  1. I just had my surgery on October 12th, I walked a little around the hospital, but I did not over do it. It does help especially with the gas. When you are home, just walk a bit around your home nothing to crazy. By Friday, I walked 15 minutes around my neighborhood, and I felt fine. Just listen to your body, but do try to walk a bit. Best of luck.
  2. Yup, I have my surgery on October 12th. I'm excited...

  3. I just sent you a message with the info, you should see it somewhere in your profile.
  4. Yes, because I live 10 minutes away from the hospital it will be an outpatient. Sorry you are having such trouble with this. Have you tried looking at other hospitals? You may have to drive far. The place where I am going they have patients from other states come and have the surgery. Because they come from so far they stay a day or two at the hospital. I hate to incovenience you, but this may be an option for you. As far as I know they only speak with the dietician once.
  5. Hello, Have you called your insurance and verified the requirements? I have Blue Cross and I went I went to my originally chosen dr. for the surgery, they told me I had to talk to a dietician for 6 months. Well, it turns out that it was completely false. I only had to see the dietician once and now I am schedule for surgery in two weeks with a different surgeon. That's why I suggest you call you your insurance. I know that there are some insurance companies that do require 3-6 months of speaking with a dietician. Have you tried other weight loss through other means? Such as Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, etc? If so, do you have it documented? Because then you can appeal it and show proof that you have tried loosing weight, and sometimes they will accept that and won't require you to see the dietician. Best of luck to you and congrats on your wedding!!

    now i am worried..

Like with any other surgery there is always a chance of death (sorry don't mean to scare you but it's the the truth). Did the article say if these patients had the same doctor and if they had any other health issues that could have attributed to this? I am having my surgery in couple weeks in a hospital as and outpatient, since I live near the hospital. You should do a lot more research before getting the lap band. You should call your insurance company and find get the information from them. Ask them if you were to get the surgery done would it be done at a hospital or oupatient center. I know and from what I've read in a lot of posts is that it seems that the majority of people have had their surgery at a hospital. Do a lot more research. Attend seminars of people who have had the lapband done. I think this would easy your fears. Best of luck to you!!

    Pre-Op Tests

Hello, You will probably have to take to psychologist, dietician and do a sleep study. Depending on your insurance, you may have to talk to the dietician for six months. Good luck!

    Feeling Down

Hi Brat1024 - I'm sorry to hear that you regret it. It's ok to be nervous, after all you are having surgery. I know what you mean about starving and eating, boy do I like to eat. Being part of a Latino family, well it can be difficult because of all the great food. I think that will be my biggest challenge before getting the surgery. You should try going to a support group around your area for individuals who have had this type of surgery. Where I live, we have that, I have not had my surgery yet, but attending the meetings has really allowed me to get a better understanding of what I can expect. The staff at my doctor's office are great and the meetings with guest speakers are great also. We also have been allowed to contact past lap band individuals (with their consent of course) and they too have been great and very informative. You have the support of your family and friends and that is a beautiful thing. You will need the encouragement, love, and support from them before and most definetely after your sugery. You should schedule another surgery date when you are ready and try to attend a support meeting. I wish you nothing but the best and keep us posted as to what you decided to do.
  10. Thanks, I just need one more meeting with my doctor and I'll be having the lapband.

  11. Hi JessyM, I too am from Ventura County and saw your post. How are you doing with the lapband?

    2 More Days!

I'm very excited for you. I don't have my surgery until October. Any ways, being nervous and scared is normal, after all you are having surgery. You'll be fine. I too have been reading others post about complications people have had. I wish you the best of luck and I will pray that you have a safe and speedy recovery. Best of luck to you! Keep us posted.
  13. Don't worry, you probably gained some muscle. Muscle does weigh more than fat. You may be loosing inches and that's great! I know how you feel. When I workout I usually don't loose weight, but I do loose inches and that can be very frustrating at times, when you don't see the scale go down. Just keep working out.
  14. I agree with many of the posting here about how it's YOUR OWN personal decision. I told my mother and two sisters and that is it. I live with them, so it was only right, plus I know that they are very supportive. I don't plan on telling other people that I will be getting the lap band. I don't like sharing too much of my personal life with others. Best of luck on what you decide. Just know that you have this forum full of great people willing to help and share their own experiences.
  15. I switched doctors and then they sent my info to my insurance company and they approved me. Best of luck!
  16. Hello, Does anyone happen to know if the sleep study is covered by the insurance? I have to get one prior to my lap band procedure. I live in Southern California and I have Anthem Blue Cross. Thank you.
