The class had to be done or I couldn't be scheduled for surgery. Good information in the class.

I started today as well, but it isn't a liquid diet. I drink 3 shakes a day and have choice of salad and protein OR a lean cuisine dinner less than 300 cal and at least 14 g protein and got a few freebies here and there like jell-o , cucumbers, gum, etc. Was told tomorrow I can have chicken or turkey with green beans. Good luck! My surgery is dec 6.

Husband made comment yesterday that he has 2 days left of time off at work and he was joking around, why couldn't I chose suregery on a Monday or Friday, now he wil work a day and be off. So, I am taking this as he is coming with me! That made me happy. But a little worried too, I have never been sick or in hosptial , so unsure how it will go.

Wow! I work 2 jobs, one is a desk job and one at a restrauant, on my feet for 3 1/2 hours after doing my 8 hr desk job. I do it 3 days a week. I have said I will retrun to both in 6 days. Thats my plan!

Wow! That sounds ok to me. I want mine ot be a breeze too! I am scheduled to have surgery at 11am on 12/6,Tuesday. I am hoping to have surgery and return to my desk job the following Monday, sooner if I feel like it. Don't won't to waste my vacation time. How soon are you able to drive? Got kid at college I am supposed to pick up that weekend. Thanks!

Yesterday, I went to talk with mom, tried to explain a few things to her and she seemed more supportive. She said she wants me to do what I feel is right for me but she is terrfied of this surgery and the cons. Husband also yesterday was a little more understanding, he just asked that I wait till after Christmas, we don't do anything big or special for Christmas, small family just gets together and eat dinner. He asked me what am I going to say when family is used to seeing me eat plate after plate and then I am only eating soft foods and not much at all. I said I will tell them I am on a diet, they have all heard that before! Or we just won't go, he always gives me a hard time about going to these family dinners, so thought we could skip it and then he says oh, well I got to eat! I said there you go, just thinking of you! Mom and husband still didn't say if either one of them is going to hosptial with me or not. I really think I want my mom to go, I feel my husband is really scared of what may happen to me and has never seen me in pain or sick. I have only had a c-section and endometrios surgery through belly button and he wasn't with me on either time. I like your comments and needed to hear them all. I have been on diets, to where I have a support system or it was a contest and I wanted to win or a vacation I wanted to go on and loose 40 pounds, but then I would win the contest, go on vacation and then right back gaining weight, I feel the band will be my lifelong support in helping me to win daily. Does this make sense to any of you? I try to explain this to people that are not overweight and they don't get it. Thanks for website !! But ain't going to lie, I am scared !! I really am hoping I can make the right choices and hope my surgery is easy like some of the post I have read.

I have not told anyone(except husband and one friend) about my plans for surgery ,afraid of the negative responses. Really didn't think I would get approved for surgery. My husband and friend have know about all of my appointments and test results. Husband said he don't want me to have this surgery and feels I can do a "diet" on my own, like I have done in past. I tried to explain to him that I need the band to help me make this a lifetime commitment. Yes, I have lost weight before, but never kept it off. I finally told my mother yesterday and she was like begging me not to do this. Said I will regret it, I will never attend any family dinners again, be unhappy because of me not being able to enjoy all the sweets and home country food again and then take it out on my close family(like her and husband). My husband said the same thing, I am thinking he got to her before me? He is only worried about how it will affect me mentally, I do love food and sweets but when I make this longtime choice I will have to follow it or be sick , don't want that. I am unsure if I have any support now or not. I am unsure of who is going to go to the hosptial with me to drive me home?? Mom nor husband mentioned if they would be with me. I am really scared of this surgery now, now that it is a reality. But I can't keep living this way of life either or I will be in bad health. I feel the band will be my biggest support and reminder to eat healthy and be healthy. I feel bad asking anyone including my husband to go wtih me to the hosptial because of him missing work and heck, I would rather my surgery be close to a holiday to were I didn't have to take so much time off work too, would loveto save those days for a trip, but got to do what I got to do. Now just to get the courage to ask mom if sahe is going with me on surgery day. Another thought of mine is ,I am 42 yeras old, how is the band going to be in say 30 years from now in my body? Just thinking out loud today.

