  1. So, you told him what he needs to do, but have you examined what your motivations are behind why you need to dress provocatively? Did you read the third paragraph in my last post? In every conflict, we each have a role and a part. It is too easy just to put it off on the other person.
  2. Losing the weight is going to result in less compression on the cartilage, therefore, you should be a bit taller. Less cartilage comression, the spongier it can be. Think about all the cartilage in your spine. We are all taller in the morning than we are at night just for this reason. Lose weight and the result is apparent always. Check THIS out.
  3. Rice is one of those foods I consider nutritionally irrelevant. It occupies so much space, and for what? Not a lot of good nutrition there and you would be better served by allocating that space to veggies, assuming you already have had your Protein in. They have a better amount of carbs and other nutrition your body needs. I'm not saying you can't eat rice, and I have and do occassionally, but only after I have reached all of my other nutrition goals. i wasn't able to do this until I was about 6 months out.
  4. Almost 20 months post-op, here. Breakfast: Yogurt and a Protein shake (Premier) AM snack: banana Lunch: Soup - Chili, chicken veggie, bean and ham ... something like that Afternoon snack: Couple of those little oranges Dinner: Some lean meat, chicken/fish/pork with veggies or a salad with ham/tuna Night snack: Medium bowl of ice cream I lost 130# with the sleeve and am below goal. Like SuperSweetUms, I am able to drop weight pretty quickly if/when I want to by being strict with my habits.
  5. Our very own MassIndex is one of our model citizens here in the forum and now out in the world. Check out THIS article from the Las Vegas Sun. He was then asked to do a segment on NPR, too! I had the privilege of listening in live, but the podcast is now posted HERE. If you are needing some inspiration or are wondering what your potential is, then you have to check these out. Congrats to you, Mark, and to all others deciding to follow his path. Truly inspirational.
  6. Scotty, congrats on your weight loss. That is awesome! I am happy to hear you went to an AA meeting. Walking in the door the first time is the hardest thing to do, for sure. Don't let your momentum stop there. Pick up a big book (the blue book) or read it online. If nothing else, do yourself a favor and read the first 3 chapters. It won't take you long. If you find you can identify, then you will know what to do next. If you have an issue with the GOD text, every time you come across it, just substitute the words AA. Give it try. What is the worst that can happen? What is the best?
  7. There is the belief that marriages should not be disposable. Hit one road bump and toss it out the window. Committed relationships are hard. Sometimes, there are miserable times. I have found the level of rigorously honest communication determines the level of my misery in about all of my relationships. IF I am open and honest about my life, struggles and victories with my significant other, then I find they will be more likely to do the same. Misery can be transformed into being closer than you ever knew you could be. But, of course, you have to be honest with yourself, first. What is your motivation for wearing outfits you know your spouse finds questionable? Is it to feel better about yourself? If that is true, then that points to needing attention from men and women who are not your spouse. Is it to upset your spouse because you know he doesn't like it? Hopefully you can see the issue there. Anyway you look at it, you are seeking attention and there must be a root cause for this.
  8. Were you aware that almost all WLS patients have hair loss? Compounding the side effects of levothyroxine, I wouldn't be suprised. I did not have thyroid issues and lost about half my hair beginning at the 6 month mark. Search the site for hair loss and you will get a wealth of threads.
  9. Please don't read my post from a cynical point of view. It is quite the opposite. There are 1,000s threads on threads on this topic ... one more is not going to make a difference. It's not frowned upon to post a new thread on a popular topic. I just want to suggest gleaning the great information that has already been shared by hundreds of other veteran sleevers. Which would you like? 4 or 5 responses to this thread or dozens and dozens of shared experiences?
  10. No, you should be walking right now. They had me up and walking half an hour after I returned from post-op. You gotta get moving. Ask them again to take you for a walk. She is probably just busy and doesn't want to take the time. Insist someone take you.
  11. You've decided to make a change with your relationship with food. It is not simple or easy. The next year will be an emotional time as you go through this change starting now. Good luck, read the forum and ask any question you have.
