Being Vegetarian
Yes, I've thought about it. I don't think I actually would go vegetarian, but eating certain types of meat is a pain in the butt now. I used to love beef before my surgery but now there's always gristle and it takes forever to chew down. I stick to chicken and fish.

Sit Ups
I am almost 4 months post op and am still scared to use my ab muscles too much. Which I know doesn't exactly help them get stronger. I am just so scared of pulling or doing something to my port. I still get discomfort near my largest incision if i do sit ups or twist wrong. Maybe I should look into alternative ab exercises.

Do I Need A Referral?
Welcome! I'm going to apologize in advance for my long winded answer. haha Every hospital is different. I'd recommend starting by going to an info session. At my info session they gave me a big packet where I filled in probably 10 forms about my medical history and mailed it back to the bariatric dept at the hospital. After review they set you up with an appointment to see a bariatrician, nutritionist, psychologist, get some basic labs and sleep study (this is all done within a couple hours). After all that I had to set up an appointment with my normal doctor because they require your doctor to sign off on you pursuing the surgery, and they wanted my doctor to do a physical. Next, I met with a nutritionist once a month for 6 months. My insurance required me to do that. Once completed they submitted my information to the insurance company for approval. Meeting with the actual surgeon is the very last step of the process, after you are approved. Sorry... I hope that makes sense. Start with an info session and they will get you started! Often the sessions are run by actual lapband surgeons at the hospital so you will get a chance to talk to them there.

Excited And Nervous...
Love your attitude!! This is the best thing you could do for yourself and your family. It's not always easy but I would do the surgery all over again in a heartbeat.

Can I Damage My Port???
That's a good question. I too get a soreness and pulling most of the time I lay on my left side. It scares me, so I only sleep on my stomach or right side. I am almost 4 months out so hope this discomfort goes away at some point.

Anyone Get Dizzy,weak Or Faint?
I assume since you're only a week out you're still on liquids. I think my doctor had me on clear liquids for 10 days after surgery and yes, the entire time I was on liquids I felt pretty weak and low energy. It amazes me some people could exercise a few days after their surgery cuz the thought alone made me want to pass out. lol. Now is not the time to try and be superwoman... you need to take time to recover. Everything you're saying is legitimate considering you cannot get proper nutrition yet. Are you able to start taking vitamins again? Are you drinking enough water and protein? Don't hesitate to call your doctor for ideas.

OMG, I can only imagine! You're going to hit 30 being healthier than you have ever been. I bet you will be in onederland at your next appointment. I can't wait to get there too. Some good news.. I AM NOW DOWN 100 LBS!!!! That was a big goal of mine. YAY!!! I believe about 55 of those lbs have been after my surgery. If I can afford it, I am going to get professional pictures taken and also go on a shopping spree. I have an interview on Monday so thats an excuse. Something I need to address with my doctor next month - I struggle to get even 900-1000 cals in in a day. Like today, I have had maybe 650 so I have to eat a yogurt and a banana late night just so I am not extremely low :-/ Am I supposed to be eating unhealthier food just to consume a higher amount of calories? I don't get it. Lately I find myself sleeping in very late, sometimes not having "breakfast" til noon, so that doesnt exactly help. I am glad I'll be temping soon so I will be on a schedule. Breakfast - 5oz yogurt lunch - 1 bbq chicken leg, 2 baby carrots dinner - 6oz spicy beef chili with cheddar cheese on top snack - tea, Water, vanilla greek yogurt and banana slices (will have this later)

Sounds like you've been busy busy busy. A gain is always hard but now you know what you need to do to get back on track. I've noticed since I was sick last week I'm a little more lenient on myself, drinking a glass of juice every day. Nothing wrong with juice but with me it's a slippery slope. SO no more juice for me for a long time. My port has been Soo sore today! I can feel it way more than I used to.. WTH? Breakfast - 5oz Chobani lunch - 2 carrot sticks, 1/2 Arnold's sandwich thin with 2 tbsp Peanut Butter dinner - 3oz roast chicken breast, 2oz potato, 1oz Beans snack - 8oz oj, 16oz hot tea, Water, 6oz vanilla Greek yogurt with sliced berries No exercise today.

