  1. I've been having trouble with my sleeve this week, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar difficulties: I had my surgery on June 8th, but due to a leak I was on IV nutrition only until a few weeks ago. Since then I've progressed up to soft foods (low-fat cheese, eggs, fish, etc.), and I wasn't having any trouble until Tuesday, when I had prepared a Breakfast of EggBeaters with a little low-fat cheese & a few spices. I took a few bites, and immediately lost my appetite. Shortly after that, I had a stomachache that lasted a day & a half. It eventually went away on its own, and Thursday I tried that breakfast again, with the same results. This time, though, the stomachache has stayed. I've tried going back to very soft foods, then Clear liquids, but it doesn't seem to make much difference what I eat or drink, or even whether I eat or drink, the stomachache stays. No nausea or vomiting except briefly Thursday morning. I'm on a liquid antacid (Zantac), but that doesn't seem to be helping either. When I do eat, I measure all my food, so I know I'm not eating too much. I'd have thought that any post-surgical swelling would be gone by now, and I can't think of what else could be causing this problem. Thoughts, anyone?
  2. With the eggs, it surprised me because I'd had them a few times before this happened with no problems. No fever, and the pain is different & in a different location than when they found the leak the first time. But to be safe, I just got off the phone with the local advice nurse (I have Kaiser insurance) & they're sending a message to the doctor on call. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon.

    Soooooooo tired

Had a rough 24+ hours -- bad cramps & diarrhea from eating cottage cheese with fiber already mixed in at least once a day for 3 days. I had complications from my surgery in June (sleeve leaked --> abdominal abcess --> IV nutrition only thru a PICC line for 2+ months until stomach healed), and I was only just permitted by my surgeon to begin eating very soft foods 4 days ago. I was so dying to chew something after all that time, and the cottage cheese is the only thing I'm currently allowed to eat that needs any chewing. So no more cottage cheese with fiber for me! At least, not until constipation becomes a problem. Funny thing is, pre-surgery, I disliked cottage cheese, but now it's heavenly to me! Anyway, I slept so much yesterday trying to recuperate from my intestinal difficulties, that I had terrible insomnia last night. I think I got less than four hours of sleep. Add to that the sudden reduction of calories from them cutting my IV nutrition in half 2 days ago, and I'm really draggin' today. To top it off, my husband was changing the bandage on my abdominal drain this morning, and when he was cutting the paper tape around the tube, he nicked it, causing all the pressure to release! That was stressful! Fortunately, he was able to "repair" it using some of the specialized plastic bandage covering that was left over when Home Health was changing my PICC line dressing. I'm fairly certain my surgeon is going to take out the drain later today when I see him, anyway, so I'm not terribly worried about it now. I just hope I'm not too sleepy when I'm driving up to see him. I'm not feeling too terribly sleepy at the moment, so I think I'll attempt to go for a short walk while I still have some time on my lunch hour. Wish me luck! How much should I be eating?

I'm curious -- why do you choose Instant Breakfast, which has high sugar & low protein, instead of some of the other powdered protein shake supplements that are out there (that are the other way around)?
