  1. Today is my 16 week surgiversary. I've lost a total of 65 pounds. This has been a week of reaching milestones in my weight loss journey. This morning, I weighed the very lowest amount since 2004. My weight this morning was 199.6!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I originally set this as my goal weight for December 31. I’ve lost an average of 3.73 pound per week or just slightly over ½ pound per day!!! At the three month post op mark, they project that 35% of excess body weight should have been lost. I lost 48.4%!!! I realized that I’ve now lost more than ½ of the amount of the weight recommended to be within a healthy body weight index (bmi). These are just the recent victories that I’ve had that are associated with the weight loss. There are several more ‘victories’ that I’ve noticed that have nothing to do with the number on the scale. · The seatbelt on the airplane on a trip 3 weeks ago had PLENTY of room. · One day, while sightseeing, I walked more than 6 miles! · I am exercising 5 – 6 hours per week in a Jazzercise aerobics class. · My husband put his arms around me for a hug and called me ‘skinny-bones’. Good luck to everyone on this journey.

    July Sleevers

Today is my one week surge-aversary. Surgery was Tuesday, July 24 AM. Discharged home Thursday AM. Last day for pain narcotics was Friday AM. Two week liquid diet start weight (July 11) was 258. Yesterday morning weight was 239. I have my 1 week followup with the surgeon tomorrow morning and will get my official weight loss. I had the one incision VSG surgery. I'm healing great. Still a little tired but am able to get in all my liquids and on a couple of days, all of my protein, too. Some nausea the day following surgery, none since. Pain has improved each day. I'm ready to end the post surgery liquid diet. I haven't exercised more than walking down the driveway and back. I haven't feel much like it.

    A Few Questions....

Thank you! Thank you! Both of your answers were very, very helpful.
  4. I am 3 months into the 6 months required by my insurance co. I've been reading this website for a couple of weeks. I have learned SO MUCH!. I, do, however, have a few questions that I'd like to ask: 1)how quickly did you feel like returning to work following your VSG surgery? When were you able to drive? 2) what is the slimies? 3) how long after VSG surgery must a person wait until they travel? I have a week's vacation planned (hotel & air already paid) and I'm trying to decide if I should wait until after I return or could I have the surgery 2 weeks before and still be away from home for a week? 4) how long after VSG surgery did it take until you were able to walk 2 miles or attended a Water aerobics class? 5) if you are traveling away from home (in hotels, etc), how do you plan for Protein meals? Thanks everyone!

    Friends & Family

I'm truly sorry that your friend of 20+ years isn't supportive of you and your decision. The only person that I've told is my husband. He's attended dr. visits with me. He's VERY supportive. It's most helpful for me to have one person that loves me and that I trust to discuss this huge decision with. I have discussed everything with him: my fears, anxiety, shame, etc. Hopefully, your friend will have some time to process the information you shared with her and begin to support you. You are an adult woman that can make your own informed decisions. You do not have to justify your decision to her. Only to yourself. Perhaps you can invite her to join you at one of your clinic visits so that she can learn how to better support you. If she cannot support your decision (I hate to say this...) but just how good of a friend is she being to you? (sorry if that stings) I know that some people on this forum are able to sing to the rafters the news of their decision to have WLS. I respect that in them. I will not tell anyone else until after the surgery - if then. I will need to be off work but I will only say that I'm taking vacation. I may feel differently after surgery about sharing my decision to have WLS but for now, I'm keeping my decision to myself.