  12. IMO, it is impossible to gain all the weight back. The stomach will stretch a bit, but we're talking about only a couple ounces. It will never return to its previous size. My surgeon laughed at me when I asked him. The bottom line is you will lose weight if you consume fewer calories than you burn. With the sleeve, even at 20 months out, I can get about 1,400 calories in on a good day. Most people get less than that, but I am at my goal weight and in maintenance mode. Have no fear ... you will be a huge loser!
  13. I'll have to give this a try. Just no cilantro ... ick. BTW, comino = spanish for cumin
  14. You may have hit a point of equilibrium where the amount of calories you take in equal the amount of calories you burn on a daily average. If you would like to lose more weight, ensure you are doing the basics: Don't drink Water 15 minutes prior, during or 45 minutes after eating Eat lean Proteins first, then good carbs Exercise - push yourself, don't just go through the motions. Your heart rate should be up there. Do you track on MyFitnessPal?
  15. I'm just curious if you have read the threads on this topic and if your really feel the loss has stopped or stalled? You're right, the topic has been discussed at length and the information is still relevant and up to date.
  16. I am so sorry to hear you had this experience. Some folks are completely ignorant to the struggles some folks have with weight loss. Sometimes, they have their own insecurities about their weight and reactions like you experienced is their only recourse. Don't let their childish behavior inside. It is their problem, not yours, so don't make it yours. This was the best decision I ever made for me and my family. My family knows it, too. Just because your co-workers are clueless doesn't mean you are making the wrong decision for you. This is your life, not theirs. It is your story, not theirs. Live your life, not theirs, Talk to your HR dept regarding your boss tomorrow. Don't wait as it may escalate.
  17. My research has shown that AllThatJazz is pretty much correct. The body can consume only so much Protein at any given time. It is widely accepted that 30g of protein at a time is the maximum at a single point of intake, and anything in excess is stored first in the liver as glycogen. If your glycogen stores are full in your liver, then it is stored as fat in your body's fatty tissues. So, 30g max, 2-3 times per day is what is recommended. Are there exceptions to this? Sure. If you are exercising rigorously, then you will want to up it. Weight lifting and adding pounds to your lifts weekly? Definitely need more. The quality of protein is also important. Stay away from the shots and focus on whey protein. It is the quickest absorbing. Of course, there are exceptions ... but stick with this and you'll be fine.
  18. Are you doing low carb? Carbs are quickly turned to glycogen which is the fuel our bodies use for energy. Weight loss may be slower, but for me, when I increased my carbs, I increased my activity as I had more energy. With increased activity, I was able to burn fat far more efficiently. Give it a try and see what happens for you.
  19. I was in the same boat. I consulted with my NUT who told me to increase my carbs. That is what is needed for energy. I added cooked carrots and green Beans to my Soups, pureed, and it was almost an instant response. Give it a try. It worked for me.
  20. I'm just curious, you said, "I'm finding my husband is going to have a huge issue with the weight loss and me feeling more confident/ sexy" Why? Is it a cultural thing? Has he not supported you in other endeavours? Is he a controlling type? IMO, you should do whatever makes you happy, if it is a problem for him, then it is his problem, not yours. As long as you stay true to yourself ... that is all that matters.
  21. Check out THIS dude. His name is O.T.R. Sleever. Staple member of our community and a moderator here.
  22. Don't eat much toothpaste here, either, but pear skins. I can feel 'em just sitting in there.
  23. Never hurts to call, but I would hardly call 99 degrees a fever. You are only .4 degrees above normal. My body is going to vary by more than that throughout the day, for sure. Plus, you did just have a surgery 3 days ago. Your body is going to be working a bit harder right now fighting organisms introduced into your system. Call, but don't stress about it. That won't help.
  24. How are your taste buds? I had back surgery 3 weeks ago. About 3 days post-op, my tongue was splotchy. Didn't think too much about it. Couple days later, I couldn't taste a thing and my mouth and throat began to hurt. Called the Dr and they said it was thrush. I googled some images and sure enough, that was it. They gave me a prescription for an anti-fungal and about 5 days later, I was back to "normal". Thrush is normally seen in nursing infants. While I was disappointed I didn't acquire this condition through nursing, the Dr office explained it can also be caused by intubation during surgery as it can contribute to an inbalance of the micro-organisms in the mouth. Basically, it is a yeast infection in the mouth. Yeah, I know ... gross. Got yogurt?
