  3. :clap2: I totally agree...even though this will be my first holiday season with the band, I'm at good restriction now, have almost 6 months under my belt and feel so liberated from the urge to binge. I'm not saying I never have that urge, but now, I don't freak if I eat a small treat, because it's enough. PS...one meal won't undo 3 months of work...2-3 days perhaps...if you really dive in...but heck...the band is supposed to liberate us from the fear of food. It's a process...I still fall into that mentality at times, but over all...I feel SO liberated...and that feels GREAT!
  4. I could only vote on the "port side" as I've never had shoulder pain, but that wasn't an option in the pole... so my question...are you experiencing pain and trying to analyize it's signifance based on this poll? If so, I'd highly recommend talking to your surgeon. You may feel "silly" calling him/her about it, but in the long run, it's worth it for a little peace of mind. It's what you're paying for
  5. yeah, from what I understand, one of the new AP bands holds up to 14cc's so, 4.9 is comperable to 1.0 cc in a 4cc band or 2.5cc in a 10cc band...so it's no surprise you don't feel a lot of restriction. Hang in there...it gets better
  6. honestly, i think you're gonna be just fine. I don't know what's causing it, but I do recall having weird stuff like that happening for the first couple of months post-op. If it doesn't subside, I'd call the surgeon's office and leave a message for whoever's on call (my doc is always on call...he's such a sweetie). Better safe than sorry.
  7. I was OK with the article until the final three paragraphs...I was reading along, thinking to myself...what's wrong with this???? Then he trivialized and minimized our battle and chaulked it all up to "eat less and lose weight" DUH! What an asswipe! hmmm, I wonder if he can overcome his porn addiction, buy hanging a picture of a wrinkly old granny around his neck and look at that every time he has the urge to hit lolita.com!?!?!?!?! Again...I reiterate...what an asswipe!
  8. Altho I would hardly call 1400 calories a "binge"...mainly because I average 1200 per day and still lose nicely...the question of head hunger is a tough one...I agree with laurend...a big help is to not let that first sign of hunger go by unadressed. When I let myself get too hungry, it's not a good thing...I eat too much, too fast, get pain, pb, and it's just an ugly ordeal. Then, sometimes I have a while before my lunch break, yet get hungry...I feel guilty if I eat before "the appointed time", but now I've given myself permission to address my hunger and eat something small and nutritious at the first sign. Then I'm less likely to binge on junk food.

  14. lots of people have/had the same problem. Fortunately, my doc only required a liquid diet for 7 days prior to surgery. My friend, who goes to the same doc, complained to him about it and he told her not to worry about it! Dang was I mad! lol! Perhaps you should call the surgeons office and let them know what a difficult time you are having. Perhaps they'll modify it a little for you. If not, hang in there and start over with new resolve. Keep busy and pray the time passes quickly
  15. Don't wait two weeks! Being too tight can cause slippage or band errosion. I don't understand why a doc would put in THAT much fill at one time there is serious risk to being overfilled for a prolonged period of time.

  19. Just a word of caution...you may want to keep your cobra for a while post-op, because there are follow up visits and fills and such. Just a thought Keep us posted...we're routing for ya! :whoo:
  20. Mine's on my ticker...think it was 44 something... anyway...my DH started at a BMI over 60 and is doing GREAT since being banded. Like WABB said, if your doc doesn't want to do it, try to find one who will.
  21. I found that once I hit that 50lb mark, my losses screeched to a halt too. It only lasted a couple of weeks then it started coming off again at a good clip! I think A LOT of people hit a plateau of sorts at the 50lb mark. Our bodies are just adjusting to the radical change Yep, boost that Water intake and add some Protein. Also, maybe shake up your exercise routine a bit. You'll be losing again soon...hang in there

  24. yes it is VERY common to stall and feel hungry until you get proper restriction, which can take a few fills. It took me four fills to get good restriction. The first two months after sugery, I lost almost nothing. The last two fills REALLY helped and now I'm losing at 2.5-3lbs per week. Hang in there, it takes patience to get to that sweet spot, but once you get there, it's bliss! Oh and by the way, I can still have a slice of pizza or a triangle or two of a quesadilla...I don't get stuck on it, I get FULL. It's great! Take time now to concentrate on eating slowly and chewing well. The restriction will come in time
