  1. After 6 long months I just got the call that I'm approved for surgery! I was really expecting the worst so I'm in shock. Very excited though! Meeting with my surgeon on the 19th and pre-op nutritionist appointment on the 25th.
  2. I know what you're going through. I am in the exact same boat as you. This waiting game sucks and in my head I keep going over all the things that could go wrong (rejection letter). I am irritated, emotional over everything and can't sleep at night. I think your feelings are normal. All you can do is try to distract yourself in the meantime. Go shopping, listen to music, exercise, etc.
  3. Thanks for heads up Twi. That is one of my fears. My doctor said she needed me to follow my diet strictly so she could see i was ready for the band, but you just never know. I have heard of some people here losing on the supervised diet, some maintaining and some gaining who got approved. I'm just really hoping for the best. :/
  4. I was in the same boat. I am also 22 and because of my weight avoided seeing my regular doctor like the plague. LOL. But I sucked it up because I knew I needed her sign off to start the process. Explain your story to the doctor -- and what you have done in the past that failed (like you I have struggled with this as long as I can remember... Every time I lost weight I gained it back and then some). Explain how you think this surgery can help you. My regular doctor was understanding and signed off. However, the bariatrician I saw in my very first appointment was a JERK. She was negative and because of my age, all but told me I'd fail. She tried to disuade me but throughout the 6 month supervised diet, that motivated me to prove her wrong. Down 30 lbs and i havent had the band yet. Just know it is a possibility some doctors may try to sway you against it because you're young. But don't give up!! You can do this.
  5. Congrats, Jim! I'm happy for you. After a difficult road to approval you must be relieved. My doctor submitted me to insurance on the 28th as well. They said it will take two weeks to hear back. For the first time on this journey I am an emotional wreck. Irritable, anxious and barely sleeping (but also excited). Is this normal? Haha
  6. Hi Kim! Welcome. I am in the beginning stages as well. Just completed my 6 month supervised diet and am now waiting for insurance approval. I know it can be daunting but the months will fly by! We can do this. All the best on your journey.
  7. Congrats!! I am BCBS as well and am awaiting approval. My dietician said it should be about 2 weeks.
  8. Thank you so much for the welcome, ladies!
  9. Hi all, I am new to the world of lap band and am looking for some support. I've been lurking here for about a year and have learned so much about the band from reading your experiences. I am 22, from MN. I started this process 6 months ago... My insurance required a 6 month medically supervised diet. Ive lost 30 lbs since then and I have my final nutritionist appointment on the 27th. I am so ready to submit, meet with my surgeon and get my surgery date. It's been a long road but now that it's becoming *real* I am a complete nervous wreck (excited too).
