  1. I am 2 days shy of being banded for a week now. I read the boards on how most ppl is going out and being active just a few days after their banding. I realize everybodys body is different and we all react different ways. Should I be concerned that I have been getting nauseous still? I am rarely hungry and just feel so sick to my stomach. I have been taking the pills I was given. It just concerns me why I am taking so long to heal. Am I just being a baby or is this common for some ppl? I am seeing my doctor tomorrow for my post op visit.
  2. I was so scared of the anesthesia myself. My biggest fear was waking up in the middle of the surgery. Seems I would have a better chance of winning the lottery then that happening. They are standing there monitoring you the whole time... I am sure you will be fine... I do understand your fear.. I have been there and done that!!! And I came out fine.. GOODLUCK!
  3. I was also banded on the 27th and have had a problem with my tongue. Nothing tastes right. It's almost as if my taste buds are dead.. I was hoping this would go away. I have an appointment with my dr on Tuesday for my post op visit.
  4. I also feel better today then I have so far. I notice I feel worse when I wake up in the morning. My throat has been really raw and my mouth stays so dry. It seems when i try and eat anything I have the worst taste in my mouth.. like my taste buds are asleep lol I am still not able to get the Protein drinks down.. I actually havent felt hungry at all. I have been trying to walk during the day. I havent had a bowel movement. I was debating on taking a laxitive or waiting another day or 2. I am glad you are starting to feel better Mason!
  5. Hi there! Dr. Brad Watkins banded me this past Wednesday. A 2 week liquid diet was required but to get a jump start on mine I did 2 shakes and a meal for a week before the 2 week liquid diet. My problem was mainly head hunger. You just have to keep your eye on the goal.... Everytime you are craving something ask yourself what's more important your health or that craving. It really isn't easy but YOU can do it. I used the Herbalife formula 1 Protein shakes and added extra Protein Powder to them. Since I could only go to 800 calories I didn't add anything to them so I could keep the calories down. They did however give me a sheet of recipes for the shakes. Some looked really good! I know it is hard not to be nervous because this stuff is all new but just hang in there. You are going to do awesome. Dr Watkins, his staff and all the ppl at university pointe is wonderful caring ppl. Hang in there! ~ Tabby
  6. Thanks for clearing that up Debora Anne. I don't know why I was thinking there was metal in the port.
  7. You're Very Welcome!
  8. The staff gave me a packet from Lapband.com and in it was a temporary card I could use until after surgery and then I sent in the form this morning to receive my permanant card. I don''t know if you can go to the lapband site and request one.. Maybe you could call your weightloss center and ask them for this packet. I was also wondering if it will be hard going through the airport because of the port. If so this card would come in handy.
  9. This might be a crazy question but I was wondering about buffet bars. I know that with our cards we can order off childrens menu or appetizers... Does anyone know if we should be able to get into a buffet bar at a childs cost? With the way I feel now I couldn't eat as much as a child. I am only 3 days post op and the band doesn't have filling in it and I haven't been hungry at all. I make myself eat small amounts during the day but have really lost all desire to eat. I havent been able to go anywhere near the 1200 calories I am supposed to be eating now.
  10. wow thats GREAT! I joined the gym about a mnth ago. I think it is great you have a buddy to do this with you. I also go with the lady that does my hair. Support is key on this journey. I was told to start out at 15 reps each of lower and upper body strength training. I also do either bike or treadmill... I was also doing Zumba but since the gym is going to be offering zumba classes I am going to be doing that there after my body heals from the surgery. The guy that owns the gym is a PT so I am going to get in touch with him and see if he will help me with a good workout routine. I know I am skipping around here tonight but I also wanted to say that the strength training is important because it helps build up muscle and helps you to burn fat and calories faster.
  11. My BMI is 50.4 and that was after the pre op diet (in which I lost 33 lbs on). I had my lap band put in this last Weds. I have always "heard" that with gastric ppl lose weight faster but with the band more ppl keep it off and lose at a safer rate. I think anybody can do anything they put their mind to. Do what you feel is right for you.
  12. My husband took me to Krogers and we bought a bunch of baby food. I figure if I can eat a snack pack I can have the baby food. I hope you continue to do well today. I dont want to but I think I am going to take a nausea pill. After getting out in the heat I feel kinda sick to my tummy. Other then that I am still doing great. I have a post op visit Tuesday at noon. I am hoping I will be fully back to normal by then... Have a great day!
