  1. Hi Mommy794, I'm also a Texas girl! I'm also so close to being in the same boat as you. I currently weigh 195 and I'm 5'7" and my BMI is right around 30.5. I would never quilify for insurance to cover for the VSG so i'm a self pay. I feel judged so much about wanting this surgery. If losing weight and staying at a healthy BMI was doable, I would have done it by now. I have decided not to tell anyone that I have scheduled the surgery and already paid my deposit (except my husband). I feel like I'm expected to gain another 50 lbs then it would be ok to have the surgery. I don't want to waste another year consumed with my weight. Yes, I can lose 20 or 30 (I need to lose 55 or 60) but I always gain it back plus an additional 5 or so. So I just wanted to say hi and tell you I understand about having a low BMI. Good luck with your journey!
  2. Thank yall so much. I hope the next 2 months goes by fast. One thing I'm worried about is the pre-op diet. How long do you think I will need to be on it? I have read many times on here were people have lost 10 - 30 lbs. If I lose that much I will get to Mexico and be told to leave - lol. What can I expect?
  3. First I just want to tell everyone how helpful this site, forum, blog is to those of us that are just finding it. I am a self pay, and having surgery with Dr. Alvarez on March 13th....I'm so excited! I do have a low BMI and knew insurance would never pay for me to have, what I'm considering to be (or at least hoping) a life changing choice. I have about 55 - 60 lbs to lose, but want to do this before I have 100 to lose. I have read so many times on here that the only wish would be to have had the surgery sooner. I have fought the yo-yo diets for years and I'm just ready to not have that worry on my mind 24/7. As i am preparing mentally for my surgery I often wonder what life will feel like on the other side, or "loser bench" as its called. I would love to hear input from anyone with a low bmi and what your surgery experience has been. Have you lost what you were hoping to lose. Again, I want to tell you all thank you so much. My husband is the ONLY person that knows about the planned surgery. The only reason I'm not telling anyone is because I have lost the weight so many times only to put it plus an extra 5 so many times. I don't want to feel like a failure once again. This site is my support and salvation right now....THANK YOU!!!!
  4. CowgirlJane, thank you so much for posting this, it really helped hearing a kinda play by play. I'm scheduled for surgery March 13th....I hope time flies by the next 2 1/2 months. I'm trying to prepare myself for the pain, I will be happy if I do as well as you. Good luck with your recovery, I hope its speedy and pain free. TexasGirl73
  5. Thank you RoseSweetie! I feel like this will change my life, I appreciate you telling me your journey. How do you feel, have you lost the weight, and how is your hunger? My only real fear is I will continue to be hungry all the time and want to eat. Of course I feel like no one can eat as much as I eat or want to eat, but maybe we all feel that way in our own private thoughts. Thanks again!
  6. This is my first time to "blog", although I have been a creeper on this site. I appreciate all of you so much, it has really been helpful with all my questions. I did schedule my surgery for March 13, 2012, and things are becoming real now. I'll be honest, I have been a little aprehinsive about sharing my story, my thoughts about this journey that I am on. I'm always so worried about negative thoughts, but feel comfortable sharing things here.....so here I go. I am 38, married with 3 amazing kids and I have been fighting the "weight battle" for about 10 years now. I have slowly gained a little each and every year since 2000. I am 5'6" and I weigh 197 lbs. I know some of you may think why I can't just diet, excercise and not make this drastic of a decision. I have tried EVERY diet and with each and every one I gain back all I lose plus a little extra. I'm truly in love with food and have a huge appetite, I'm an emotional eater. I also come from a family where we tend to get bigger with the years. I have prayed about this for a year. I know I could wait until I'm 200 + but then I will live the next few years with this overwhelming guilt, unhappiness, and my every thought being consumed by what I look like, how big I am getting, what I am going to eat, what I did eat, etc., etc. I feel like I have the best years ahead of me and this is what is best for me. I want to be the best me I can. My entire family rodeo's, and believe it or not I ride as well, although its a struggle the bigger I am getting. I love going and watching my kids, but I have such a passion for it and want to continue to compete. I know my body and my mind are not on the same page. I'm not sure if I started this blog for me, or maybe to help others....maybe both. Thank you, Texasgirl73