I love that idea. How often do you do it? Once a week, once a month? Congrats on 40 lbs down!! Amazing. Again feel pretty tight today and also bloated. meat not going down well. Little bit of port discomfort. Half a cup and I am stuffed, whereas two weeks ago I could eat over a cup. What gives? I haven't vomited and am still able to eat, just not much, and I do burp a lot. Breakfast - 3oz kashi, 3oz skim milk lunch - 4oz beef enchilada, 2 slices plantain snack - tea, banana dinner - vanilla Chobani, sliced berries Exercise - 30 min cardio

Chipotle!!!!!!!!
OMG, I used to looove chipotle chicken burritos. Kind of crazy to think I used to eat an entire burrito plus chips and salsa, especially when you see nutrition facts. I have gotten the burrito bowl once since surgery and that was alright, but I have been craving that burrito for 2 weeks now. I am debating whether it's ok for me to go, but instead get the chicken tacos. Same taste but portioned out (since I could not eat more than 1 taco at this point anyway). Hmm

Little Victories That Make Me Love My Band!
Shopping in regular stores, going on a roller coaster, too many to count. But most recently catching my reflection in the mirror during Zumba class and realizing how much smaller I looked since starting in January. I was no longer the heaviest person in the room... A surreal feeling.

Not The Daughter My Mother Wished I Would Be
Wow. So toxic. While the people in my family were not quite that extreme I do relate to what you're saying. I basically grew up in a single parent house with my mom and sister. My sister has always been petite, but would love and treat me the same if I was 90 or 900lbs. My mom on the other hand is very superficial. I was made to feel I wasn't good enough or attractive constantly. "you would be pretty... If you could just lose weight", "no one would be attracted to a heavy person.. You can't blame them"... "you could find a husband if you'd just lose weight". Unfortunately, the way she felt about me really became the way I felt about MYSELF. I still battle it DAILY, despite having lost a ton of weight. At 23 I'm trying to build my self esteem from scratch. It sounds like therapy may be a good idea. Don't let the weight hold you back like it did all those years. That's no way to live. If you are anything like me the relationship you have with your parents only makes emotional eating get worse. You need to create some healthy boundaries between yourself and your mother if this is going to work. You have the power now!! If you ever need support we are here for you.

What To Wear Home?
I agree with what's been said. Also - flip flops so you don't have to bend over to take them off at security. Trust me that is the LAST thing you want to do a day after surgery!!

TGIF! My pity party is over. I'm sorry everyone had to listen to me. Lol. I still can't hear very well but the pain has lightened significantly. I was able to have 3 real meals today. Made a meal plan for next week to get back on track with. I wanted to get you guys opinions on this. I've been craving a chipotle chicken burrito really badly for probably two weeks. I've resisted it. Drove by a chipotle today and never went in. I am wondering if just getting the burrito next week (if I plan for it) is it ok. I wanna have self control but i dont wanna deprive. Obviously i would only be able to eat 1/3 or so and save rest for another day. What would you do? Breakfast - 4oz yogurt lunch - 4oz chicken noodle soup, 2 saltines dinner - wheat tortilla with tomato sauce, ground turkey and peppers Snacks - 2/3 banana, Water, 4oz OJ

Hi all. Almost Friday! I went to ENT doctor today who said my infection is slowly but surely clearing up. She assured me severe pain IS normal for what I have but that it will clear up within 5 days. Night time and morning is when pain is worse, bur daytime today it was only moderate. I was able to get down some soft foods with only minor discomfort. I feel like I am not doing my best as a bandster right now. I've been drinking juice just to consume enough calories in a day (tough when you can't chew). I am doped up on pain medicine which makes me drowsy. I'm not up to exercising.. Chewing is really tough so I'm not chewing my food down as well as I should. I do not feel physically healthy right now when I can't work out or eat meat, fresh fruits and veggies. I am consipated, my saliva is super thick... Just Ugh!!!!!!! My hope is that I will feel ok by Monday so I can hit the grocery store and start fresh. Breakfast - hot tea lunch - 4oz chicken chili, 2 crackers snack - 8oz bolt house berry juice, 8oz milk dinner - 2oz fish, 2oz shredded tky, 2oz potato
