  1. I've read so many different descriptions of "Full Liquids", "Pureed", and "Mushy" foods and I still don't know how to determine what type of foods are in each category! I understand that Full Liquids are creamed soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, and puddings. What foods are Pureed and what foods are Mushy? What's the difference between the two? If you have to puree everything in the Pureed stage then isn't that the same as Full Liquids? I'm soooo confused!
  2. OMG! Thank you so much for responding! I'm so happy to hear that you both still lost weight and a lot at that!!! I don't know why I didn't think of asking PRIOR to surgery. Thanks again for responding and making my day (life)!
  3. I have Hypothyroidism that is caused by Hoshimoto's Autoimmune disease. Since diagnosed about a year ago I found that I couldn't lose weight no matter what I did! I am 3 weeks post-op and have lost 25lbs but am wondering if I'm going to be able to lose much more weight due to the Hypothyroidism. Any body else have experience with this or know information that can give me hope?
  4. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH PdxMan! You've given me hope! I've never heard it put that way before! You just don't know what you've done for my outlook! Thanks again from the bottom of my heart!!!!
  5. I'm having the same problem!!!! I just can't seem to get it! My problem is that I apparently couldn't "diet" long enough or change my eating habits for life long enough to stay skinny prior to the VSG SO HOW THE HELL CAN I DO IT NOW????? I just don't understand how all of you are getting skinny just because you had the surgery! Right now I'm losing weight because I'm only 3 weeks post-op but I've already started cheating by eating Hershey's kisses. Again, I couldn't say no to food before so what is it that is changing your life for all of you to be able to say no to food now? Just because you had the surgery doesn't change the way your mind works....at least not for me. I'm scared to death that I've gone through the surgery for nothing! I can down 8oz of creamed soup and want more food a half hour later! People on here are saying they can only eat 2-4 oz at any given time....WHAT??? I'm going through the motions and going to join a gym but this just feels like all the other diets I've been on....I'll lose weight and then gain it back....this is sooooo depressing....
  6. I was so afraid of throwing up the liquid tylenol that the doc sent me home from the hospital with that i didn't take one dose. Most people who've had the surgery will tell you that there's very little post op pain especially if you get the single incision. You will be fine with your sobriety. Both my kids are recovering drug addicts so i can certainly understand your concern. At this point you have weight issues that are going to cause you health problems if they aren't already so you need to take care of it. You will be fine with your sobriety but i definately recommend not taking any meds when you get home. Good luck and i wish you the best! CONGRATS ON YOUR SOBRIETY!!!
  7. I had the single incision. There is and was no body pain. The single incision through my belly button didn't even hurt! I'm 3weeks post-op and the only pain I've had is the head hunger and struggling to eat right!
  8. I'm very curious to know as well. I'm 18 days post-op and scared to death of losing my hair! I knew to expect it but now that it's a reality I'm even more scared. I've had two other major surgeries: open heart and open lateral hysterectomy and didn't lose any hair. I'm really hoping that not everyone experiences hair loss.
  9. WHAT AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! You should be soooo very proud of yourself! You are worth every step, every ounce of pain, every heartbeat!!!! CONGRATS and keep following your dreams!!!
  10. OMG! My ex graduated from Ft. Myers High in '80 and I graduated in '81 so am a bit older than you. The LANI KAI!!!!! OMG! We use to hang out there all the time! They were notorious for not "carding" for ID's! I have family that still lives in Ft. Myers and actually stay at the Lani Kai from time to time! Too ironic that we met on here. I wish you all the best and hope to stay in contact with you through our journey to letting out that skinny person inside of us!!!
  11. I know Naples well! Graduated from Cypress Lake High School. Skipped school all the time to hang out at the beach. How bout you?
  12. Hi Pammie and congrats on an uneventful surgery! I'm 15 days post-op and had great results too with no problems so far! Good luck on your journey!
  13. I'm 15 days post-op now and I'm finding that it's just trial and error but anything with milk seems to give me the most problems....like...bad problems! Good luck to you and btw...I'm from Ft. Myers!
