I have noticed much more male attention lately too. And I mean all kinds of men: I had a black man with braids holler across three rows of cars in the grocery store parking lot to tell me how nice I looked the other day. Then, I had this giant of a red-neck country boy come up to me in Walmart and pick up a big box for me. I didn't ask either and he didn't work there. He just came up and said, " Ma'am, let me help you with that." I have guys smile at me all the time now. I know I am 2-3 sizes smaller, but I don't necessarily think that is all it. I believe that as we lose weight and feel better about ourselves, we exude more confidence and vim about life in general. I think people pick up on that. Women are all over me too. I really don't know how to react to it all. It is a lot of attention! I just say thank you and try to answer any questions that I can. Unfortunately, I do feel that I may lose some relationships because of the weight loss to. When you have friends that are also fat and you have always been fat together, if they have self esteem issues, they will really began to show in the face of your betterment. It is really inevitable; be it jealousy, bitterness, resentment. But you cannot fix them, that is something only they can do. Just try to treat them the same as always and try not to make your success the center of attention when you are together. They feel lousy anyway. But don't feel like you have to walk on eggshells around them all the time either. If the atmosphere just becomes too static and being fat is the only thing that you had left in common, maybe it is time to start a pulling away anyway..

Just to make sure I understand this correctly, it sounds like you are wondering if these new acquaintances would've bothered to get to know you back when you were big? If so, I can totally relate, although more in the context of male attention. It's weird for me to notice guys checking me out a fair bit, and I certainly went through a period where I wanted to say, "where the hell were you 70 pounds ago?!" because odds are, that same guy wouldn't have given me the light of day.

I was sleeved almost 2 months ago (2/6/12) and I just realized today that I hit a huge milestone!!
I plugged my height/weight info into a BMI calculator and my BMI is now 38.8. When I got my surgery my BMI was 43.8! I am no longer in "Very Severely Obese" and am now just "Severely Obese". I no longer qualify for surgery with my insurance company!!!! Thank goodness I already got it
In just 24 more pounds I will be under a BMI of 35 and be classed as "Moderately Obese"

I have been tearing my hair out stalled at 214 lbs. for the past two weeks, but I started trying on clothes last night and I realized that I may need at least some new jeans or capris. I started this journey wearing a size 22, these jeans I bought today are a 16... back atcha scale... This has motivated me to keep eating right and going to the gym and making it happen.

hey peeps...been forever since i was on here...my journey started at 348 , 307 before surgery and im sittin at 194...let me tell u this journey has completely changed my life! went from a size 52 jeans to a 34. from a 5xl hoody to a large. i eat whatever i want!!! anything at all bread rice pasta i can eat it all.my metabolism has sped up something like the millenium falcon. energy is through the roof. i do 850 pushups a day and it has done nothing for my loose skin, i drink a protein shake in the morning with 2.5 scoops of protein...loves it. since surgery i loves my chocolate dunno what happened in the operating room but before surgery i was never like thatbefore lol. for me this surgery has been pure magic...then weight fell off and i didnt have to work at it at all. not like a diet. anyone thinkin bout this surgery RUNNNNNNNNNNN and get it done.it will change ur life.i cannot describe the feelin ..its kinda like im just starting to live.t o be able to walk into old navy or any regular store and buy clothes.i used to be the guy who looked to the bottom of the jean rack to see if they had sizes big enough for me those days are long gone. i cant believe 5000 dollars changed my life...im soooo hyper all the time now its unreal.anyways peoples dont wanna ramble on too long....i could go on for quite a while. lets look alive people woot woot!!!!!!!!!! see pics attched!

I wanted to touch base with you all... because I can! On Thursday I will be 18 months post op. One and one half years exactly. Yay! I'm happy.
Yup, that about sums it up right there.
Here's something I've learned and I think by sharing this bit of knowledge it might help some of you who might be struggling mentally with figuring out how - when - where - what - why's with the Post Op life of a VSG patient.
Notice the word "patient"... because seriously, you will never find this more of a virtue than after you have your surgery. This journey IS!! NOT!! EASY!! You're going to have so many ups and downs you won't know where you're headed sometimes. It's ok, and it's normal to feel confused by a lot of things! That's why this forum is so valuable, all of us pre-oppers and post-oppers coming together to offer support and some great advice.
Here is something to look forward to though... rather than become fixated on how much one will lose on the first month out, or for that matter 6 months... concentrate rather on how your life will look IN ONE YEAR from the date of your surgery.
You're going to have a Santa's List worth of NSV's, likely you will have cleaned out your closet and replaced all your clothes 2 or 3x over. Some people (for example my own Mom) will pass you right up and not realize that you're YOU... You're going to be bombarded with folks coming up and either congratulating you and/or asking you how you did it. You will probably get a little embarrassed by some comments. You won't need to buy your clothes in the Bigs & Talls anymore. Your shoes are going to fit like they should. You will be able to walk and workout with the greatest of ease and without much pain. Likely you will begin to feel more comfortable in larger crowds... and (if you're single) you might feel more empowered to flirt with others. You will fit nicely in stadium seats, in an airplane without extenders, chairs with arm rests... you will also be able to cross your legs like second nature. Your Before & After photos won't even look like you!!
These are only a handful of all the wonderful things you WILL experience at one year out... that you will still be dreaming of at one month.
Patience. It's THE #1 asset to have in this whole process.

Yep, same here. I took my regular dosage of Zyrtec at the hospital and every day since. If you haven't tried it yet, neti pot is great in addition to whatever you choose to take.

Yep, they gave me zyrtec in the hospital because the post nasal drip was makin' me yarg!

You can take Zyrtec my surgeon said

i'm here 2 days post op and everyone is so sweet and nice, the rooms al clean and modern and the give you just abou anything you need or want.

I'm just days shy of my 7 month surgeriversary!!!!! Yay!!!! Ok, so i'm 7 months out and I feel great. My clothes are L/M in Tops and Meduim/ 9 in bottoms (can squeeze into some7/8) and a size 36 waist that's crazy ... even my feet have lost weight from 9 to 7 1/2...
I'm feeling better than ever !!! I've lost 81 pounds and I'm LOVING IT!!!
the 1st pic is hard for me to see hard because i Know how unhappy i was at that weight. I'm so happy that i decided to do something about it ... LOVING my sleeve!!!

Ok so when they took the x-ray they said that I had "Atelectasis" and that my lungs weren't filling completely (hence the nebulizer and antibiotics). I have been walking and blowing balls every hour so not sure why this happened. I have to tell you that Dr. Aceves made me feel so good when I asked for another leak test, he said "absolutely no problem". He was not dismissive or upset because I asked him. He said "Why don't you stay until you feel better". He spoke openly to me about leaks and while he was very confident in his work, his true desire was to make me better and to go to great lengths to make sure I felt comfrotable before going home. Thank god I came here to Mexacali!
