Hi all, I was banded about 19 months ago and have pretty much failed the band. I was out of work for a good part of this time, and being a cash-paying patient, couldn't get many fills. However, about a year ago I went in and they really filled me up full. Good news....I started losing weight. Bad news: I was throwing everything up. So I went in for an unfill and haven't been back since. Now I am at the weight I started at plus 5 lbs. I have a fill appointment next week. I decided yesterday to make some changes and really make an effort to make this work. I'm quitting drinking...I was taking in a ton of empty beer calories. I'm also starting to work out again...was only able to do cardio for 24 mins tonight but hey it's a start. Also going to start tracking everything I eat on my phone. I haven't been in touch with anyone I met from my original support group, or even the people I met on here, since I did so horribly. I'm dreading facing my surgeon for a fill but I have to do it. I guess I just needed to talk a little and could use some encouragement. Thanks.

Sorry guys I've not been around, been kind of depressed about my lack of weight loss. At one point my home scale was saying I was down 8 lbs a week after surgery...now it saying only 2 lbs. It's my fault because I've not been sticking with a strict diet....I just don't have the willpower right now and the band has no restriction so it's just like it was before. I'm really hoping for some better results after my fill on the 18th. Shauna

Just wanted to say I am soooo happy...weighed myself for the first time in a week and I was down 6 lbs! I am so surprised because I don't have much restriction and have been eating pretty much whatever I want, just in smaller portions. Might hit my goal weight in time for my 40th Bday after all! OK, guys, sorry, just need to vent here for a second. I just found out yesterday that I am out of a job. I paid for the lapband surgery myself and put myself in debt to do it. Plus my fills are $370 each. Now I'm not sure if I'll have the money for a fill when it's time. Just kinda bummed out. Shauna

You may be one of the lucky ones and get restriction right from the start like your nutritionist! If not, at least we can keep in mind that the hunger is temporary until we hit our "sweet spot". The way I see it is worst thing that can happen is the weight comes off a little slower/a little later than our original plan (mine was very aggressive), but we are still going to get there! I would check in with your surgeon's office to see what they recommend....if you get dehydrated you'll end up in the emergency room and that's no fun! I have the opposite problem....I've been starving since day 3 after surgery. I have NO restriction and am totally bummed out about it. Have to wait 6 weeks for a fill too. Doesn't help I've only lost 2 lbs. since start of pre-op diet. Looks like this weight loss may be slower for me than I expected. Hoped to reach goal in 6 months for my 40th birthday but that's looking like a bit of a pipe dream now. Shauna

Welcome Scott, and so glad to hear from the others recently banded that are checking in as OK! I'm headed to a support group that my surgeon's medical practice holds every month for lap band patients, it's pretty awesome. Does anyone else do those? Here you go...from way back on page 7! Food: sugar free popsicles sugar free Jello protein shakes fruit juice/milk/crystal light (I LOVE the Walmart brand of crystal light) soup Medical: Gas X Strips Scar cream or cocoa butter Ice packs Heating Pad Lip balm OTC Pain reliever General: drinking straws electronic scale hand blender new set of knives (nice and sharp to cut up food!) "Bandwagon" book small rubbermaid containers to help portion out food food scale measuring cups

There's 2 schools of thought here...one says, just wait a week or two, and the numbers will start coming down again (you are on a mini-plateau). The second one says your body thinks it's starving with so few calories and isn't letting go of the weight for that reason. In which case, you should temporarily UP your calories (say to 1000+ a day) for a few days to see if that fixes it. I can't tell you which one of these is right, but those are your options. Shauna

Great news! My nutritionist is going to let me go to mushies on Wednesday, two days early. I can't handle this all liquid diet, I have no restriction and the hunger is just out of control! Bummed I have to wait 6 weeks for my first fill since I'm clearly going to be in bandster hell what with no restriction. Might mean I'm going to lose little weight at first, but I'm not going to starve myself either. If I wanted to/could starve myself I wouldn't have just dropped $13,000 on this band! Shauna

Wow, you remember my charm bracelet! I've just got the one heart for now, that I will have engraved with the date that I meet my goal weight. Gotta lose 10 lbs before I buy another one. I agree with everyone else, I am starving! How are we supposed to live on water and broth for 7 days???? This is insane. I'm calling my nutritionist tomorrow to see if I can move mushies up sooner. Feeling downright well right now, except for some pain at my incisions when getting up and down. I can't believe I felt so much better only 48 hours after surgery. Hope everyone is doing well!

48 hours post surgery and I'm feeling pretty good! Day of surgery was pretty bad but it keeps getting better. No more gas pains and just the incisions hurt some. Not even taking the Lortab today...which will be a relief because I hated the way it made me feel! I only lost 1 pound on a 10 day pre-op diet, but I'm not sweating it. I was allowed some solid foods and kind of overdid it on both those and the the yummy protein shakes. I'm not going to worry too much about losing until I'm all healed up and I get my first fill at 6 weeks post-op.

Hi guys, 1 day since banding and my incisions are so sore! Everytime I get up out of bed they ache for an hour. I've been mostly sleeping because I just feel pretty miserable over all and it's a way to escape. Plus, my pain meds make me to dumb and tired to do anything like read. I don't think I have too bad of gas pains (yet) except a lot of tightness in my chest. Tell me this gets better...every minute I'm awake drags on like an hour and it feels like this is never going to pass! Shauna

Hi Tammy! I'm here and banded! Surgery went well, they fixed my hernia at the same time. My gas pain is manifesting itself as a lot of tightness in my chest which is making it hard to breathe. Incisions hurt quite a bit getting up and down but not too bad otherwise. Pretty much a textbook recovery so far. Hope everyone else getting banded today is doing well and check in soon! Shauna
