    Someone Like Me

I am 35. I was banded on 2/14/12 and weighed 321. I currently weigh 291. I've had 2 fills and am now feeling restriction. I've had a lot of difficulty with eating too fast and it causing discomfort. So much that I don't even want to eat sometimes. I'm rarely hungry. I'm trying to focus on getting enough Protein and Water in, which I find hard to do. Every morning I have a Protein shake for Breakfast. I just joined a gym and plan to workout at least 3 times a week. I've been walking almost everyday. My next appt is 5/15 and I'm wondering if I need a fill or not. I just downloaded an app for my phone called Eating Slow and it times you between bites. It's helping, just not something you want to use in public. Lol!

    Banded 02/12 Seek Friend Same

I was banded on the 14th. During the liquid diet I lost 15lbs. I started mushies and other soft foods and havent lost a lb since. I do get hungry every 2-3 hours and if I eat too much I have a pain in my left shoulder. My 1st fill is on the 20th so I'm hoping to start losing again. Any guidance or suggestions would be much appreciated!

    February Bandsters?

I just went for my first follow-up appointment (1 week post op). I am down 15 lbs and incisions are healing well. I'm now on full liquids and so far no issues. I still have some soreness around the larger incision and pain in my left shoulder, hoping that stops soon. Other than that, I'm just pretty excited about starting this new journey! Reading all your posts and updates is so encouraging and informative.

    February Bandsters?

Hello Everyone! I was banded on the 14th, still kinda sore around the larger incision. I've been doing the clear liquids and protein shakes. Yesterday, I tried some blended potato soup (2oz) and did fine with it. I'm just curious if anyone is having problems with getting in all their protein? I do get full much faster. I've had some indigestion, but not much. So far, the worst part is having to sleep on my back. I can't wait for my stomach to heal enough that I can sleep on my stomach! Also, what kind of vitamins are you taking?

    1 Day Post Op

Well, my surgery went well. Happy Valentine's Day to me!! I didn't have any problems with nausea. Yesterday, it didn't hurt too bad, today I have more pain and swelling in my stomach. It's hard to get comfortable. I'm back on the clear liquids and can start protein shakes tomorrow. Overall, the experience was better than I anticipated. I go back to my doctor and to work on Tuesday. Oh, almost forgot that yesterday afternoon they did an upper GI test. I had to swallow some barium, but the doctor let me watch it go down to my stomach and through the band. It was kind of cool! I'm at home now, after one night in the hospital. Already picked up meds from the pharmacy and took a shower as soon as I got home. Just trying to rest at this point. Hoping each day feels better.

    Pre-Op - Anxiously Awaiting Surgery

Hello! I'm a single mom of 2 girls, ages 9 and 13. I have several friends and family that have been banded and are successful. I attempted to do this surgery 3 years ago and before surgery had to have my gallbladder taken out, so I got discouraged and put off the lapband. I tried a year later and my mom got really sick, she passed away in May 2010. By January 2011, I promised myself I would make some changes in my life. Being a single mom, I've always put my kids first. I decided that I needed to start thinking about myself too. I started making small changes in my diet and exercising when I found time. I just wanted to convince myself I could make the changes. I started my 6 mo supervised diet In August 2011 and completed it in January 2012. I lost 30 lbs! My insurance approved the surgery and my surgery is scheduled for February 14, 2012...Valentine's Day...what a great present to myself!! I'm so excited! I've been doing the pre-op diet of clear liquid and protein shakes since Tuesday and have lost 7 lbs. I've had some hungry spells, but overall this is easier than I expected it to be. I am working tomorrow, and then surgery is on Tuesday...I'm off work then till the following Tuesday (21st). Hoping all goes well and I'm anxious to begin this new chapter of my life.

    February Bandsters?

Hello, Everyone! My surgery is scheduled for February 14th. My Valentine's Day present to myself...lol. I have been doing the pre-op liquid diet since Tuesday and am really anxious to get the surgery over with! I have struggled with having to grocery shop for my kids, or make them food, etc. But I'm staying strong!! I'm finding it interesting to see how people are doing right after surgery and discovering what I need to prepare for. Any guidance or suggestions, is much appreciated! I will be spending Tuesday night in the hospital. How long do people normally take off work?? My clear liquids and protein shake diet consists of Atkins Advantage shakes, water, Powerade Zero, sugar free jello and popsicles, and broth. Any other suggestions??? By the way, I'm in the St. Louis area and my Dr is Dr. Follwell. Good luck to everyone!!!