  14. I hate to say this because I don't want anyone to think that they can do it and all will be fine. I believe that docs do it for a reason for some people need it for medical reasons. Here goes...I ate Big Macs, burritos, chips, cookies and eberything i could get my hands on up until the day before surgery! I saw my doc the day before surgery and was completely honest because i didn't want to die in surgery!!! He told me that in my case it would be fine so I was very lucky! If you call your doc and discuss it with him it might make you feel better. GOOD LUCK!
  15. CONGRATS TO YOU AND YOUR SISTER FOR MAKING THE DECISION TO CHANGE YOUR LIVES!
  16. I hope that you are right Felicia. I will focus on the protein drinks beginning tomorrow per my doc and hope that my cravings go away. I wouldn't want to have done this for nothing! MERRY CHRISTMAS!
  17. O.K., i have to admit to something and am wondering if anyone else has cheated too. There is Christmas candy all over the house and at the office. Twice now I've sucked on a piece of hard candy and last night i sucked on a white chocolate ppeppermint kiss until it was all gone! I scare myself! Why am I sabotaging myself? I pray I can say no next time but I'm 11 days post op now and will be on clear liquids until Christmas day when i can begin full liquids. Am I horrible???
  18. You look FABULOUS!!!! I'm 10 days post op and can't wait to lose this weight. CONGRATS!!!!
  19. You know what? I can't wait for someone to approach me like those women did yo u! I hope I can remember what you said, " Do you sew your own clothes when you can go to a store? Do you walk when you can drive? Do you churn cream into butter?" You couldn't have put it in to better words! THIS IS NOT THE "EASY" WAY OUT! Would any person in their right mind choose surgery if they could fix it on their own???!!! I don't believe so! Good for you and keep on standing tall.....YOU DESERVE IT!!!
  20. OMG! YOU ARE NOT ALONE! I am post op 9 days (DOS: 12/13/11) and I would eat a cow raw!!! I want so bad to eat something! I'm on clear liquids for 14 days and just dying! I see my doc for post appt today and I'm praying to God that he lets me off two days early to allow puree foods on Christmas day. I believe that most of us that have fought weight have a food addiction. I hear from blogs on this site that the cravings and desires do get better and less frequent. Hang in there....it will all be worth it in the end when we are struttin our thin selves!
  21. CONGRATS TO YOUR NEW LIFE! I am post op 9 days and I can tell you it really does get better every day. Now, the clear liquids part is about to drive me insane but it is all worth it! Good luck!
  22. CONGRATS! I am 9 days post op now and I can tell you that things will change day by day!. I got down water, tea and broth in the hospital and then the day after I went home it was like my tastebuds went awry! Everything was too sweet, water tasted like mud, cold made my sleevette do flips and warm made it spasm! I'm just giving you a heads up so maybe you won't be as discouraged as I was if you anticipate it possibly coming. The one thing that I found that made a HUGE difference in taste and able to actually drink was chicken broth. My girlfriend boiled a whole chicken and really spiced it up with garlic, salt and pepper and then strained it. It was delicious and really turned my health around. Just be prepared for the unexpected and you won't get scared. Good luck!
  23. I'm from Ft. Myers, Florida and now live in Texas! I live in Belton. What city are you going to be in? CONGRATS on your baby girl!
  24. I think we all had the same feelings prior to having surgery as you did. My starting BMI was 37 which I felt was not a very large number and I've never had high blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes or any life threatening problem. So, prior to surgery I had second thoughts because I thought I REALLY didn't need the operation because hell, I've lost weight on my own so many times in the past that I can just do it again. I felt like I was taking the "easy" way out. But then I would remember that yes, I could lose the weight on my own AGAIN but I will only gain it back again too and now it's even harder or practically impossible because I have Hoshimoto's which has given me Hypothyroidism. I am 8 days post op now and I can't say this strong or loud enough: IT WAS THE BEST CHOICE IN MY LIFE THAT I HAVE EVER MADE! It is not the "Easy" way out. I won't kid you. It's a surgery and there is pain but it is very minimal. You CAN'T over eat. You CAN'T pig out. You WILL lose weight!!! There is no doubt or question....you will LOSE weight and it's not easy by all means but it is now obtainable! I'm soooo glad my final decision was to go through with it and trust me, you will not regret it. I think it's normal to have hesitations but remember what the goal is and take charge of.... your life....your weight....you will NOT be disappointed!
  25. I can't wait until I can see changes in my face!! You look GREAT!!
