I had my two week follow up with the surgeon. I only lost 12 lbs postoperative, and I am so disappointed. Although I have lost 25lbs in the last 4 weeks, those numbers sting badly. The surgeon said that I lost at a good pace, but I only see others talking about 20-30lbs in two weeks. Am I alone in the way I feel? I can't get over my feelings of failure. I have surgery and still can't lose weight.

My surgeon used surgical tape and glue.

I am from westchester county in NY and I agree we have some of the best doctors and hospitals in the country when it comes to bariatric surgery. I mean no offense to the other states represented on this site.

You will be fine. I also have a high tolerance to pain, I have had a knee replacement, and spinal surgery. I wish you the best on your surgery in April.

Doing much better. The surgery pain is non-existent, but still dealing with gas. I have not weighed myself yet. I am waiting to my two week follow up. I still have swelling and don't want to get discouraged. My brother-in- law is 7 weeks out and 50 pounds lighter. I hope I can have similar results.

Sorry to hear about the Aetna exclusion. I work for an insurance company which covered bariatric surgery, but still had to fight with Aetna for 18 months. I was denied twice and hired a healthcare advocate who reached out to sr mgmt and threatened to go to the media and sue. Got a reversal call in January and was finally sleeved on. 2/19. Good luck to you on your journey to getting sleeved.

Finally hired a healthcare advocate who threatened to go to the media and to sue them.

I was sleeved on 2/19 and no real hunger yet. My wife and I schedule my meals so I get in my daily amount of proteins.

Welcome and good luck to you. I hope your experience with your insurance company goes smoother than mine. I fought with Aetna for 18 months before being sleeved this month. Depending on your doctor, you will most likely being on liquids for two weeks post-op. You will slowly add soft foods (scrambled eggs, tuna, scallops, etc.) week three post-op. I had some pain around the incision site for a few days. I had more issues with gas pains than surgical pain. The gas pains were pretty brutal and usually last a week or two post-op.

I was sleeved on 2/19 and incision pain is not an issue for me. However, gas pains are still pretty severe. I am told that it takes a week or two to subside completely.

I finally got approval and was sleeved on 2/19, after a long fight with Aetna.

I was sleeved on 2/19 at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY. Still dealing with some gas pains, but tolerating the proteins just fine. I am averaging 65-75 grams of protein, but only about 32-40 ounces of liquids. It is tough trying to get in additional liquids when getting in my protein is my priority.

Sleeved on 2/19 as scheduled. A bit sore and the gas pains are wicked. I have been up since I woke up from surgery at 11:30 am yesterday. Due for my swallow test at 8am today. Can't wait to have a glass of water.

My surgery is scheduled for Tuesday 2/19. My wife is looking forward to the thinner me. We will be celebrating our 25th this year and she said I'll be wearing her like a hat. So, I hope all these posts about increased drive are true. However, either way I'll have fun finding out for myself.

Tuesday is approaching quickly and I am both excited and nervous at the same time. You would think this would be nothing considering this will be my fourth major surgery in 6 years. The three days in the hospital should be a snap considering I spent the entire month of October in the hospital after extensive spinal and neurosurgery. However, I am still a little apprehensive about going into the hospital for surgery again.

After hiring a healthcare advocate and threatening to sue, my 18 months of fighting with Aetna is finally over. Aetna reversed their denial and approved my surgery.. I am scheduled to be sleeved on 2/19. I can't believe it. I was denied twice by Aetna for being to healthy with no comorbities, but a bmi of 49.

I thought I was in this boat all alone. How are you progressing? I had my knee replaced in 2008 and that was quick compared to my spine. This recovery is torture. I am trying to get Aetna to approve me so I can take some weight off my healing spine. I am hoping to get a surgery date of late December early January before my short term disability ends.

I missed my last surgery date due to a hospitalization for emergency spinal surgery 1.5 month ago. I have now been out the hospital for two weeks and I am ready to get sleeved. I have approval from my neurosurgeon and the medical director of the bariatric practice. Has anyone had a similar experience? I would like to know how you dealt with taking the necessary painkillers and medicine with a reduced stomach capacity, and your mental state of mind.

Hi all, recovery has meant a lot slower than I expected and I am still using a walker to get around. I'm hoping to get sleeved in December at this point because I need to be more ambulatory before I can actually have the procedure done. Out of all the surgeries like that in the last six years, This has been the hardest surgery I have ever dealt with because I can't see the scar. With my knee there was this big bandage, that served as a reminder. With this surgery I have this 5 inch scar on my back which I have only seen because my wife has been taking pictures of it through the various stages of healing. I never realized how hard spinal surgery could be. Please keep me in mind guys, I haven't posted much in the last month because I really had a hard time dealing with my recovery, but still I am thinking about all my post and pre-op sleevers and can't wait to become one of the thin crowd.
