  1. Has anyone heard of how the approvals are going with BCBS of Texas. I have the teacher insurance.
  2. I also forgot to mention that the other thing I'm worried about with the lap band is that I'll spend a lot of time back and forth to the dr for fills, band being too tight, not being able to get things down, etc....It just seems that everything I read about is people going back and forth to the dr. My job is very demanding and i travel a lot. I'm not in town to just run to the dr office. I'm concerned about being out of town and needing my dr. Are gastric bypasses less maintenance?
  3. I'm in the research stage and have my appointment on the 20th of this month. From the research I've done, I'm getting the impression that if I only want to lose 40-50 pounds, I should get the lap band. Out of all the things I've read, it seems that the people that have gotten the gastric bypass are losing 100+ pounds. Is this right? Are there any recommendations that anyone can give me? I'm just trying to get my questions together so when I have my appointment, I'll be prepared. I don't want there to be such a drastic weight loss that I look ill or unhealthy. I'm also worried about all the things people are saying about the vitamin deficiency they are encountering. Thank you for helping and not making me feel stupid for asking questions!
  4. I'm new to this site and am in the decision phase of surgery. I've been overweight all my life. I'm at my heaviest (190) right now, but have been up and down from 140 on up. But, now I'm having medical problems such as high blood pressure, high cholestrol, and am a borderline diabetic. My family has a history of weight problems and all the medical problems to go with it. They have resigned to the fact that this lifestyle is "just the way it is", but i hate feeling like this and am trying to omit myself from this cycle. After being diagnosed with the health problems, I was referred by my dr to have the surgery. I'm very scared and reluctant about regretting the surgery and being sick all the time. I'm very outgoing and don't want this interferring or limiting me in my activities. I also don't want to talk to my family about it, because I don't want them to feel like I'm shaming the way they are (they don't believe in surgery). I live out of state and just want to do this on my own terms without anyone discouraging me. I've got my first appointment next month and feel alone and scared in making this decision.