Most likely will be doing the pre-diet during Thanksgiving, my surgery date is Dec 6. My husband will not be glad of this but I will say, Hey ,look at the bright side, No family gatherings ! He just likes the food.

Dec 6 and a little a LOT nervous! realy didn't think this woukld happen with insurance. I really hope and pray I can go through this!

My information was sent to both of my insurance companies on 11/4/2011. I called every day to both of them and yesterday I was told approved by BCBS but had to wait till this morning for them to really mean the approval. Then I called UHC, today and asked if it made a difference that they were my secondary and the ysaid yes, why did we get all of this paperwork ? I said I am unsure what you are saying, she said because UHC is secondary, I didn't need to send all 22 pages of information, when it comes to secondary you just submit it to be paid. UHC said if BCBS said yes ,then we say yes. I am still uneasy about them just giving me an approval over the phone. And I don't get a copy of the approvals! Just the Dr. Both places said they faxed it over already and my dr's office is saying no they don't have it and no date can be set till they get it. I call BCBS back and now the so called nice nurse is not so nice anymore, she said I faxed it and if the dr's office is saying no, then they have to call not you! I was like hey, this is my policy and my life, why don't I get a copy of this approval letter? She said have dr office to call and hung up. Drives me crazy !! So best advice call them daily and ask for a reference number. Good luck!

Awesome! That is my goal!! Hoping both approve it,if i had to choose one over the other to approve, I would choose UHC, lower deductibles and plus they are paid up for the year. I guess BCBS would have to deny first and the UHC pay. I am thinking I will appeal their decision if either/both deny.

I have 2 insurances, NC State BSBC(70/30) and UHC(80/20). I have heard BCBS is easier to get approval and fast at responding but UHC can take awhile to respond. I am hoping so bad that both of them are approved. If I get at least one approved I will be happy but would have out of pocket expense, if both approve no $$ OOP. Does anyone have 2 insurances? What was the outcome? My family dr said that if they are going to pay for all the pre-test, why wouldn't they pay for the surgery?

Yes, I have had GERD for awhile now but didn't think it was serious enough to have the H. Pylori bacteria in my stomach. The test is really simple, you breath into a bag and then drink this white stuff , wait 15 mintues and blow again. The hosptial gave me my test results right away. I have to take the meds for 14 days and wait 4 weeks to be re-tested. If Dr were to do the surgery with positive test results then it could lead to having uclers or not being able to do the Lap Band because of the stomach being full of bacteria. So far with the meds all side effect I have had is a bad taste in my mouth and I am already doing pre-treatment to not get a yeast infection, do not want that! It is some strong anitobotics. I had Upper GI and gallbladder ultrasound done yesterday, waiting for test results. I fear that they are going to say ok,so now you have to have gall bladder taken out. Then yesterday my foot has been hurting, so now I have Plantar Fasciitis and now on meds for that. So, I am following apart now!!

I have to take 14 days of Prevpac and have read that the meds do not work and that the side effects are terrible. I read that the test is not accurate and that after taking the meds for 14 days I have to wait for another 14 days after taking meds for accurate test. I have read a lot of crap online about this and how you get it and how you get rid of it. Dr will not do surgery with a postive test result, only good news that came out of this is that we do not have to have this test result sent to insurance to try and get approval. Has anyone else been through this? How did you handle it? Just got email from Dr office and I know have to take meds for 14 dyas, wait 4 weeks before re-testing. I was hoping to get this done be the end of year and everyone is was saying it is possible but I don't think so with this delayed! i am really bummed out today because of this! Thanks!

How long did you have to wait for the re-test after finishing the meds? My dr saw 4 weeks after! i said oh my gosh!! That long?

This is was from the FDA website. But again how long will it take for the insuarnce companies to make the change?? The Feb. 16, 2011, approval expands the use of the LAP-BAND to include obese individuals with a BMI of 30 to 34 who also have an existing condition related to their obesity.

I just had my first visit today with Dr David Newman, in Greensboro, NC. I have 2 insurances and really worried that neither one of them will approve me. I am borderline with my BMI for approval. Got all my appointments lined up for this coming week .What is the earliest anyone got approved for insurance and the shorest time you got your surgery? Will spending a lot of time on her reading about everyone.