  13. Hi Mason! You probably had yours before me today then. I think he said I was number 4. I just had to take some pain meds for my shoulders and my back feels stiff around to chest area. Not really any feeling of nausea so far. Right after surgery I was feeling miserable but by the time I made it in the house from the car I was starting to feel better. I didn't have any problem sleeping. One incision site is bleeding some... I haven't been able to eat or for that matter even felt hungry. Getting a real dry mouth so suck on ice chips.. Also got some sugar free popsicles and they help for a dry mouth. Only problem is after I ate half the popsicle I wasnt really wanting anything at all to eat. I think this morning I will get a sugar free pudding because I dont think I can handle Protein shake atm. I do hope we can meet sometime. Do you plan on coming to the support groups? I wasn't sure if I was going to but I think I could really benefit from it. Well take care and stay in touch!
  14. Thanks for the info! I will have to look Mason33 up!
  15. My husband has promised me a BMW when I reach my goal of 150. When he seen I lost 32 lbs on my pre op diet alone he told me to slow down some so he can save the money for it LOL I am going to reward myself with small things throughout the process.. Things like tanning, manicures, pedicures, etc. We deserve it!
  16. Had my surgery today. Will say I felt miserable when I woke up in recovery but feel SOOOOO much better now! I have to give a shout out to my surgeon Brad Watkins, the staff of Cincy Weight Loss Center & all the nurses, anesthesioligists and other staff at university Hospital in West Chester Ohio. They are so caring!! That means ALOT. I had also lost 32 lbs on my preop diet.. I was AMAZED. I hope to use this board more often now & get to know the ppl on here.
  17. yes, I have surgery on the 27th of this mnth.
  18. The last couple weeks I have been doing zumba 3 times per week, treadmill 30 mins 5 days a week & upper & lower strength training 5 times per week. I have been drinking 2 protein shakes and a regular dinner. Next week I start my 800 calorie 2 week liquid diet.... With the exercise I have been doing already I stay weak and tired all the time. I would love to hear some opinions on wether I should keep up the exercises while on the liquid diet or not. thanks!
  19. I just got back from the gym. Did an upper body workout as well as walking 1 mile on the treadmill. Walked slow on the treadmill but slow and steady wins the race eh? I never realized how great exercise can make ya feel.. Not only is it good for weightloss but it is great emotionallly. I plan to do more as time goes on but at 355 lbs I am patting myself on the back. Have a great day all!
  20. so far I have only told immediate family and a couple friends that I have recently started going to the gym with. My husband is sister is very supportive. The lady I have been exercising with keeps telling me to think hard before I do it because she knows someone that gets sick whenever she eats. I don't think she understands that it's probably a productive burp where she is eating something she shouldn't or is eating too fast. I try and keep things secret around here too but news travels fast, so I can understand how your news traveled through DH's work. I just checked out your lapband profile and I am really amazed! I am 355 lbs now and my goal weight is 150. Coming here and seeing ppl like you really inspires me and gives me hope. Thanks for inspiring!
  21. It seems you are doing an awesome job. Thanks for the reply!!! I have never been more certain about a decision in my life, (other then my marriage). I agree and think ppl do get the 2 confused. I am just going to keep on keeping on and disregard any negative I receive while on this journey. Thanks again for your reply!
  22. I was talking about the lapband with my sister today when my 8 year old niece asks me "why I didn't just do zumba and eat healthy to lose weight". I am not sure if it was a good idea to share this with a child, my hopes is that her and her brother sees the struggles that I go through with my weight and won't have to deal with this themselves. The nurse told me during my consultation it isn't a good idea to share with everyone about my upcoming lapband... She says that ppl tend to put lapbanders under a microscope once they know... Who do you all share with? Have you found alot of ppl that doesn't understand why we have came to this decision is negative and/or non supportive?
  23. I don't think it is a stupid question. I will be having surgery 7/27 and I was wondering the same thing. I am glad you asked
  24. I am going to use the multivitamin from Herbalife. http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.shopherbalife.com%2Fhealth2000&h=dAQBudhJT
  25. My surgery is scheduled for July 27th. Should I be nervous? I tell myself I am not but then I guess it's only human to be a little nervous. I have no doubt about the lap band its self. It is the actual surgery that scares me (nothing against my doctor either). I feel confident with him or I wouldn't be going through this. I guess it's just human nature.
