naive or believe everything I hear.....which by definition is someone who is simple minded showing lack of judgement or information. I in fact read up on everything. I am very intelligent and do not appreciate the sarcasm from Wheetsin.

Severe Left Shoulder Pain 1 Week Out--Anyone Else?
just telling you what my Dr. said........who happens to be very trustwothy. And yes if you look it up it clearly tells says that 10 (or less) percent of your spleen dies off because it provided filtration to the part of your stomach that is cut away. which of coarse is not enough to worry about it not doing it's job. Are you a Dr? Or do you just know everything? the stomach shares a blood supply with a small portion of the spleen and stapling off the stomach cuts the blood supply to that part of the spleen as well; the spleen will scar and shrink down at that part, the rest works and not a big deal. But it can cause shoulder and back pain. It will also make your white cell count high and liver enzymes high. Look it up for yourself.

Severe Left Shoulder Pain 1 Week Out--Anyone Else?
My doc explained to me that when they do the final cuts on the stomach near the splene, that a portion of your splene actually dies off ( about 1/3) and you can actually have phantom pains from your splene in your shoulder. It can also be trapped gas. Walking actually did more for me than anything else to get rid of the gas! Hope this might help!

July Sleevers
That day 5 must be a doozy for everyone! I had the worst day ever day 5. They have changed my pre op diet around a little and I am doing so much better! Still very hard not to be able to join family and friends to go eat and hang out. However I have had 3 bridal showers and 2 birthday parties this weekend and it was HORRIBLE. I was so overwhelmed with hunger and the urge to binge eat I could have died. Then I was just pissed at the situation, that god made me fat and all of my skinny friends can eat whatever they want and never gain a lb. I am eating about 800 calories a day.....most of those liquid and I have gained 2 lbs! What the Heck! I have alot of mixed emotions about this surgery.I am excited for the weight loss and looking and feeling better, but I am mourning what I am losing too. I am scared to death. Which in turn makes me wonder if I have made the right decision in having surgery. So many thoughts...........

Hey everyone a question........I am having a really bad pre surgery diet day. I am very sad, mad, anxious and worried about the whole thing. I hate not being able to leave my house and be with friends and family.( We tend to eat to celebrate things in my family) I did not have to do a straight liquid diet but my dr has me on supplements (protein bars, broth, nasty cookies) haha! anyway I am beginning to second guess myself because I am having such a terrible time with the pre op diet! I am afraid that I will have regrets after surgery because I will not be able to do what I am used to doing, which is not an all together bad thing! At the same time I am completely uncomfortable being the fattest person at every function......everyone else is like a size 2-8. I hate the way I feel fat, but I hope I don't hate being thin at the cost of eating the foods I love! Help! Any suggestions or words of wisdom??? Does everyone go through this? And I feel like poo! No energy whatsover!

Things Couldn't Be Better, But Why Can't I Shake The Blues?

I know me too, I kinda want to have a last hooraaa, but I had to lose 10% of my body weight to be approved by insurance for my surgery. I did it, It was HARD....and I worked so hard to get it off I don't want to gain it all back. But at the same time I am wondering if I have to keep it off till surgery???? I would be soooo mad if I gained some back and it kept me from having my surgery!!!!! So when is your surgery date? I love the Fellow Virgo Sleever Happy early Birthday to you too!- July Sleevers
- Have To Loose 15 Pounds...frustrated
That is awesome!!!! You will do fine!!!! But it is frustrating.- Have To Loose 15 Pounds...frustrated
sorry, also.....watermelon and celery are natural diuretics, when I got within 5 lbs of my goal I ate this to help get water weight off. I hope this may help- Have To Loose 15 Pounds...frustrated
I had to lose 27 lbs before they would approve my surgery per insurance. I lost it doing low carb Atkins diet. It was very very hard and it came off pretty slow. But as soon as I ate any carbs it started packing the weight back on. Even if it was healthy carbs! I do not understand this concept, if we could lose the weight on our own we would not be having wls! duh! And if it is to see that we are serious about the weightloss and restricting ourselves, I can understand that a little more but really isnt looking into a very serious surgery and paying out a ton in deductibles and co-pays serious enough for them! I am very serious when it comes to my money. If I am gonna pay out money for something I am serious about it. I wish you luck!!! It is very hard, but if you want this bad enough you can totally do it! Keep us posted.- July Sleevers
- Whats Better Sleeve Or Ru En Y?
I to have been kicking around both possibilities for about 3 months now! I think like you, I am leaning towards sleeve. My doctor also threw out that he thinks that RNY would benefit me greater then the sleeve, because of my BMI being right at 50 and statistics show that people with a BMI of 50 or greater tend to lose more weight with RNY. However statistics also show that malabsorbtion and malnutrition are greater with RNY. And it is a difference of 75% weight loss with VSL and 85% with RNY...... which comes out to a 10 lb difference for me. (i am willing to give up 10 lbs. for a surgery i feel is safer) To be quite honest I am scared to death of RNY, in my friends that have had it more than half have had a very very difficult time. It is a very hard decision. I just have to have peace about the whole process and I don't have peace on the RNY route. I think we tend not to listen to our inner gut when it tells us what we need to do. I don't know what your faith is nor do I want to offend you, but prayer is and always has been my lifeline. The lord has never steered me wrong! I have been earnestly seeking his will for my life and this situation is no different. I am just waiting on him to lead me. Good luck! And I do agree, do not let your Dr. make this decision for you because he is more comfortable with one surgery.- July Sleevers
