I have struggled with my weight all of my life gaining and losing 80 lbs three times. I eat for emotional reasons and because socializing (eating, drinking) was and is such a big part of my life with family and friends. I did investigate surgery five years but decided against. I finally got to a point where losing and gaining 10 lbs over and over wasn't working for me. It was just too hard to keep the weight off.
My main reason for wanting the lose the weight was to increase energy and reduce the pain in my knee's on strain on my back. I've lost 48 lbs since my surgery and I am definitely meeting my goal lb by lb. I have more energy than I've had in years and my pain has decreased. I look forward to feeling better and better on both fronts.
My challenge has always been consistentcy. I never have a perfect week and I am ok with that as long as I am sticking with my plan 80-90% of the time. However, all of a sudden due to stress or anxiety I give in to all of my wants and needs using food to make myself feel better. Well, that leads to a stretch where I am sticking to my plan 10-20% of time and giving in to every-and and I mean every- temptation the rest of the time. This can go on for 2-3 months undoing everything I did in the previous 3 months.
While I am working on this with self talk and meditation, I continue to have a struggle. I ask myself, are you "head hungry" or "stomach hunger" and then I try to act accordingly. This last 3 month stretch caused me to gain back 10 lbs and I am scared. I thought this website might help with keeping me focused on the goal-and I am hopeful that my mind and actions will follow.
My Summer 2011 Goal is to lose at least 20 and hopefully 30 lbs. I look forward to supporting others and being supported as we move through our only personal health journey.
