Hi fellow Sleevers! I had surgery in September.. with Dr. Watkins- Cincinnati. I have lost 54 pounds so far (50 lbs lost by Jan)... but I've also been eating things that are certainly NOT diet... curse the local Starbucks... yes I have no will power against! Spring Break at an all inclusive resort did not help either (yes I had to try all the exotic drinks to get my money's worth) I have 25 lbs more to lose. I find that I can eat anything (though bubbly things like champagne- can only drink in small quantities). I'm sure I would be at a lower weight IF I actually followed the rules of no liquids as you eat etc.... I really feel like this was a great tool... I've been trying to lose weight for 13 years!- this is the ONLY thing that has worked for me. I am losing very slowly.... since Christmas... but it's always going down... I can definitely eat more than I did in the 1st 4 months.... but I get full faster and am happy NOT be be that different from everyone else... (PS... if I do drink Water... it keeps me from being hungry- Never had that before.)..... Wishing everyone happy weight loss!
  2. Greetings from Colorado! Just checking in! I had surgery with Dr. Watkins..... love-love-love my plication- only the best care by Dr. Watkins and his staff! I have lost 35 lbs. so far... (it's been about 2 months) it has definitely slowed down... but had a Fall break and gained 2 lbs... I have lost it- but it's no fun losing the same lbs. in a row- brings back bad memories! I noticed that if I eat a lot of carbs and less protein- I only lose 1-1.5 llbs in a week. If I stick to low carb I may lose up to 4 lbs in a week. If I eat mostly Protein and carbs- with exercise= I lose about 3 lbs... still learning how my body responds to everything! I have found that I can eat anything I did before, but just not as much! I hope everyone is loving the plication surgery- My mom says it is a miracle- (I happen to agree with her!)
  3. I am only 1 week out of getting sleeve plication, down 10 lbs this week and 10 lbs the week prior to surgery- waiting for that dreaded 3 week stall... anyway, what I've noticed in all the vertical sleeve forums, is that most people are basically doing a low-carb, high protein- Atkins' like diet. As such, you are probably in ketosis, (if you have a weird taste in your mouth- it's ketones being excreted - ANYWAY... I have lost countless weight doing the Atkins diet (problem was... I like my carbs Way too much - did eat huge quantities and never really felt full- could be because I was a preemie baby- barely 5 lbs and was on solid foods after the 1st week- ..... another topic... To start your weight loss, believe it or not... you may need more fat calories..... your body will go into starvation mode. Using full fat instead of light may jumpstart your weight loss again... What I have learned from many countless diets for the last 30 years..... if you eat carbs, you have to eat low calories/ low fat... if on low carb diet, you need your energy from fat calories and should not go low fat...- it will stall you.... I am not a nutritionist...just giving 30 years experience...
  4. I had surgery with Dr. Brad Watkins only 8 days ago! I lost 10 lbs 1 week prior and another 10 lbs this week. It's unbelievable to be down 20 lbs in 2 weeks! I've been over 220 lbs. for 10 years! (started this journey at 245) My clothes are already getting too big!- ps. I am not starving myself... I am on "soft foods" and today's menu included: breakfast- mushed boiled egg (yes I did put a little mayo in - usually on do this at Easter- but wow, it tasted great; protein drink, soup (lunch); protein water; salmon with some noodles, overly cooked little-green beans (still afraid to eat veggies)- will increase vegetable intake after the 3rd week-
