Hi Debbie! I am doing alright. My surgery was a tuff one. Surgeon found a hernia and fixed it. Was in surgery for 2 hours. Nurse missed the mark on my pain and nausea meds so I woke up very miserable. Spent 2 nights in the hospital and was able to go home on Saturday. Everything was going well until Sunday. Woke up very weak and with blurry vision, then today got very sick and ended up vomitting. That was a painful experience! So now I'm on Zofran and Tylenol III. So far for me this has been a tuff go. Very sore and extremely wore out. But I will say I have lost 10lbs so far and I'm very optimistic that this will pass and all will turn out great!! :-) Thank you so much for thinking of me :-) How did everything go with your surgery? Are you doing alright?

    Vision after surgery

I just had my surgery on Thursday. My vision was fine until I woke up today. I am having a hard time seeing anything on the computer and phone. It is like my eyes can't seem to focus anymore. I am also a little on the dizzy side. I do hope this goes away soon! But I'm glad to see on here that I'm not the only one experiencing these problems.

Thank you Kerin! I was wondering how everything would go after surgery! I'm really looking forward to starting on my new adventure! Banding is Thursday!!!! I am ready to tackle the recovery and start fresh and begin a life where I am healthier! Tomosia I wish you the best of luck! That 3 months will go by very quick! I had to do 6 months of nutritional counseling with a physician! It flew by! I'm really excited for you! Keep me posted on how everything goes! Here for you!!!!
  5. Hello Everyone! My name is Andriea I'm 27, married to the most wonderful man for 5 years who is serving in the Air Force and we have 2 beautiful little girls. I recently after a battle with Tricare for almost 2 years was finally approved to have lap-band surgery! I received the wonderful news on Thursday and was told I would be receiving a call tomorrow to set up my surgery date! I have to say I am thrilled and looking forward to a fresh new start and finally having something that will help me to achieve my weight loss goals and keep the weight off! I have struggled with my weight for almost 17 years. Emotionally and physically I'm exhausted and after talking to a wonderful friend decided I needed to make a change in my life. My family has a long line of issues from Diabetes, Cardiovascular issues, cancer, etc. I am 27 years old and I need to do something to get this weight off and keep it off so I can not only prevent a lot of these concerns but also be healthy for my husband and 2 little girls. They are my world and I don't want to cut my life and time with them short. So here I am getting ready to embark on my journey with the lap-band! Any advice you can give me is very much welcomed! How did your surgery go? What can I look forward to once I have the band? Looking forward to meeting you all and chatting with you soon! Andriea

  7. Hey everyone, My surgeon told me he isn't requiring me to do the Optifast diet before surgery. Should I be concerned? Or has anyone else been told the same thing? Curious.....
  8. Okay thanks guys! It is so good to know that I'm not a lone in this! I was talking to a friend of mine who had lapband surgery 2 years ago and she was concerned as to why my surgeon didn't put me on this diet before surgery and it got me a bit concerned as well. So I thought I would post on here and see if anyone else had to do the liquid diet or not. Thank you all a ton for getting back to me on this! Really eases my mind to know you all didn't go through it and did fine with the surgery :-)
  9. Hi ElizabethAnne! Thank you so much for your reply! Currently I am substituting one of my meals with a Protein shake but am going to bump that up to two meals a day with a shake and a sensible dinner. I'm hoping that in doing so I will be able to shrink my liver somewhat and help the surgeon. Another worry I have is I'm only 4'10 1/2" tall and I'm concerned that he will have a hard time getting around in there and putting the band in as well as port placement. But hoping that if in some way I can shrink my liver before surgery on may 3rd it will help things
  10. Thank you again Mis73 :-) I very much appreciate all your advice so much! You have been a big help!

    Approved! Approved!

I know the feeling! I had to wait almost 2 years to get my approval! The day I checked Triwest to see if it had come through and saw approved I immediately started crying and calling everyone I knew!!!!! I'm so happy for you and wish you nothing but the very best on your journey!!!!
  12. Thank you Mis 73 and Sanction. I have been a little concerned and wanted to ask. Kind of scary thinking about all of it. Especially since I will be going in for surgery here in a few weeks. Want to make sure I know absolutely anything and everything that could possibly happen or that I might have to deal with. I know it does say that at some point the band may have to be removed. I'm just really hoping that won't be the case at all! And I'm praying that I won't have any complications either! Really hoping this will last long term for me :-) Thank you all again so much!!!
  13. Hi Everyone! My surgery was just scheduled for May 3, 2012! I'm very excited and also a bit nervous. Some things were brought to my attention and I wanted to ask and see if you all can maybe bring me some relief and ease my mind! I have heard and also read on the internet that there are a lot of cases where within 1-5 years people are having to have their bands removed due to erosion and deterioration? and also that due to the constant pressure of the band on the esophagus are getting cancer of the esophagus? Is this true? Do any of you know of any of these things happening or has it happened to any of you? Also I'm worried that the band might not actually be long term...any thoughts on that? I am a bit on the worried side right now! Any information or advice on these issues are greatly appreciated! Thanks!!! Andriea

    Starting My Journey!

Thanks everyone so much for your comments and advice! I definitely have been doing a lot of research on the band over the last 2-3 years when I decided to go for it. I have been to a seminar as it is required by my surgeon to do so, seen a psychiatrist, met with a dietitian, and completed 7 1/2 months of nutritional counseling. I even went to youtube and watched a full surgery :-) I am also happy to say that I have two of the most wonderful friends in the world who I have received lots of advice from as they have gotten the lap band and have kept me pretty informed every step of the way and have answered any questions I have had. I asked them literally to give me the good, bad and the ugly before and after surgery LOL I do have some more questions and I wanted to join a forum where I could meet others who have gone through the surgery and see what their experiences were and also to get advice as well! I understand that everyone has different experiences and I want to hear about them! A few questions I have right now are: 1.What is your diet like after surgery? 2. How long was your recovery? 3. I'm a little concerned that my doctor isn't having me do the fasting before surgery. Do you think this is a bad thing? I'm thinking about doing slim fast to help myself out but wanted to ask you all your thoughts!!! I really do appreciate you all so much! Thank you tons for the advice! Andriea

    New To Lapbandtalk

Hi Debbie! Welcome to lapband talk! I too am new to this and also just received my approval to get the surgery done! I had a battle with Tricare for about 2 years trying to get approved. The first time I was denied they said it was because I was 18lbs to lite and needed to gain the weight in order to get the surgery done. I was crushed! But I know in my heart that this is something I need as I too have had quite the battle with food and a struggle with my weight for 17 years now. So I kept fighting and ended up having to do the 6 month nutritional counseling with my surgeon and am now getting the surgery :-) I want you to know that I wish you the very best of luck on your new journey with the lap-band and if there is ever any way I can be there for you let me know!
